JESSE YOUNG

Jesse Young, 89, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Oct 7, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct 31, 1917 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Otis C. and Pearl Hardin Young and the widower of Edith Davidson Young.

He was a farmer, KY Colonel and a member of the Salvisa Christian Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Saundra Powell of Memphis, TN and Ann Dean of Harrodsburg; two sons, J.C. Young of Harrodsburg and Michael Young of Salvisa; two sister-in-laws, Edwina and Helen Young; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Hatch; five brothers, James Thomas, O.C. William Merrideth, Amos and Andy Young, and two sisters, Jeanie Lyons and Anna Lou Clark.

The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct 11 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Johnny Hockersmith and Gil Duffee officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: David Powell, Stephen Powell, Kenny Hatch, R. T. "Tommy" Dean III, Ricky Young and Jeff Wells.

Honorary Bearers are Allen Lyons, Jimmy Lyons, Phillip Young, Eddie Young, Tony Young, Lynn Young, Bud Hahn, Carl Hazelwood, Darrell Agee, Bubby Brock, William F. Dean, and Curtis Currens.

Visitation is Thursday prior to Service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 801 S. Limestone, Suite E, Lexington, KY 40508-4048.

WILLIAM CHARLTON

William Ewart Charlton, 75 of Harrodsburg, died Saturday Oct. 13, 2007 in the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Warren, OH, he was the son of the late William E. and Mary Ann Pearson Charlton and was the husband of Lee Chadwick Russell Charlton.

He was a consultant for Trim Masters Inc. and a retired ATR employee.

Mr. Charlton was a member of Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church and a founding member of the Bluegrass Gem and Mineral Society.

In addition to his wife, survivers include: two daughters, Laurel A. Kaplin of Louisville and Susan M. Charlton of Harrodsburg; two sons, William E. Charlton, IV and James B. Charlton, both of Frankfort and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg

The family request memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102, Harrodsburg, or Relay for Life, P. O. Box 411, Harrodsburg.

EVERETT CLEMONS

Everett Young Clemons, 84, widow of Jo Ann Winburn Clemons, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at his residence in Versailles.

Born in Clark County he was the son of the late McKinley and Nellie Lee Clemons.

He was a former A&P Grocery Store manager and engineer technician, served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Brenda (David) Goldey of Versailles; one son, Joe Everett (Rosemary) Clemons of Harrodsburg; one sister, Thelma Watts of Winchester; and three grandsons.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 16, at the Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial was in Rose Crest Cemetery.

ELEANOR CORNWELL

Eleanor Marie Mathews Cornwell, 92, died October 11, 2007, widow of Robert Cornwell and daughter of Bruno and Martha Mathews of Kankakee, IL.

She resided at Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles from Aug of 2001 to 2007.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Irving, one sister, Bernice and one grandson, Jonathan Ford Cornwell.

She is survived by two sons, David (Jean), Harrodsburg, and Barton (Llouann), Peotone, IL, four grandsons, Chris (Joyce), Grapevine, TX, Curt (Laura), Dallas, TX, Robert (Karen), Frankfort, and Mark (Denise), Dallas, TX, and one granddaughter, Virginia-Bibb Golden Lexington.

The funeral and interment will be in Kankakee, IL, by Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home of Bourbonnais, IL.

In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to Taylor Manor Nursing Home, 300 Berry Ave, Versailles, KY 40383-1474.

SHIRLEY DAUGHERTY

Shirley Ann Daugherty, 61, of Lancaster, died Wednesday October 10, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 8, 1945, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of Reba Ellison Short of Stanford and the late Roy Short.

She was a retired teacher having taught in Harlan County for seven years, Pulaski County for four years, Kenton County for five years and at Lincoln County High School for 17 years. She was a member of Harrodsburg Church of God and Kentucky Artists Guild.

Survivors include: her husband of 43 years, Glenn C. Daugherty; a son, David Daugherty (Tonya) of Lancaster; daughters, Deanna Henderson (Jon) of Lancaster and Donna Hall (Mike) of Cleveland, Tenn.; brothers, Ronald Short (Shannon) of Stanford and Paul Short (Janice) of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Kathyleen Andrews of Cullman, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Short, and a brother, Jimmy Short.

