Douglas Laws Post, #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted military rites for Chester Scott at Spring Hill Cemetery

Those attending were Howard H. Howells Sr., Joe Harlow, Curtis Sherrow, Earl Sherrow, Lucian Landers, Tom Rappleye, James Tewmey, Floyd Shirley, Alan Teele.
Zenah Teater III served as bugler.
U. S. Air Force representatives from Wright Patterson were SSgt Cherl Parker, SfA Jeff Hunt, and A1c Joel Reponille.
MILDRED SHARP
Mildred Lee Sharp, age 66, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.
She was the daughter of the late Melvin Thomas and Anna Kerfees Nevins Sharp. She was a housekeeper; a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church; and a 1959 graduate of Mercer County High School.
She is survived by special cousins, Jean (Leon) Stratton, Lawrenceburg, Shirley (Roger) Middleton, Bradfordsville, Jimmy (Betty) Cunningham, and Connie (Beverly) Cunningham, Lawrenceburg, and several other cousins.
Graveside services were held Friday, October 26, at Providence Cemetery
in Mercer County with Bro. John Hockersmith officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg was in charge of arrangements.

KENNETH WHITE
Kenneth J. White , 73, of Lexington, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007.
Born in Mercer County, he was the son of John and Hazel Yeast White and the husband of Sue White .
He was a retired employee of IBM, a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Susan (Mitch) Glenn of Lexington; two sons, Stephen (Kathy) White of Valdosta, GA and Patrick (Mary) White of Georgetown; one brother, Norman White of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, Stacy, Hillary, Justin, Stephanie, Victoria and Ashley.
The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 29 at W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland with entombment in Lexington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are to be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
CARLOS DENNIS
Carlos Elwood Dennis, 81, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007.
Born in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Joseph Brown and Viola Hurst Dennis and was the husband of Ruby Smith Dennis.
He served in the US Army during World War II and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, Mark (Melinda) Dennis, of Crestwood; Mike (Jodi) Dennis, of Georgetown and Tim Dennis, of Lexington; one sister, Beatrice Walters, of Burgin; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 3 at W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Mark, Mike, Tim, Chad and Jordan Dennis and Tom Ballard.
Honorary pallbearer was Bob Ballard.
Contributions are to be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
CLAUDE DENNY
Claude Thomas Denny, 71, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born March 14, 1936 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Claude Franklin and Ruth (Rose) Denny and was the widower of Marilyn McGlone Denny.
He was a Marine serving during the Korean War. He was a retired supervisor for the Department of Human Resources and a member of the St Andrew Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge # 777 F&AM, the Oleika Shrine, the American Legion Post # 46, and was the Commandant of the Marine Corp League (1994 & 1995).
Survivors include: one sister, Cora Lee Wilson of Louisville; two brothers, Fred Denny of New Castle, IN and Leroy Denny of Floyd Knobs, IN and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 5 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Fathers Frank Osburg, Joseph Muench and Danny Schwendeman officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery
with military rites.
Pallbearers were Dale Heise, Bobby Riester, Doc McKinney, Kevin Horn, Jesse Gilpin and Bill Huff.
LUTHER JONES
Luther Jones, 83, of Danville, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.
Born March 7, 1924 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Lucy (Hardin) Jones and was the widower of Dorothy Jones.
He was retired from General Electric in Cincinnati, OH.
Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Hendry of St. John’s, MI and one son, Bill Jones of Hamilton, OH.
The funeral was held Wednesday Nov. 7 at the Burgin Memorial Garden with Odis Clark officiating.
LEON KEELING
Leon Keeling, 89, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 at his home.
Born Oct. 4, 1918 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Ruel and Elsie Jewell Shewmaker Keeling and was the husband of Imogene Buster Keeling.
He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder, board chairman and Sunday School teacher. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO) and for more than fifty years, worked for The Harrodsburg Herald as advertising salesman, reporter, photographer, columnist and news editor.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Carole Ann (Elmer) Congleton of Nicholasville and Donna Jean (Dave) Butler of Berea and two grandchildren, Brittney Congleton of Lexington and Jana Congleton of Nicholasville.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morrison Keeling of Louisville and Lynn Keeling of Springfield.
