DONALD PITTMAN
Donald Elvin Pittman, 42, of Waynesburg, died Friday January 9, 2009.
Born Feb. 2, 1966, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Agnes Louise Elliott of Stanford and Donald Eugene Pittman of Lakeland, FL.
He was a mechanic.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Pittman; three sons, James Pittman and Donald Pittman of Danville, and McKenzie Pruitt of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Debbie Henry of Stanford and Abigail Pittman of Waynesburg; one brother, Tony Pittman of Stanford; three sisters, Evelyn Huff and Lisa Phelps, both of Stanford, and Angela Best; and two grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 12, at the Spurlin Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary King and Rev. Terry Holt officiating.
FRED PURVIS
Fred A. Purvis, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born June 21, 1922 in Salvisa, he was the son of the late James and Saphronia Purvis and was the husband of the late Dolly Purvis.
He was the former owner of Purvis Grocery which he operated for twenty-three years, worked at ATR in Danville and the Harrodsburg Gateway and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder.
Survivors include: one son, Fred Purvis, Jr. of Campbellsville; one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John David Lane officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jackie Taylor, Jeremy Sprowles, David Taylor and Leroy Patterson.
DAVE TAYLOR JR.
Dave Colson Taylor Jr., 79, Campbellsville, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center in Harrodsburg.
Born Oct. 21, 1929, in Bell County, Taylor was a retired farmer.
Survivors include: one daughter, JoAnn Garrett of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Steve Taylor Sr. of Birmingham, AL, and Gary Taylor of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Mrs. Chesney Hammack of Lexington, Mrs. Kelsie (Norman) McGohon of Elizabethtown and Norma Jean Kafoglis of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, James F. (Beverly) Taylor of Louisville; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Colson “D. C.” Sr. and Etta Sizemore Taylor, one son, Dave Colson Taylor III, and a brother, Charles Taylor.
The funeral service was held Thursday, January 8, at the Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, with burial in Highview Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Darren Gillespie officiated.
Pallbearers were Shannon, Timothy, Shawn, Zachary and Steve Taylor Jr. and Mike Kafoglis.
Bosley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
CORDELIA WRIGHT
Cordelia Wright, 96, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at Sayre Christian Village.
Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward Harrison and Laura Warner Moore and was the widow of Elza Wright.
She was a retired Parochial Elementary School teacher and member of Arlington Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Jerry (Judge Rebecca Overstreet) Wright; one grandson; two granddaughters; four great granddaughters and one niece.
The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington with Rev. Gordon Walls officiating. A private burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

VIRGINIA YEAST
Virginia Yeast, 94, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 31, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret Newby Lawson and was the widow of Hugh Yeast.
She was a retired Corning Glass employee and a lifelong member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Bronson (Nancy) Yeast of Mercer County; one daughter, Sherry Rayma of Frankfort; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marcus Arnold Lawson and William Lawson and two sisters, Velva Sanders and Elizabeth Lawson Rogers.
The funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shane Willhoite, Chris Scoggins, Harold Lawson, Bobby Newby, Vance Lawson, Frank Martin and Jackie Springate.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Billy Rogers, Jimmy Best and John “Bill” Sutter.

GARNETT CAREY
Garnett LeRoy Carey, 73, of Gravel Switch, died Monday, January 12, 2009, at University of Louisville Medical Center, Louisville.
Born May 13, 1935, in Mercer County, Carey was owner and operator of Carey Feed Company in Gravel Switch.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Tom P. and Kathleen Prather Carey; a sister, Joyce Carey.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen Whitlock Carey; two daughters, Kathy Carey of Lexington and Anita (John) Elliott of Burgin; two stepdaughters, Glenda (James) Cottrell of Gaithersburg, MD, and Kimberly Craig of Louisville; a stepson, Timothy Hafley of Cincinnati, OH; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Thursday, January 15, at Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, with burial in Haysville Cemetery, Gravel Switch. Rev. Gerald Hegwood officiated.
Pallbearers were Barry Whitis, Pat Hourigan, Matt Gorley, Cody Wren, Sterling Young and John Elliott.
Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.
CARLOS CUNNINGHAM
Carlos Ray Cunningham, 30, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Stanford, died Friday January 16, 2009.
Survivors include his: wife, Melinda Hines Cunningham of Mount Vernon; two sons, Corey Ray and Addison Huston Cunningham, both of Mount Vernon; four brothers, Otis and Thomas Cunningham, both of Harrodsburg, and Leroy Belcher and Jerry Cunningham, both of Hustonville; seven sisters, Lisa Cunningham and Elizabeth Smith, both of Harrodsburg, Mary Tinsley and Patricia Nichols, both of Stanford, Carol Dixon of Lancaster, Becky Wilson of Parksville and Ola Pendleton of Stanford; and nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday, January 20, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford by the Revs. Terry Holt and Gary King.
LOUISE FENSTER
Louise Fenster, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at the Oaklawn Nursing Home in Louisville.
She was the wife of Albert Fenster.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Paula (John) State and Sharon (Scott) Howard; one sister, Margaret Trimble; one brother, Frank (Betty) Gains and five grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at the Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home – Westport Road location. Burial was in the Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