Services were held Sunday, October 14, at the Danville Church of God by Rev. Richard Ussery, Rev. Floying Thompson, Rev. J. David Stevens, Rev. Wendell Johnson and Rev. Mike Hall. Burial will be 10 am. Monday at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Harold Mullins, Mike Hall, Jon Henderson, David Daugherty, Christian Daugherty, Brennen Henderson, Seth Henderson and Hezekiah Daugherty.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul, Ronald, Jimmy, Johnny, Shane and Joey Short and the men of the Harrodsburg Church of God.

Memorials may go to the American Cancer Society.

JAMES DEAN

James D. Dean, 74, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 10, 1933 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Rufus and Ella Mae Carey Dean and was the husband of Jean Thompson Dean.

He served during the Korean War in the Army. He was retired from Square D and a member of Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Mercer County Fish and Game Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, James Allan Dean and Michael Wayne (Denise) Dean both of Harrodsburg and one granddaughter, Haley Daneille Dean of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was held Saturday, Oct 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Larry Camic officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sonny Driskell, Danny Bugg, Eddie Russell, Daryl Russell, Dee Wessley, Bobby Riley, Garry Riley, and Anthony Mobley.

Memorial contributions may be made to The R.O.C c/o Harrodsburg Baptist Church, 302 South Main Street.

INEZ MYERS

Inez Henrietta Myers, 79, of Harrodsburg died Sunday, Oct 14, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Born March 18, 1928 in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of the late Harry Clifford and Hazel Margaret Losey Myers.

She was an employee of Western Southern Life Insurance in Cincinnati and attended Pioneer Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Mercer County Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing Rook.

Survivors include: one sister, Valletta McCoun of Harrodsburg; two nieces, Karen Perkins of Perryville and Deb Brown of Stanford; one nephew, Ken McCoun of Richmond; her caregiver, Sarah Ramos and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

The funeral was 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 17, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter and Andrew Dyer officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Merchant, Harry Harmon, Lawrence Peavler, Todd McCoun, Eric McCoun, and Brandon Carrier.

NELLIE PIERCE

Nellie Denny Pierce, 93, died Monday, Oct 15, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.

Born Jan 1, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Mary Belle Grow Denny and was the widow of Herman Pierce.

She was a graduate of the Danville School of Practical Nursing. She was a retired Ky State Hospital LPN, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was an avid reader.

Survivors include: one son, Dennis L. (Janet) Pierce of Danville; two daughters, Naomi (Edwin) Green of Charlotte, NC and Jacqueline (Hugh) Foster of Shelbyville; nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Ray Pierce.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct 18, 2007 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. Harold Best officiating. Burial will follow.

Pallbearers will be Gary Thomas Denny, Granville Sherrow, Danny Denny and Eddie Sherrow.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

MICHAEL PRICE

Michael Lynn Price, 25, Grayson, died Sunday, Oct 14, 2007 at the Kings Daughters Memorial Center in Ashland.

Born Dec 10, 1981 in Mercer County, he was the son of Billy and Sharon Kaye Ryan Price of Danville.

He was a graduate of Carter County High School, he enjoyed country music, hunting and fishing. He was a clerk.

In addition to his parents, survivors include: one grandfather, Jack Ryan, Jr. of Danville; one grandmother, Mary Cummins Bishop of Greensburg; one brother, B.J. (Victoria) Price of Junction City; one sister, Daphnie (Todd) Woodrum of Stanford and three nieces.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct 18, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Turner officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Chad Price, Frankie Price, John Ryan, Gary Ryan, Jr., Matthew Corey, David Ryan, Jr. and Lewis Price.

ANNETTA RUSSELL

Annetta Russell, 90 of Gleneagle Court died October 10, 2007 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born September 9, 1917 in Jeffersontown, she was the daughter of the late John Hamilton and Birdie Morris Russell.

Annetta attended Bowling Green Business University and worked as a division statistician for Kentucky Utilities for 32 years. She was a member of the Danville Garden Club, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, The Presbyterian church and the Women of Church.

Survivors include: her sister, Lynn R. Proctor of Danville; two nieces, Meg Russell and Susan Russell Sommers.

She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, John Hamilton and Ruth Russell.

Services were held at Stith Funeral Home, Danville, Friday, October 12. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
