HAZEL TURNER
Hazel L. "Pitsy" Turner, 79, widow of Nalis Turner, Jr., died Thursday, April 3, 2008.
Born in Madison County, she was a member of the Versailles Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sugar (Frank) Willey, Kathy (Bruce) Sparrow, both of Versailles; five grandchildren, Susan Hartgrave of FL, Matt T. (Maria) Willey of Versailles, Gretchen (Jon) Copley of Lexington, Jason Willey of Atlanta, Allison Sparrow of Lexington; a sister, Marie Kenley of Indianapolis, IN; and a brother, James William McDaniel of Salvisa.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Homer McDaniel Jr.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 5, at the Versailles Presbyterian Church with Rev. Melissa Sevier officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matt Willey, Jason Willey, John Copley, Randall Bohannon, Ed Quinn, Jim Arnold and Jeff Moore.

VIOLET ADAMS
1911-2008
Washington , D.C. – Violet Nichols Adams, 97, of Washington , D.C., died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at her home.
Born Feb. 3, 1911 in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Andrew and Mary Ellen Terhune Nichols, and was the former wife of William Mason Adams of Richmond. She was a member of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington , D.C., and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivor include two nieces, Frances Nichols (Jimmy) Holiday of Harrodsburg and Carolyn S. Nichols of Lexington; three great-nephews, Graham Calvin Nevius, William Chatham (Shannon) Nevius and John William (Donna) Holiday, all of Harrodsburg; four great-nieces, Leslee Carolyn (Vincent) Magliulo and Brady Catherine Nevius, both of Las Vega, NV, Patrician Ellen (William) Bowen of Stanton and Laila Carey Holiday of Springfield; and several cousins.
She was preceded n death by a brother, Graham Minor Nichols, formerly of Harrodsburg; and a sister, Nancy Ellen Nichols, Decker, formerly of Prospect.
A private memorial service was held March 25 at Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church with Dr. Arthur J. DeYoung officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

GEORGE ALLEN
George Perry Allen, Ph.D., 66, died April 6, 2008.
He was born in Frankfort December 16, 1941 to George Lewis and Evelyn Perry Allen of Harrodsburg.
He is survived by: two daughters, Lindsay Taylor Allen (Steven) Joseph, MPH, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Courtenay Anne Allen, Lexington; a grandson, Sayre Reed Joseph, also of Calgary; five siblings: Joyce Ann Schrader, Frankfort; James Vertner (Anne) Allen, MD, Overland Park, KS; Glenda Faye (George) Ross, Lexington; David Lewis (Bonnie) Allen, Paris, and Gary Thomas (Sara) Allen, Albuquerque, NM; and former wife, Stephanie Nicely Allen Aken.
He attended Mercer County High School, where he graduated as valedictorian in 1959. He graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown College in 1963. After working in a veterinary science lab at the University of Kentucky, he was inspired to earn the first Ph.D. degree awarded from that department in 1975. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, supported by grants from the American Cancer Society and the Grayson Foundation, he returned to UK as an assistant professor in the Veterinary Science Dept., where he continued his research in the area of molecular biology of equine herpesvirus diseases and was later promoted to full professor in 1987. He authored/co-authored more than 85 scholarly articles, served on UK's graduate faculty, and arguably became one of the world's foremost experts on equine rhinopneumonitis.

JOHN BROWN
John D. Brown, 87, of Burgin, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the home of his daughter in Harrodsburg.
Born Aug. 11, 1920 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Rachel Denny Brown and was the widower of Georgia Hager Brown.
He was member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and former member of the Burgin Baptist where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years, and was currently attending Carpenter’s Christian Church.
He served during World War II in the Army. He was former Mayor of Burgin, had served on Burgin Board of Trustees, former Burgin Fire Chief, was a former president of Central Kentucky Fireman’s Association, served as elections officer for several years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 777 F & AM, Oleika Shrine Temple.
He was a former president and secretary of Burgin Lion’s Club. He owned and operated Burgin Block Works for over 23 years and Brown Ceramics for 35 years.
Survivors include: one daughter, Bonnie Peavler of Harrodsburg; one son, Donald B. Brown of Burgin; five grandchildren, John Peavler, Amy Peavler, Jan Nixon, Donna Brown and Lynda Brown and ten great grandchildren.
The funeral was held Wednesday, April 16 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Greg Warren officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Burgin Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were John B. Peavler, Logan and Josh Woods, Daniel Sims, Clay and Casey Westerfield and George Hensley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

April 16, 2008.

