HUDSON NICHOLS
Hudson McAfee Nichols died March 15, 2008 in Harrodsburg.
Born Aug. 30, 1924 in Danville, he was the son of John Carlisle and Martha Hudson Nichols and was the Betty Sharp Nichols.
He graduated from Danville High School in 1942, where he lettered in basketball and football, graduated from the University of Kentucky where he was president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe, receiving a bronze star and received his master’s degree from the University of Missouri in fisheries management.
He was a fisheries biologist for the state of Tennessee, serving many years as Chief of the Fisheries Division of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and had served as President of the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Historical Society, the James Harrod Trust, the American Fisheries Society, the Friends of Pleasant Hill, a member and past Elder of New Providence Presbyterian Church and served for many years as a Trustee and Treasurer of New Providence Cemetery
Fund.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Nancy Nichols (Rick) Kinkade and Cynthia Nichols Rosenberger; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Reynierson and Mary Jean Crews; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held by the family at a later date. Stith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ROY POYNTER
Roy “Burr” Poynter, 68, of Somerset, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008 at his residence.
He was born in Plato, KY on May 12, 1939 to the late David and Gracie Nicely Poynter.
He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He retired from RECC after 30 years.
Mr. Poynter is survived by his wife Corene Jones Poynter whom he married on October 18, 1989 in Gatlinburg, TN; a son Johnny Poynter of Somerset; three daughters Kelly (Rick) Loveless of the Pulaski Community, Marie (Ricky) Schorman of Columbia, and Melissa Poynter Hale of Somerset; two brothers Walker (Bessie) of the Plato Community, Russell (Mazie) Poynter of Harrodsburg; a sister Velma (Keith) Norton of the Woodstock Community; six grandchildren Aimee Loveless, Summer Hale, Tony Poynter, Beth Poynter, Jonathan Poynter, and Pamela Price-Runyon; a great-grandson, Brady Poynter; a special family member Benny Price; and a faithful and beloved toy poodle Rusty who never left his side.
He is preceded in death by a daughter Canda E. Poynter.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 18, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, Somerset, with Bro. J. S. New officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Memorial Garden.
LANCE REED
Lance Reed, 85, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born April 6, 1922 in Letcher County, he was the son of the late Shelly Meade.
He was retired from Brown and Williams Tobacco Company and was a Baptist.
Survivors include: one daughter, Anna (Bill) Elliott of Lancaster; four grandchildren, one step-grandchild, six great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Gene and Harold “Poochie” Reed and one great grandchild.
The funeral was held Tuesday, March 18 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ernest Lear officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were J. T. Logue, Ronnie Compton, Rodney Compton, Gary Tackett, Daryl Tackett, Arvid Tackett, Elmer Bishop and Bill Elliott.
ANNA SAPP
Anna Elizabeth Sapp, 87, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Hospice and Palliative Care Inpatient Unit at the Norton Medical Pavilion.
Born June 25, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Esther Kells Vice and was the widow of Pastor A. Gilbert Sapp.
She was a homemaker, member of Liberty Baptist in Campbellsville and served in the ministry at Liberty Baptist Church from 1956 to 1964 & 1982 to 1991, at Hopewell Baptist Church in Harrodsburg from 1964 to 1967 and at First Baptist Church in Russell Springs from 1967 to 1982.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary L. Sapp of Birmingham, AL and Philip A. Sapp of Mt. Washington ; one brother, Harold Vice of Winlock, WA; one sister, Esthlynn Felmy of Apple Valley, CA; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Midgen Witham.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at Liberty Baptist Church.

BEN ALDRIDGE
Ben A. Aldridge, 53, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Aug. 4, 1954 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret Motter Aldridge and was the husband of Cheryl Aldridge of Lexington.
He was an O’Reilly Auto Parts employee in Lexington and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: one son, Benjamin Aldridge of Lexington; one daughter, Margaret Aldridge of Lexington; two brothers, Glen Aldridge of Nicholasville and Thomas M. Aldridge of Harrodsburg; one nephew and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Motter.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Parks Funeral Home of Harrodsburg in charge of arrangements.
JEANNIE BICKETT
Jeannie G. Bickett, 61, Louisville, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Baptist Hospital East.
Bickett, formerly of Bardstown, was born Oct. 18, 1946, in Louisville.
She was a former employee of Louisville Bedding where she worked for 18 years and was a member of the Catholic faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard S. “Dick” Greenwell.
Survivors include: two daughters, Gwendolyn Marie Hathorn and Sandra Lynn Bickett, both of Louisville; four granddaughters; her mother, Nora Hagan Greenwell, Bardstown; two brothers, Donnie Greenwell, Bardstown and Donnie Sanford, Mercer County; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was Friday, March 21, at the Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home, Bardstown, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Batcheldor officiated.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Joseph Children’s Home, 2823 Frankfort Ave., Louisville.