The funeral was held Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Phil Williams and Rev. Mark Thompson officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Sharp, Chris Searcy, Larry Royalty, Tom Devine, Danny Chilton, and Bobby Trisler.
Honorary pallbearers were the employees of The Herald.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Harrodsburg Christian Church and/or Heritage Hospice in Danville.
LEON KEELING
Herald Newsman, Leon Keeling, Dies
Leon Keeling, longtime news editor at The Harrodsburg Herald, died Thursday at his home from cancer.
Keeling, 89, first worked at The Herald in 1946 as a reporter for a few months, then moved to Lebanon where he co-owned the Marion Falcon newspaper. He sold that paper and went to Texas and worked for a bi-weekly newspaper for a few months, but wanted to return to Kentucky.
He bought a newspaper in Grayson County, but came back to The Herald in December of 1950 where he worked until his retirement in 1984, then afterward continued to write his column, “Past and Present” until just recently.
During his tenure with The Herald, Keeling worked as advertising salesman, reporter, photographer, columnist and news editor.
“Leon was very wise, but also very witty. He would have you in deep thought one minute and laughing hysterically the next. His presence will be greatly missed here at The Herald,” said Chris Freeman, Herald general manager.
Keeling was a native of Washington County and the husband of Imogene Buster Keeling for 63 and a half years. They made their home at 142 Robards Court. In a 2005 story about their long marriage, Keeling compared a marriage to a newspaper, saying, “we read each other.”
He was an active member of he Harrodsburg Christian Church where her served as deacon, elder, board chairman and Sunday School teacher.
He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II.
In addition to his wife, Keeling is survived by two daughters, Carole Ann (Elmer) Congleton of Nicholasville and Donna Jean (Dave) Butler of Berea and two grandchildren, Brittney and Jana Congleton of Lexington.
GENE MONROE
Gene Monroe, 62, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday Oct. 30, 2007 at his residence.
Born Oct 31, 1944 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Sid and Margie Taylor Monroe and was the husband of Kathy Gayle Hill Monroe.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army, a carpenter at Shakertown and was a member of Centennial Baptist Church in Danville.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, Michael (Jasmine) Monroe, of Pineville, James (Heather) Monroe and Nicholas Monroe, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, Allen (Martha) Monroe of Burgin; two sisters, Betty Tackett and Mary Alma Carmack, both of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Friday, Nov. 2, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Jimmy Hayslett and Michael Monroe officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Camp Nelson Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Collins Hill, Hubert Yocum, Lee Monroe, Joe Monroe, Kenny Whiteside and Paul Votaw.
CRAIG NEWMAN
Newman, Craig 47, husband of Jennifer Newman, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital.
Born March 28, 1960 in Lexington, he was a son of S. and Joanne Newman of Harrodsburg.
He was a 1978 graduate of Lafayette High School. Craig was a veterinary technician for Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, and a gifted and talented horseman and trainer. He was a member of TOBA and the Lexington Model Airplane Club.
Along with his wife and parents Craig is survived by: two brothers; Chris (Trish) and Carey Newman, his grandmother Edna Reeves, four uncles and two aunts, two nieces and two nephews; mother-in-law; Jan (Steve) Fogliasso; father-in-law; Jeff (Jacque) Donofrio; sister-in-law Jill Donofrio.
There was no service.

HERBERT PHILLIPS
Herbert Tinsley Phillips, 74, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Frankfort.
Born July 23, 1933 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Thomas and Christine McMurry Phillips.
He was a former truck driver and attended the Lawrenceburg Seventh Day Adventist.
Survivors include: three daughters, Teresa Phillips of Los Angeles, CA, Melissa (James) Bentley of Beaumont, TX, Louise (Dennis) Cantrell of Stamping Ground; three sisters, Louise Landers of Simpsonville, Mary Alice Pieper of Jacksonville, Fl, and Marguerite Yow of Stanfield, NC, and six grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Calkins officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mason Cantrell, Dennis Cantrell, Jason Taylor, Charles Peach, Tom Landers, J. T. Evans and John Evans.