EDITH GABHART
Edith Bowles Gabhart, 96, of Main Street, Mackville, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Home in Lebanon.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18, at the Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. Micah Carter, the church pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Peter Cemetery
at Mackville.

CARROL HUMES
Carrol Gene Humes, 69, of Moreland died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009.
Born Jan. 16, 1940 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Irvin and Stella Robinson Humes and was the husband of Evelyn Smith Humes.
He was a member of Junction City First Baptist Church, retired from ATR, and for many years worked with the Russell County Agape Prison Ministry.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Michael (Karen) Humes of Moreland and Dean (Margit) Humes of Germany; one brother, Osie Humes of Harrrodsburg; three sisters, Bonnie Humes of Danville, Dorothy Robertson of Harrodsburg and Emma (Curtis) Corn of Moreland and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Bishop, two brothers, Glenn and Howard Humes and by an infant grandson.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at the Junction City Baptist Church with Bro. Dale Denton officiating. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Raymond and James Humes, Glenn Ryan, Sammy Bishop, Curtis Davis and Brian Shaffer.
Honorary pallbearers are the Agape Prison Ministry Team.

MARY JUDGE
Mary Woodson Judge, 91, daughter of the former Woodson Jacobs and Julia Glover Jacobs, died Mon, January 19, 2009.
Mary was a member of the Lafayette Christian Church, Lexington where she served as Deacon for many years. She was a former member of Owingsville Women’s club and member of University of Kentucky Woman’s Club. She worked for many years in retail business, served as assistant clerk for Bath County Selective Service Board and served for thirteen years as hostess of Lincoln Foundation. She managed a farm in Montgomery County where she raised and sold strawberries.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bill Judge; a sister Dorothy Thomas, Frankfort; a niece, Ann French Thomas, Frankfort, nephew, Ken Woodson Thomas, Harrodsburg; two great nieces, Amy Thomas Miller, Harlan and Julie Ann Thomas, Florida.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 21, at the Lafayette Christian Church. Burial followed at Machpelah Cemetery, Mt. Sterling.
Pallbearers were former students of Bill and Mary Judge.
Honorary bearers were members of the Lafayette Christian Church.
MAE MARTIN
Mae Helen Dyehouse Martin, 88, of Crab Orchard, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1920 in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Nellie Brown Dyehouse and was the widow of Cecil Martin..
She was a homemaker, a retired Library Assistant at the Harvey Helm Memorial Library, a former pianist at the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, was former hostess at the William Whitley House State Park and a longtime member of the Crab Orchard P.T.A.
Survivors include: two sons, Donnie (Marza) Martin of Lancaster and David Randy (Lisa) Martin of Berea; one daughter, Pat Martin Godby of Harrodsburg; one sister, Sandra Smith of Stanford; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandson.
In addition to her husband & parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Libby Gilbert, a son-in-law, Jim Gilbert and a grandson, David Martin.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at the McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kaywood Morris officiating. Burial will be in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Harold Martin, Dwayne May, Joe Naylor and David, Devin and Jeff Hurt.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Vandiver, Walker Quarles, Jim Collier, Homer Hoskins, Ernest Combs, Bert McGohon and Wayne Price.
