JUDY SPRINGATE

Judy C. Springate, 60, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

She was born April 2, 1948 in Harrodsburg, the daughter of the late Johnie and Venetta Bottoms Springate.

She is survived by three children, Venetta M. Mullins, Anthony S. Bell, and Damien H. Mullins.

Services will be planned at a later date.

Care Cremation Service, Lexington, in charge of arrangements.

GENEVA STAKELIN

Geneva Cannon Stakelin, 88, widow of Herman A. Stakelin, died at the Pine Meadows Health Center on October 17, 2008.

She was born February 26, 1920 in Mercer County, and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Bertie Emma Leonard Cannon.

She was a homemaker and member of the Southern Hills United Methodist Church.

She is survived by: one daughter, Pamela (Rick) Fernand, Lexington; two grandsons, Tony and T. J. Fernand, Lexington. She is also survived by one sister, Lorraine Kurtz, Lexington, and one brother, Forrest Cannon, Harrodsburg.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Charles, Leo, and Andrew Cannon, and three sisters, Martina Nooe, Violet Meredith and Hazel Arnold.

Funeral service were held Tuesday, October 21, at the Milward Funeral Home - Southland with burial at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

BONNIE TRIMBLE

Bonnie Robinson Trimble, 72, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at her residence in Louisville.

Born March 7, 1936 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Haskell and Hattie Puckett Robinson and was the widow of Forrest Trimble.

She was a unit secretary for St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and attended Ralph Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville.

Survivors include: three daughters, Vickie Denham and Carolyn (Brian) Smith of Louisville and Beverly Trimble of Bleweyville; three sons, Michael (Lisa) Trimble, William Trimble and David (Pamela) Trimble, all of Louisville; two sisters, Nellie Holderman of Mercer County and Mae (Michael) Birch of Athens, GA; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Newland.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Steve Long officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Drew Schneid, Josh Starns, Jason Phillips, Tony Herron, James Sparks and Jason Delarosa.

MARY WELDON

Mary Ellen Robinson Weldon, 74, of Okolona, formerly of Mercer County, died Friday Oct. 17, 2008 at her home.

Born Sept. 1, 1934, she was the daughter of Herbert Robinson and Lottie Sallee Robinson and was the wife of Ezra C. Weldon.

She was a member of Parkland Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Vickie Sue Catlett and Rita Kaye Higdon; two sons, Rory C. and Ronald D. Weldon; one brother, J.T. Robinson; one sister, Edna Kays; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home in Okolona. Burial was in Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery in Mercer County.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

VIRGINIA YEAGER

Virginia Noel Lay Yeager, 89, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born May 18, 1919 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin G. and Rebecca Graham Lay and was the widow of Orbrey "Jake" Yeager.

She was a Mercer County School System employee and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Fairview Homemaker Club and the Mercer Senior Citizens.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Joyce Yeager Carlton of Lawrenceburg; one son, Garnie A. Yeager of Lawrenceburg, two sisters, Geneva Sanders and Shirleen (Tommy) Yates , both of Harrodsburg; one brother, John P. Lay of Danville; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Yeager and a sister, Jewell Boswell.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Bethel Baptist Church with Raymond Long, John D. Lay and Brad King officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Bible Fund or Bethel Baptist Church.

THOMAS BARLOW

Thomas W. Barlow, 81, of Stanford, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Dec. 28, 1926 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late George W. and Dovie Ethel Coontz Barlow and was the husband of Frankie Feltcher Barlow.

He was an Army Veteran, the owner and operator of Lincoln Lumber Company, the former manager of Boyle Lumber and was a member of the Stanford Baptist Church where he was the organist and past treasurer.

In additon to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Thomas W. (Mary) Barlow of Harrodsburg and Mike Barlow of Danville; one daughter, Becky Carrier of Stanford; two sisters, Marie Riggles of Junction City and Barbara Adams of Nicholasville; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Barlow.

The funeral was held Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 at the Stanford Baptist Church with Rev. Brad Curry and Max Hester officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Fred Reichenbach, Dr. Larry Oliver, Arnold Stogsdill, Johnny Jordan, Rodney Munford and Danny Jewell.

