SHIRLEY KEEBORTZ

Shirley Ann Keebortz, 70, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Richmond Health and Rehabilitation-Madison in Richmond.

Born March 26, 1937 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Matilda Dennis Keebortz.

She served as First Lieutenant in the Philippines for the United States Air Force, attended the University of Kentucky and was a graduate of the Good Samaritan School of Nursing. She was a retired James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Registered Nurse and lectured at the UK College of Nursing.

Survivors include: one brother, Eulice (Geraldine) Keebortz of Lexington and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Joseph William “Buddy” and Walter Keebortz.

The funeral was held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Wilmore Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

EDNA SUTTON

Edna Mae Long Sutton, 91, of Lancaster died Monday, March 24, 2008 at her residence.

Born June 28, 1916 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Ott and Eula Prewitt Long and was the widow of Oneal Sutton.

She was a member of New Antioch Christian Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Ronald (Connie) Sutton and Dwain (Connie) Sutton, both of Lancaster; one daughter, Winifred Jeanetta (Virgil) Hall of Lancaster; one brother, Bobby (Shelby) Long of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Francis Hayden of Harrodsburg and Dora (Boone) Wells of Lexington; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald, three brothers, Leo, Oneal and Cecil Long and two sisters, Reba Hall and Ruth Surber.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008 at Ramsey Funeral Home with Rev. Val McCord officiating. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wayne and Mike Sutton, Roger Hall, Ben Thomas, Steve Walton and Brian Tuggle.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Ramsey Funeral Home

Ramsey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

LULA TAYLOR

Lula B. Taylor, 86, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 16, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late A. H. and Zora Hendren Norton and was the widow of Lawrence Edward Taylor.

She was a member of the Joseph Chapel Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the W.S.C.S, and Young People’s Sponsor for many years.

Survivors include: one daughter, Jackie Hilbert of Harrodsburg; three sons, Larry Ray Taylor and Floyd Douglas Taylor, both of Harrodsburg and William Edward Taylor of Versailles; one brother, Elwood Norton of Harrodsburg; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, March 24 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kehl Hilbert, Patrick Hilbert, Scott Taylor, Chad Taylor, Eric Taylor and Lawrance Ray Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers were Boyd Long, Roger Long, Glen Norton, Dennis Norton, Jerry Norton, Dr. Mohammad Shahzad, Dr. Paul Deluca and Jess Spaulding.

Memorial contributions may be made to Joseph Chapel Methodist Church

CASH WHITE

Cash White , 76, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Jan. 10, 1932 in Jessamine County, he was the son of the late Frank and Ada Conner White and was the husband of Irene Baker White .

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a self employed fence builder and was a member of the Bohon Road Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and R.A. Leader.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Robert (Melva) White of Harrodsburg and Tony (Vickie) White of Lawrenceburg; one daughter, Brenda (Leslie) Taylor of Harrodsburg; one brother, Joe (Alice) White of Mercer County; two sisters, Dorothy Bugg of Danville and Anna White of Mitchellsburg; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Cash White , a grandson, Robert Evann White , one granddaughter, Robin Michelle White and nine brothers and sisters.

The funeral was held Sunday, March 23, 2008 at the Bohon Road Baptist Church with Bro. Ken Calia officiating. Burial with military Honors was in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adam White , Jimmy Cash White , Sarah Hahn, Amy White , Brooke Worthington, Rebekah Eldridge, Margaret White and Steve Pittman.

Honorary pallbearers were Eva Sanford, Bell White , Allie White , Logan White , Katie White , Devann White , Austin White , Dalton Hahn, Madison Hahn, Jeff Sanford, Dustin Sanford, Emily Worthington, Noah Worthington, Kayleigh White , Robert Evann White , Hunter White and Kassie Sanford.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

VIOLET ADAMS

Violet Nichols Adams, 97, of Washington , D.C., died March 1, 2008 at her home.

Born Feb. 3, 1911, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Andrew Nichols and Mary Ellen Terhune Nichols and was the former wife of William Mason Adams of Richmond.

She was a member of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington , D.C. and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include: two nieces, Frances Nichols (Jimmy) Holiday of Harrodsburg and Carolyn S. Nichols of Lexington; three great nephews, Graham Calvin Nevius, William Chatham (Shannon) Nevius and John William (Donna) Holiday, all of Harrodsburg; four great nieces, Leslee Carolyn (Vincent) Magliulo and Brady Catherine Nevius of Las Vegas, NV and Patricia Ellen (William) Bowen of Stanton and Laila Carey Holiday of Springfield and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Graham Minor Nichols of Harrodsburg and one sister, Nancy Ellen Nichols Decker of Prospect.