MAXINE BOTTOMS
Lyndall Maxine Gray Bottoms, 74, of Perryville, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 in Danville.
Born Jan. 24, 1934 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Turk and Edith Carpenter Gray and was the widow of Jimmie Bottoms.
She was a housewife and a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Richie (Vickie) Bottoms of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Dale (Clyne) Lanham of Perryville and Carol (Ed) VanerTeems of Danville; one brother, Aaron (Ethel) Gray of Mercer County; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Wilder Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Denton and Bobby Estes officiating. Burial was in the Beech Grove Cemetery
in Washington County.
Pallbearers were Bob Burchett, David Cochran, William Graves, Morgan Bottoms, Johnny Carpenter and Bobby Gray.
Honorary pallbearers were Woody Staten, Birbon Elliott, Warren Lee Jones and David Sparrow.

ASHLEY BROADDUS
Ashley Nicole Broaddus, 20, of Mount Hebron Road, Lancaster, died Monday, March 17, 2008, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born April 4, 1987, in Naples, FL, Ashley was a 2005 graduate of Garrard County High School, where she was a member of the Swim and Track Team. Ashley loved shopping and spending time with her faithful dog, Vito. She was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents, Sharon Broaddus and the late B. J. Broaddus of Lancaster, Ronni (Brian) Roberts of Burgin and J. R. Sliter of London; a sister, Courtney Michelle Broaddus of Lancaster; great-grandmother, Dorothy May of London; her grandfather, Ronny Baker of Lancaster; a half-brother, Nicolas Ewing, and a half-sister, Heather Ewing, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; "a special Aunt Garnett" of Lancaster; special cousins, Brett and Michael Martin; a nephew, Jamison Tyler Broaddus; a fiancé, Matthew Tyler Pierce of Danville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service was held Friday at Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, with Walter “Wheeler” Hulett officiating. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.
ALTA GRIGGS
Alta Marie Griggs, 70, Jolly Ridge Road, Richmond, died Saturday evening, March 15, 2008, at Saint Joseph Hospital-East in Lexington.
Mrs. Griggs was born March 25, 1937, the daughter of Elbert and Sadie Fuson Hembree, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the wife of Willard Thomas “W. T.” Griggs.
She dearly loved her family and enjoyed cooking and serving holiday dinners to family and friends. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Griggs is survived by: one son, Mike Griggs (Phyllis) of Richmond; one daughter, Janet Lynn Shanks (Eugene) of Richmond; four brothers, Arnold Hembree (Bonnie) of Corbin, Elbert Hembree of Flordia, Edgar Hembree (Pauline) of Paducah and Roy Hembree (and the late Billie) of Harrodsburg; one sister, Faye Noble (Jim) of Corbin; three grandchildren, Clay Thomas Griggs, Ashley and Lauren Bradley; four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griggs was preceded in death by: one brother, Chris Hembree; and one sister, Terri Bayf.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 19, at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home in Richmond with Rev. Arthur Ray officiating. Burial was in Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Greg Farthing, Rick Farthing, Billy Curtis, Stacy Curtis, Neal Winkler and Eugene Shanks.
WILLIAM JOHNSON JR.
William Johnson, Jr., 78, of Lancaster, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at his home.
He was born November 27, 1929 in Garrard County, son of the late William and Addie Poynter Johnson. He was the husband of Shirley Jean Bowen Johnson whom he married July 11, 1959.
He was a member of Gilberts Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He worked many years in the construction of water lines. He retired from the Lexington Waste Company.
Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Shirley Jean Bowen Johnson; one son, William Lee Johnson of Lancaster; five daughters, Teresa Baker of Maysville, Gina Marie (Dan) Anderson of Lexington, Judy Gay (Hugh Richard) Montgomery of Harrodsburg; Alma Jean Singleton of Lancaster; Peggy G. (Elmer) Gray of Lancaster; one brother, Cecil (Pauline) Johnson of Crab Orchard; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Goens, Ruby Egner and Mary May Poynter, and two brothers, Herman and Edward Johnson.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 25, at the McKnight Funeral Home Chapel in Crab Orchard. Bro. Cecil Roundtree and Bro. George Edward Dye officiated. Burial was in Dix River Church Of Christ Cemetery
Active pallbearers were Gerald Turner, Kelvin and Johnny Johnson, Robert, Curtis and Eric Bowen.
Honorary bearers were Ben and Jennifer Gray, Kevin, Addie, Trish, Brandon and Jeremiah Johnson, Ricky Boyd and Daniel Anderson.
