JAMES YEAGER SR
James R. Yeager Sr., 85, of Glendale, AZ, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008.
Born in Mercer County, he was the son of Everett and Margie Yeager and the husband of Mary Lee Yeager.
He served in the U.S. Army, was an electrician, owned and operated Mt. Zion Electrician and Yeager Electric. He was a 50 year member of Macon 8 Blue Lodge, a member of the Consistory and the Ansar Shrine Temple, a member of the American Legion, an Exalted Ruler of the Maryvale Elks and also the Phoenix West Elks.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Patricia A. Hendren of Miramar, FL, Beverly Jean Ruzich of Big Pine Key, FL and Connie Boden of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Thomas Scott McKee of Ramsey, IL; one brother, Cletis Yeager of Harristown, IL; one sister, Cordelia Huffman of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Glenn Yeager, a sister, Azille Satterly and a son, James R. Yeager Jr.
A memorial service will be held at Phoenix West Elks Lodge in Glendale, AZ on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Pt. Dr., Tampa, FL., 33607.
MILTON LAKE
Milton Gale Lake, 61, husband of Katherine Jane Cable Lake, of Mundys Landing Road, Versailles, died unexpectedly February 21, 2008.
He was born June 28, 1946, and was the son of Marsdon and Agnes Taylor Lake of Harrodsburg.
He was a member of the East End Church of Christ and was president of the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association.
Additional survivors include: two children, Missy Lake and Barbie (Sonny) Roberts; three grandchildren, Kayla, Lakin and Madison Roberts; one sister, Linda Lake.
Services were held Tuesday, February 26, at the Betts & West Funeral Home, Nicholasville, with Evangelist Aaron Erhardt. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ray Powell, Joe Hays, Keith Ricks, Brent Shelton, Max Anderson, James Humphrey, Bill Cobb and Troy Sammons.
Honorary bearers were members of the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association and Brothers and Sisters in Christ at the East End Church of Christ.
ADELIA LEATH
Adelia W. Leath, 89, of Winchester, widow of the late Rev. A. Dalton Leath, passed at 3:30 a.m. Sunday February 24, 2008 at the Clark Regional Medical Center.
A native of Mayfield, she was the daughter of the late W.H. and Ethel Wilson Wyman.
She was a retired teacher, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and Virginia Commonwealth University, and a member of First Baptist Church, Winchester.
Survivors include: one son, D. Wilson (Jennie) Leath of Harrodsburg; one granddaughter, Sarah Kathryn Leath of Lexington; one nephew, Dr. James Adams of Mayfield.
She was also preceded in death by a son, William W. Leath, and a daughter Virginia C. Leath.
Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday February 26, at the Scobee Funeral Home, Winchester, by Dr. John Owen. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery.
MARY MCGRATH
Mary Pauline McGrath, 71, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 20, 1937 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late Paul C. Corman and Mary Drury Corman Claunch.
She was a retired custodian for Harrodsburg Independent School System and was a charter member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three sons, Ronnie (Marlene) McGrath, Mark (Melissa) McGrath and John McGrath, all of Harrodsburg; one brother, James R. Corman of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Dorothy (Garnett) Collier and Jane Corman Ader, both of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Benjamin Jasper McGrath.
The funeral was held Tuesday Feb. 26, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bobby Logue officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matt McGrath, Stephanie McGrath, Johnny Drury, Gregory Collier, Paul Collier and Todd Collier.
Honorary pallbearers were Garnett Collier, Johnny Carr, Steven Ader, Erica Gyori, Bruce W. Corman and Jimmy Corman.
SARAH PHILLIPS
Sarah Lee Pearl Phillips, 74, of 503 Fairway Drive, Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born June 11, 1933 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Howard and Flossie Bera Johnson Yocum.
She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass and a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Donna (Donald) T. Russell of Harrodsburg; one sister, Dortha B. Ward of Harrodsburg, Nieces: Lona Y. Reynolds and Vicki Y. Peavler.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, February 29, at the Hopewell Baptist Church by John David Lane and Brian Burkhead. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 28, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
MARY ROBY
Mary Louise Mackin Roby, 100, of Bardstown, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 at Windsor Gardens in Bardstown.
Born Feb. 4, 1908, she was the daughter of A.D. and Ida Edelen Mackin and the widow of Marvin Roby.
She was a former employee of Flaget Memorial Hospital working in the nursery and was a member of the St. Joseph Altar Society.
