JEFFREY MAYES
Jeffrey A. Mayes, 46, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at his residence in Piedmont, AL.
Born Aug. 29, 1961, he was the son of the late Glave and Grace Sharp Mayes and was the husband of Carol Belinda Motes.
He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School and had attended Morehead State University. He was associated with the Junior League Horse Show in Lexington for a number of years. He was an auctioneer, a member of Pioneer Baptist Church and attended Dailey Street Baptist Church in Piedmont, AL.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Will Mayes of Tennessee; one step son, Gary Murphy; two step daughters, Christal Murphy and Jonie Murphy; paternal grandmother, Loraine S. Mayes of Harrodsburg; one aunt, Nancy Jenkins of Harrodsburg; one uncle, Bo Sharp of Lexington; eleven step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and four cousins.
The funeral was held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Caleb Penwell officiating. Interment was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Russell Jenkins, Lonnie Jenkins, Jim Davis, Bo Sharp, Barry Sharp, Lonnie Campbell and Milward Dedman.
ARTHUR MCDONALD
Arthur Lee McDonald, 76, of Frankfort, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Born in Franklin County on March 6, 1932, he was the son of the late Albert Nicholas McDonald and Cora Belle Lewis McDonald.
He was a retired farmer and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Antioch Church of Christ.
Surviving are: his wife, Mary Lee Newberry McDonald, Frankfort; three sons, Wade McDonald, Frankfort, Wyatt McDonald, Owen County, and Wayne McDonald, Frankfort; a step-son, Danny Massie II, IN; three daughters, Natalie Culp, Melissa Willard, and Nina Adams, all of Frankfort; a step-daughter, Anna Marie Lawson, Frankfort; one brother, Mike McDonald, Frankfort; four sisters, Shirley Robinson, Harrodsburg, Hallie Clark, Maddie Tate and Kathy Taylor, all of Frankfort; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Harry McDonald and Leon McDonald, and five sisters, Mary Ruth Shields, Anna Dixon, Sarah Hall, Thelma LeMay and Minnie Jones.
Services were conducted from the graveside at Antioch Cemetery
Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Officiating the services was Tony Watkins.
Pallbearers were Josh McDonald, Colin McDonald, Shannon McDonald, Michael Cummins, Wayne McDonald, Wade McDonald, Jamie Rogers and Brandon Willard.
Honorary bearers were Eddie Toppis and David Mitchell.
military Honors will be observed at the graveside by the V.F.W. Post 4075.
ELSIE RUSH
Elsie Rush, 85, of Piedmont, AL died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL.
Born Feb. 27, 1923 in Hellier, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Sarah Wallace and was the widow of Earl E. Rush.
She lived most of her life in Kentucky and New Jersey. She had been a Piedmont resident for the past five years. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include: one daughter, Judy R. (Gary) Black of Piedmont, AL; two sons, Barry Phillips of Hightstown, NJ and Dennis (Cathy) Rush of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17 at Highland Memorial Park in Knoxville, TN with the Rev. Gary Black officiating.

GLADYS RUSSELL
Gladys M. Kurtz Russell, 89 of Danville, died April 9, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Nov. 18, 1918 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Edith Daley Kurtz and was the widow of Marcus M. Russell.
She was a homemaker, a member of McCormick Christian Church and attended First Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Nathan C. (Lynda) Russell of Junction City; two daughters, Anna Russell (Guy) Ingram of Danville and Linda Russell (Rick) Shannon of Lawrenceburg; one brother, Arthur J. Kurtz of Hermitage, TN; two sisters, Pauline Tucker of Greensfork, IN and Rebecca Smithmeyer of New Paris, OH; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Stith Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Crow officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were David Dennis, Sonny Sizemore, Brian Shannon, J. Mark Russell, Marlin Sparks, Jerry Rankin, Harold Logue, Jeffrey Cooper, Melvin Shannon and Danny Strevels.
Honorary pallbearers were Elders of the Westend Church of Christ, Dr. F. Hendrickson and Dr. T. Muhammad.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Gideon’s International.
Stith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
JOSEPHINE SCOTT
Josephine S. Scott, 89, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Mayfair Manor in Lexington.
Born June 29, 1918 in Muhlenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Lindsey and Tevis Bell Hall Spurlin and was the widow of Ezra Scott.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where she was an active volunteer for many years.
Survivors include: two daughters, Hilda Mittwede of Port Saint Lucie, FL and Dr. Nancy L. Scott of Lexington; one son, Donald R. Scott of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by seven brothers and two sisters.
