CECIL FISTER
Cecil F. Fister, 90, retired registered nurse, widow of Julius Fister, died Saturday December 20, 2008.
Born in Mason Co., she was a daughter of the late Ben and Lula Helphenstine Ashley Ford.
She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church. Cecil had attended the University of Kentucky and the Good Samaritan School of Nursing. She was a member of the St. Leo Alter Society, was a charter member of the Woodford County B&PW, volunteer for the Woodford County Food Pantry and the family resource center, was a member of the Double Nickel Club and the Martha’s Ministries Club, had walked for 13 years for the March of Dimes, and had been an election officer for many years.
Survivors include: one son, Roddy F. Williams of Burgin; two grandchildren, Roddy (Kim) Williams II of Versailles, and Cyndi W. Gibson of Atlanta, GA, three great grandchildren, Jaye Williams, Amber Stone, and William Stone; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Fister of Georgetown, Rosa Lee Fister of Lexington; her step children, Julius Fister Jr. and family, Tom Fister and family, her adopted family, Duane and Lynn Price, and their son, Matthew (Dixie) Price.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Vivian F. Miller.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 23, at St. Leo Catholic Church in Versailles with Fr. Dan Noll officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville.
Pallbearers were Steve Barnett, Bill Henson, Paul DesRosiers, Ken Ward, Jim Birch, Don McCleese and Darrell Mason.
Honorary pallbearers were Peggy Barnett, Sandra Henson, Catherine McPherson, Betty DesRosiers, Beth Peavler, Coralyn Peters, Mary Owens Jackson, and Wanda Johnson.
Memorials are suggested to the Woodford County Food Pantry.
MODENA HORN
Modena Horn, 98, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 21, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd C. and Nona Moore Sims and was the widow of Frank Horn.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church and the Live Wires.
Survivors include two sisters, Edna McGee and Mary Elizabeth Hopewell, both of Cincinnati.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Lyda Belle, Beulah and Eulah Horn, a sister, Juanita Sims Huffman and a brother, J. C. Sims.
The funeral was held Monday, Dec. 22 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Don Reed, Arnold Moon and David Crow officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

ALMA ISON
Alma Ray Ison, 95, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Oct. 22, 1913 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Nelson Lee and Nannie Lee Royalty Sanders and was the widow of Louis Francis Ison.
She was a former teacher but specialized in genealogical research. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where she taught Primary Sunday School for 50 Years, National Society of DAR, Kentucky State Historical Society, and Harrodsburg Historical Society where she volunteered for 30 Years.
She compiled and published books containing historical records, the most recent being: Bible Records and Vital Statics published in 2008. She was named Pioneer Woman of Harrodsburg on her 85th Birthday and was recognized in June 1998 for her significant contribution toward historic preservation in Mercer County.
Survivors include: one daughter, Nancy Ellen Reahm of Grand Rapids, MI; one son, Louis "Charles" (Robin) Ison of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren; four great–grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nelson Cleo Sanders, Tom Horton, C.L. Horton, Lee Miller Dean, Jonathan Jenkins, Stewart Ison and Zach Ison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Cannada Jr., Douglas Brown and David Cannada
Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29 and prior to the service on Tuesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

VIVIAN LITTERAL
Vivian J. Litteral, 100, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at her residence.
Born Nov. 2, 1908 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late George Thomas and Louisa Katherine Pinkston Litteral.
She was a retired Nursing Assistant at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Mt. Freedom Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two sisters, Geneva B. Litteral and Beatrice L. Hourigan, both of Harrodsburg; one niece, Hilda Mae Pike of Lexington; one nephew, Donald Litteral of Cornishville and several great nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jamie Chesser officiating. Burial was in Grapevine Christian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Dale Hawthorne, Bryan Burns and Bro. Jamie Chesser.
Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
JEAN LOWE
Jean Price Lowe, 80, of Lexington, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at Country Place in Lexington.
Born March 11, 1928 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Bain and Emma Gray Gordon Davenport.
She was a retired South Central Bell telephone operator and a member of the Hunter Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jean (Gary) Buchanan of Lexington and one sister, Emma Katherine Davenport of Richmond, VA.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 in Spring Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church with Andy Wing and Stephanie Wing officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

SUSAN MORAN
Susan Gayle Rothwell Moran, 48, of Moreland died Thursday, December 18, 2008, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born March 27, 1960, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Louise Rothwell.
Survivors include: her husband, Darrell Moran of Moreland; a son, Gary Wayne (Amber) Rothwell of Moreland; a stepdaughter, Latasha Moran of Stanford; two brothers, Kenneth Wayne (Alma) Rothwell and Gary Eugene (Jean) Rothwell, both of Moreland; a half-sister, Robin Rothwell (Mike) Allison of Hustonville; and two grandchildren, Jayde and Dakota Rothwell.
Services were held Monday, December 22, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland by Bro. Stacy Wilson. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Rothwell, Kenneth Rothwell, Gary Wayne Rothwell, Jack Broom, and Cecil and Bobby Burger.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Muhammad Shahzad and the nursing staff at the Haggin Hospital.