Survivors include: three sons, Joe Marvin Roby of Harrodsburg, James Patrick Roby and Tony Roby, both of Bardstown; two daughters, Mary Rita Cecil and Margaret Hicks, both of Bardstown; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: one son, Charles Hagan Roby; four brothers, Ben Mackin, J.E. Mackin, Bud Mackin and Felix Mackin; two sisters, Lillian Roby and Frances Coomes and one grandson, Jamo Roby.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with Rev. Bill Hammer officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Nelson County or the St. Joseph Parish Building Fund.
Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
LESLEY SANDERS
Lesley Sanders, 73, of Danville died Sunday.
Born in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Cassie and Elizabeth Sanders.
He was retired from the Thom McAn factory in Danville and was an avid University of Kentucky fan.
Survivors include: his wife, Tanya Sanders of Danville; a daughter, Jessica Sanders of Louisville; a son, Thomas Vincent of Dayton, OH; a sister, Mary Williams of Lexington.
Services were held Wednesday, February 27, at the First Baptist Church, Second and Walnut streets, with Rev. Derrick Briscoe and Rev. Ronald McCowan officiating. Burial was in Hilldale Cemetery.
Smith-Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
JOHNNY TATE
Johnny "J. C." Tate, 62, of Parksville died Friday February 22, 2008 at his residence.
Born November 13, 1945, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Fred Tate Sr. and Frances Webb Tate. He was the husband of Betty Aquirre Tate.
Additional survivors include: five sisters, Lois Boyd of Versailles, Minnie Pevley of Perryville, Myrtle Rose of Williamsburg, Mary Crowe of Hustonville and Virgie Hudson of Indiana; and four brothers, George Cox of Lancaster, James Tate of Nicholasville, Fred Tate Jr. of Lebanon and Robert Tate of Harrodsburg.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 25, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville by James Louis Himes with burial in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
CLARENE TAYLOR
Clarene Taylor, 72, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at the Pembroke Nursing and Rehab Center in Pembroke.
Born April 20, 1935 at Talmage she was the daughter of the late Hampton “Tim” Taylor Sr. and Russie VanDyke.
She was a member of the Dividing Ridge Baptist Church in Mayo.
Survivors include: two brothers, Tim Taylor, Jr of Panama City, FL and Walter Taylor of Harrodsburg and two sisters, Maitha Meaux and Elizabeth Harris, both of Harrodsburg.
She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Adelene Taylor.
The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at the Parks Funeral Home with Bro. Herman Bradshaw officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
KITTY THOMPSON
Katherine Johns Thompson, 58, of Nicholasville, died on Feb. 26, 2008 at her residence.
Born Dec. 5, 1949 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter and Ruth Shannon Reynolds Johns and the late Fred Johns.
She was a graduate from Jessamine County High School in 1968. After high school, she attended Eastern Kentucky University.
She spent most of her adult life in the Harrodsburg area and worked in a variety of occupations, most notably as general manager of Keystone Brush and Contact in Burgin and later as owner of Souther Kitchens and Bath in Harrodsburg.
She loved to travel and experience all that life had to offer. Her enthusiasm and zest for life was surpassed only by her love for her children, grandchildren and family.
In addition to her mother, survivors include: one daughter, Jaisa Thompson (Malcolm) Miracle; one son, Mark Erinn (Kristy) Thompson; three sisters, Karen (William) Kelley, Fredda (Ronnie) Jacobs and Eva (Dana) Marsee; one brother, Barton (Gina) Johns; seven grandchildren, Malin, Emma and Jacob Miracle and Andrew, Ben, Camron and Nicholas Thompson; seven nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at the Edgewood Baptist Church in Nicholasville. Interment will follow at the Cobb Cemetery
in Nicholasville.
Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 29 at the Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Reed, Joe McGlone, Malcolm Miracle, Will Daugherty, Joe Marsee, Adam Watts, Matthew Lee and Thad Lester.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Redmond, Mike Johns, David Johns, Conrad Johns, Britt Miracle and Dana Marsee.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Jessamine County Hospice.
NAOMI WILDS
Naomi Harrell Wilds, 94, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at the Breckinridge in Lexington.
Born July 4, 1913 in Saltville, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Mitchell and Nancy Davidson Harrell and was the widow of Robert Thomas Wilds.
She worked at the Old Fort Harrod State Park Museum for 19 years and was a long time member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Thomas (Jack) Wilds III of Branford, FL; three daughters, Wilma Knight of Nicholasville, Ann Lindsey (Dr. Jene) of Waco, TX and Shirley Donald (Jack) of Garland, TX; one sister, Eileen Coburn of Cincinnati, OH; ten grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, a brother and four sisters.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 and the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. There will be a private burial service.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Burgin Baptist Church or Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