The funeral was held Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Robert DeFoor and John Bruce officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph Lyons, Mark Willmott, Curt Willmott, Michael Keller, Joel Scott and David Baker.

EDITH SHADOAN
Edith May Shadoan 86, of Danville, formerly of Liberty, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born November 26, 1921 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Clara King Cochran. She was the widow of Arthur P. Shadoan.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and also attended Burgin Church of God. She was a homemaker and a former nurse’s aide. Edith was also known for her beautiful crocheting and needlepoint.
Survivors include: three brothers, Roger Cochran of Hustonville, Monroe and Bill Cochran, both of Carmel, IN; two sisters, Vina Bowling of Danville and Josephine Monroe of Madison, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Lester Cochran, and one sister, Kathrine Clifton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville, with Bishop Sam Irvin officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
SUSAN STANIFER
Susan Cogar Renfro Stanifer, 96, passed away Wednesday April 9, 2008 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
She was a native of Harrodsburg, and the daughter of the late Charles and Lottie Sacker Renfro. She was the widow of the late Dr. Ray Stanifer DDS.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond.
Survivors include: one son, Robert R. Stanifer of Versailles; one daughter, Patty Parks of Lilburn, GA; five grandchildren, Kenneth, Charles, Robert and Ronald Parks of GA and Mary McKenna of Lexington; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.
Graveside services were held Thursday, April 10, in the Richmond Cemetery
with Bill Fort officiating.
The Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond handled the services.
EARL ADAMS
Earl Adams, 67, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at his home.
Born June 20, 1940 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Ike and Lucille Clarkston Adams and was the husband of Diana L. Wheeler Adams.
He was an owner and operator of Jade Construction excavation and paving company.
Survivors include: two daughters, Kristina B. Lynn Adams of Harrodsburg and Anita J. Beasley of Lawrenceburg; one son, Isaac Adams of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Annie Webb of Tennessee, Gladys Adams of Ashland and Helen Wells of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Joe Adams of Harrodsburg and Robert Adams of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Adams.
The funeral was held Friday, April 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Jody Coontz officiating.
EMMA CHEATHAM
Emma Cheatham, 87, Bardstown, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Windsor Gardens Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Washington County and was a self-employed caregiver.
She was preceded in death by her parents Madge and Gilbert Bottom; and five brothers, Cecil Bottom, Thurman Bottom, Jim Bottom, Loraine Bottom and Wilson Bottom.
Survivors include: one son, Dan Cheatham, Cox’s Creek; one daughter, Pat Cecil, Bardstown; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Bresenhen, Miami, OK., and Brenda Barr, Mount Washington ; four brothers, Leon Bottom, Lawrenceburg, Ernest Bottom, Tennessee, Madison Bottom, Mackville, and Carrol Dean Bottom, Malta, IL.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at Barlow Funeral Home, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Rev. Todd Benner will officiate.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be made to Bardstown United Methodist Church Second Campus Tree Fund.
Barlow Funeral Home, Bardstown, is in charge of arrangements.
WILLIAM GOODMAN
William T. Goodman, 90, died Friday, April 11, 2008.
Born Nov. 29, 1918, he was the son of Emma Dorothy and James R. Goodman and the widower of Lou Ella Goodman.
He was a member of Burgin Baptist Church and a veteran of WWII.
Survivors include: four daughters, Anne (Robert) Morton, Billie J. Underwood, Marsha G. Fields, Glenda (James) Clay Sr.; one aunt, Ruth Woods; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth O. Strickland and a granddaughter, Vonda G. Kavanaugh.
The funeral was held Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the O. L. Hughes & Sons Mortuary. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
MARY GOODPASTER
Mary L. Houp Goodpaster, 84, of Frankfort, died Monday, April 21, 2008 at her residence.
Born Oct. 3, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John P. Houp and Mary F. Robinson Houp Chumley and was the wife of James R. Goodpaster.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Jenny (George) Heady of Frankfort; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Sleet A. Chumley, a daughter, Patricia S. Allen Goodpaster and a son, James K. Goodpaster.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel with Bro. Roger Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Heady, Richard L. Goodpaster, Gary L. Goodpaster, Mark Mills, David Duplessis and Terry Comer.
Honorary pallbearers will be James E. Goodpaster, Greg Goodpaster, Leonard Goodpaster Jr. and Bobby Roach.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel in Frankfort from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Christian Assembly Church in Frankfort.