LAURA PICKLESIMER
Laura Jane Cooper Picklesimer, 82, widow of Dewey C. Picklesimer, died peacefully Wed, December 17, 2008 at the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, with her family surrounding her.
Born February 25, 1926 in Kinniconick, KY, Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Annie Fralie Cooper.
During World War II, she worked on planes at Wright-Patterson Air-Force Base in Dayton, OH before becoming a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Bryan Station Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her sister, Evalina Hutchison of Xenia, OH; her children, Anita Picklesimer Rawls, Cary, NC, Rita Picklesimer, Lexington, Gordon Dean Picklesimer, Anchorage, AK and Angela Jane (Michael) Casini, Blue Springs, MO; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her son, Norman Eugene Picklesimer, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Regina) Abbott of Vanceburg, KY, Mrs. Ernest (Birdie) Cook of North Ridgeville, OH; and a brother, Charles Cooper of Springfield, OH.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday December 20, 2008 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Main Street, Lexington, by Rev. Al Gormley. Burial was Monday, December 22, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery
on Nicholasville Road.
ERNEST THRO
Ernest Guernsey Thro, 73, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008.
He spent more than 30 years as a teacher, guidance counselor, senior administrator and Associate Superintendent with the Hardin County Schools. In addition, he was an adjunct professor of education for Western Kentucky University and Elizabethtown Community College. Following his retirement from the Hardin County Schools in 1995, he worked as a volunteer at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.
He was born on May 30, 1935 in New Albany, IN to Margaret Guernsey Thro and Eugene Thro. He graduated from Jeffersonville, Indiana High School and Indiana University. After graduate work at both the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville, he completed his doctorate in education at Ball State University in 1971.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan Young Thro of Elizabethtown; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Julie Thro of Yorktown, VA; three grandchildren, Sandra, Swill and Noah Edwards-Thro of Yorktown, VA; an older brother, Eugene Thro of New Albany, IN and his beloved dog. Beau.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Brown Funeral Home. The family received visitation from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

MARY WAINSCOTT
Mary Elizabeth Brock Wainscott, 77 of Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, December 21, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
She was born December 25, 1930 to the late Rose Mefford and John Brock.
Mrs. Wainscott was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed playing tennis.
She is survived by: two sons, Joe (Sherry) Wainscott and Jeff (Barbara) Wainscott, both of Lawrenceburg; a granddaughter, Jennifer Renee Wainscott of Lawrenceburg; and one brother, John (Norma) Brock of Harrodsburg.
Mrs. Wainscott was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Wainscott, and a sister, Rosemarie Beck.
Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, December 23, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Charles Savarimuthu officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Mefford, Bobby Mefford, John Brock, Mark Brock, Chad Fyffe, and Joe Wainscott.

DIANA BOGAN
Diana Bogan, 60, of Harrodsburg, wife of Robert Lee Bogan, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born November 24, 1948 in New Mexico, she was the daughter of Leonard J. and the late Betty Hardy.
Survivors include: her husband, Robert Lee Bogan; one son, Richard Lee Bogan of AK; one brother, Thomas Hardy of OR.
She was predeceased by one son, Daniel Bogan.
There will be no formal services at this time.
STANLEY BOYD
Stanley Alfred Boyd, 83, of Frankfort, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort.
Born Feb. 13, 1925 in Junction City, he was the son of the late Alfred Boyd and Lola Phillips Boyd Byrd and was the husband of Hilma Frances Stroud Boyd.
He was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Danville Fire Department, was the Fire Chief for the Harrodsburg Fire Department, the Boyle County Fire Commissioner, the Kentucky State Fire Marshall, the President of Kentucky Fireman’s Association, an insurance inspector for Kentucky State Government and an instructor state wide for firefighters.
Survivors include: one daughter, Rebecca Boyd, of Lexington; one brother, James W. Boyd of Lawrenceburg and one half brother, C. Wayne Byrd of Harrodsburg.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Boyd.
The funeral was held on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at the Harrod Brothers Funeral Home in Frankfort with Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial was at Frankfort Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Byrd, Wayne Byrd, Roger Pratt, Tim Troxell, Sam Carr and Barry Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Irvine and James W. Boyd.