Honorary pallbearers were Conword Abbott, Dr. Thomas Baeker, Dr. John Hignight, Dr. Daniel Moran, Dr. John Lacy and the staff of Commonwealth Cancer Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stanford baptist Church renovation account of the American Cancer Society.

Spurlin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

JOSEPH BEATTY

Joseph Wayne Beatty, 63, died Tuesday October 21, 2008 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born in Louisville, he was the son of the late Evelyn Murphy Beatty and Joseph Aaron Beatty.

Mr. Beatty graduated from Millersburg military Institute and Western Kentucky University with a B.A. in Recreation Studies. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon men's fraternity, the NRA, Tenure and Kentucky Public Retirees. He was a former principal and teacher at Montery School in Owen County. He loved the outdoors, skeet shooting, American Indian history and running.

Survivors include: his wife, Cheri Beatty; one daughter, Shawnee (Buddy) Bennett of Frankfort; one son, Cheyenne (Rae Gina) Beatty of Owenton; stepsons, Randy (Vicky) Green, Rob Green and Tommy Green of Elizabethtown; one sister, Beverly (Ron) Worley of Shelbyville; a stepsister, Lisa Hart of Harrodsburg; stepbrothers Paul (Angie) Beatty of Harrodsburg and Tom Brooks Beatty of Nicholasville; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday, October 26, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort. A celebration of life service followed at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes. Association or Hospice in his memory

DEBBIE BURTON

Debbie Sue Burton, 48, of Danville, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born March 5, 1960 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Neil and Martha Devine Chambers.

She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class.

Survivors include: two daughters, Delana (Sid) Vigil of Edgewood, NM and Bethany Sue Cornett of Lexington; two sisters, Leona (Edward) Royalty-Berg of Harrodsburg and Vicki C. Devine of Danville; five grandchildren and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Martin Coyle.

An Appreciation of Life service was held Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Steve James and Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barney Allen, Dennis Allen, Larry Devin, Keith Chambers, William Sparks, Edward Berg and Jerry Royalty.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Danville/Boyle County Humane Society.

FRANCES CALDWELL

Frances Rankin Evans Caldwell, 91, formerly of Larrimore Lane, Danville, died October 21, 2008.

She was the widow of Welsh Evans and Alvis “Hop” Caldwell. Born June 25, 1917 in Stanford, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Lee and Eva Alice Chrisman Rankin.

She was retired from Cricketeer and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one brother, Clarence Lee (Ethel) Rankin of Stanford, one sister Lucille Kirkpatrick of Moreland, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, George and Raymond Rankin and sisters, Elizabeth Greer, Margaret Edwards and Mildred Hester.

A graveside service was held Friday, October 24, at 3:30 pm at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Quentin Scholtz.

SAWYER CURRENS

Sawyer Lee Currens, infant, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington.

He was the son of Laura Lee Currens and Michael Ryan.

In addition to his mother and father, survivors include: grandparents, Barry and Cheryl Currens of Harrodsburg; great grandparents, David and Dottie Sims of Burgin and Curtis and Sonia Currens of Salvisa; one aunt, Kasey (Aaron) Satterly of Harrodsburg and two cousins, Jada and Izaiah Satterly.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at the Burgin Memorial Gardens with Greg Warren officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Carpenter’s Christian Church Children Ministry, 1340 US 127 By-pass, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

ANDREW DEVINE

Andrew Marshall Devine, 20, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 in Mercer County.

Born March 25, 1988, in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Angie Egbert Devine of Harrodsburg and the late Kenneth Devine.

He was an electrician for Horn Electric and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: one sister, Crystal Lynn Devine of Harrodsburg: one brother, Johnathan Wayne Devine of Harrodsburg; maternal grandmother , Shirley Egbert; paternal grandparents, William B. and Almeda Devine of Harrodsburg and Joyce Hill of Danville; one nephew, Matthew Wayne Devine and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Derek Baker officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Griffieth, Robbie Hughes, James Hammack, Eric Releford, Nick Raley and Michael Scull.

Honorary pallbearers were James Ray Griffieth, Steve Sims, Kyle Butler and Wayne Sexton