Zenah Teater III served as bugler.
Army representatives from Fort Knox were SSG Michael J. Sneed and SSG Johnathan C. Roe.
DAVID DRISCOLL
David L. Driscoll, 56, of Salvisa, died Friday, April 11, 2008 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.
Born June 21, 1951 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Catherine Phillips and William H. Driscoll and was the husband of Paula M. Riley Driscoll.
He was a self employed farmer, truck driver and woodworker. He was a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church, a 1969 graduate of Mercer County High School and a former member of the Kentucky National Guard.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, David C. Driscoll; one daughter, Sarah E. Driscoll; one brother, William “Billy” (Agnes) Driscoll of Salvisa; two sisters, Sue Freeman and Carolyn Blakemore, both of Lawrenceburg; two grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Jason Clark and Bro. Johnny Hockersmith officiating. Burial was in Sand Springs Cemetery
in Anderson County.
Pallbearers were Daniel, Keith, and Guy Driscoll, Chris and Steven Freeman and Bobby Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were Cathy Freeman, Lisa Deaton, Anthony Lathrem, Jeff Deaton, Tracie Deaton, Jessica Driscoll, Teresa Morris, Heather Reilly, Shay Driscoll and John Alex Caton.

WILLIAM GOODMAN
William T. Goodman, 90, widower of Lou Ella Goodman, died Friday, April 11, 2008.
Born November 29, 1918 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Emma Dorothy and James R. Goodman.
He was an auto mechanic and a member of Burgin Baptist Church and a veteran of WWII.
Survivors include: four daughters, Anne (Robert) Morton, Billie J. Underwood, Marsha G. Fields and Glenda (James) Clay Sr.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth O. Strickland and granddaughter, Vonda G. Kavanaugh.
Services will be held at noon Thursday, April 17, at the O. L. Hughes & Sons Mortuary in Lexington. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 11a.m.
CHESTER JARBOE
Chester Ray Jarboe, 79 of Count Fleet Circle, Danville died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Born July 10, 1928 in Marion County he was the son of the late Cora Frances Wright and James Henry Jarboe, Sr.
He was the owner of Jarboe’s Wheel Alignment, a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Chester was an avid NASCAR fan and attended the Daytona 500 for 25 years. He was a fan of UK Basketball and delivered the mail at EMRMC for the hospital auxiliary.
He was predeceased by Frances Sexton Jarboe, his previous wife, two brothers, James Henry Jarboe, Jr. and William Donald Jarboe, Sr. and three sisters, Christine Crews, Mona Mae Peavey and Deloris Jean Mattingly.
Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Montgomery Naylor Jarboe, Danville; one daughter, Mary Susan Simpson of Crescent Springs; two step-daughters, Tara Naylor (Robin) Short of Harrodsburg and Tina Naylor (James) Bradley of Crestwood; a sister, Mary Margaret (Ray) Smothers; and five grandchildren, Zakary Naylor Pruitt, Kaycee Ann Short, Jonah Isaac Short, Kara Elizabeth Bradley and Kaitlyn Nicole Bradley.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Martin and Rev. Doug Wesley. Burial will follow in Elk Spring Cemetery, Monticello, Ky.
Active pallbearers will be Jim Key, Eugene Wilson, Sam Beck, Archie Coffman, R.C. Greene, Albert Cooper, Pat Overstreet and Jimmie Lair.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Bowling, James Lawson, Dr. R. Finley Hendrickson, Dr. Tom Johnson and his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m., Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, The Parkinson’s Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
JANE JOHNSON
Jane Haydon Johnson, wife of the late Ralph Johnson, died Thursday April 10, 2008 at her residence.
Born in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Amy Strange Haydon.
Mrs. Johnson was a retired teacher having taught in the Woodford County school system for 42 years. She was a lifetime member of Clover Bottom Baptist Church, a member of the Troy Homemakers Club, D.A.R., Woodford Historical Society, 4-H Leader, member of the Retired Teachers Association, a Kentucky Colonel and was instrumental in getting telephone service to southern Woodford County.
She is survived by: one daughter, Pamela H. Johnson; one son, Charles Scott (Nora M.) Johnson, both of Versailles; one brother, Charles Haydon of Harrodsburg; two grandsons, Joe Pat and Scott Johnson; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday April 12, at the Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, with Rev. Don Reed and Rev. Terry Tench officiating. Burial was Versailles Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Scott Johnson, Joe Pat Johnson, Joey Johnson, Joe Haydon, Jim LeMaster and Mike Turner.
Memorials are suggested to Clover Bottom Baptist Church Building Fund.
MARSHA KIRKPARTRICK
Marsha Lynn Kirkpatrick, 45, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Born April 27, 1962 in McKee, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nancy Flannery and was the wife of C. H. Kirkpatrick.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Benton Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: three daughters, Jenny L. Kirkpatrick, Nancy M. Morris Kirkpatrick and Connie L. Kirkpatrick; two sons, Phillip D. Kirkpatrick and William E. Kirkpatrick; 10 sisters, Violet J. (Harold) Brandenburg, Alene Flannery, Joyce Flannery, Barbara S. Miller, Irene (Robert) McKinney, Rita F. (Jim) Porter, Hilda Kirkpatrick, Loreen (Billy) Marrow, Coreen Ethington and Diane Gibson; two brothers, Cletus (Wanda) Flannery and Monroe Flannery and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Tim Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Family Cemetery
- Kirkpatrick Farm in Harrodsburg.
Pallbearers are C.H. Kirkpatrick, Sac Hume, Alvin Buck, Alpha Bugg, Phillip Kirkpatrick, Harvey Hines and Byron McDonald.
Visitation Wednesday, April 16 after 5 p.m. and Thursday prior to Service at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