A private memorial service was held Wednesday, March 25, 2008 at the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church with Dr. Arthur J. DeYoung officiating. Internment was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lisner Home, 5425 Western Ave. NW, Washington , D.C. 20015.

Hysong Funeral Home in Washington , D.C. was in charge of arrangements.

FAYE AUGAITIS

Faye Dean Augaitis, 82, died peacefully March 30, 2008 at Wood Glen Alzheimer's Community, Dayton OH.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Bill) Coyne of Oakwood, OH; her son, Michael (Gayle) Augaitis of Oldsmar, FL; her grandsons, Brian and (Barbara) Coyne of Larchmont, NY, Brenden (Eileen) Coyne of Baltimore, MD, Jonathan and (Ashley) Coyne of Oakwood, OH and Andrew Augaitis of Oldsmar, FL.

Also surviving her are her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Coyne of Larchmont, Andrew Coyne of Baltimore, and Nathan Coyne of Oakwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Augaitis, her sisters, Kay Long and Mary Puckett, her brothers, Joseph and James Dean, and her twin sister, Irene Wilson.

In accordance with her wishes, there will no visitation and a private burial in her hometown of Harrodsburg. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.

GEORGIA CAREY

Georgia B. Carey, 84, of Junction City, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at her residence.

Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Danville, she was a daughter of the late George and Mattie Minor Bruce Whitehouse and was the widow of Manuel Carey.

She was a retired cook for Boyle County High School and a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Butch (Sandra) Carey of Danville; two daughters, Barbara (Mark) Winburn of Junction City and Martha Kay (Larry) McKiddy of Danville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Steve James officiating. Burial will follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joey Gilpin, Jimmy Cutter, Chris Winburn, Danny Ross, Jackie Antle and Phil Sammons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Francis Alford, and James, John, Cecil, Hack and Bill Carey.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gethsemane Baptist Church Building Fund.

EVELYN COLLARD

Evelyn Madeline Devine Collard, 88, of Louisville, widow of Thomas Delmar Collard died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville.

Born August 16, 1919 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Laura Tyler Devine and was the widow of Thomas D. Collard.

She attended Campbellsville College and was a teacher for six years in Mercer County, was retired from the Federal Reserve Bank and was a member of their 25-Year Club. She was member of Eastern Parkway Baptist Church and more recently attended Audubon Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son: Thomas (Ardeana) Collard of Louisville; one daughter: Darlene (James) Jackson of Louisville; one brother: Jewell Devine of Harrodsburg; one granddaughter: Heather Collard and several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. John Lott officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Noel, Mike Hardin, Randy Connelly, Buford Noel and Donald Kirkland.

RONDA COOLEY

Ronda Lyn Cooley, Denzil Drive, Hopkinsville, died Monday afternoon, March 24, 2008, of injuries suffered in a traffic accident on the Madisonville Road as she was en route to work as a dispatcher for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

A native of Fort Campbell, she was born July 28, 1973, the daughter of Randall and Juanita Cooley, Hopkinsville, and the late Wanda Lamb Cooley.

She was a member of the Junction City United Methodist Church in Junction City.

She had worked at the EOC since 2001 and was classified a “Class A” dispatcher and was recently promoted to assistant terminal agency coordinator, working as supervisor of National Crime Information Center data.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: a daughter, Madison Nicole Walker, at home; four brothers, Randall Glen Cooley Jr. and Carl Dickerson, both of Hopkinsville, Darrell Dickerson, Harrodsburg, Charles Dickerson, Paris; four sisters, Debbie Scott, Anna Mann and Sue Hutson, all of Hopkinsville, and Amanda Davis, Toledo, OH.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Lamb Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with police Chaplain Ross Littlepage officiating.

A service was held Saturday, March 29, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville. Burial was in Parksville Cemetery in Boyle County.

Memorials may be made to Madison Walker, In Care Of U.S. Bank (LaFayette Road branch).

OPAL GASKIN

Opal Gaskin, 101, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in Somerset.

She was born in the Russell County area of Jabez,, May 9, 1907, to the late Theodore and Amanda Hatfield Johnson. She married C.A. Gaskin in Gallatin, Tennessee, in 1924.

Opal was a homemaker and an expert seamstress and quilter for 75 years. She lived at home until the age of 97, before moving to the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, C. A. Gaskin, her son, Waldo “W. J.” Gaskin (who passed away in 1986), two brothers, Osborne Johnson and Herman Johnson, and a sister, Bessie Karey.

Surviving Mrs. Gaskin are her children; Quentin Gaskin of Harrodsburg, Bruce Gaskin, of Lexington, and Jean Burton, of Somerset; grandchildren, Kay, Paul Scott, Lindin J., Gregory and Lisa; and her great-grandchildren, Emily and Robin.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 28, at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory in Somerset.
