MARY BOWMAN
Mary Love Hurst Bowman, 97, of Oxmoor Lodge in Louisville, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007.
She was a native of Harrodsburg and was the widow of Chester Raymond Bowman.
She was a member of the Beargrass Christian Church, a former member of St. Matthew’s Women’s Club and was a former volunteer at Baptist Hospital East. She was also an avid bridge player.
Survivors include: two grandsons, Charles Perry Bosmanjian and Lynn Bosmanjian, and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Pearson Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Beargrass Christian Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
JAMES CARROLL
Rev. James Leon Carroll, 63, of Brodhead, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Born May 31, 1944 in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late James Sherman and Ida Mae Hopkins Carroll, and was the husband of Wanda Lou Denney Carroll.
He was the pastor of the Beulah Church of God for 34 years and enjoyed fishing, hunting and motorcycles. He was a welder for 27 years at NACCO.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Anthony Dwayne (Amanda Suzanne) Carroll and Barry Ray (Virginia Lynn) Carroll, both of Brodhead; one daughter, Kimberley Michelle (Ray) Dean of Brodhead; four sisters, Jewelene (Paul) Mefford of Augusta, Fernice Blevins and Brenda Sue Owens, both of Brodhead, and Wanda Faye (Lee) Harness of Stanford; one brother, Marvin Wayne (Kathy) Carroll of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, two aunts, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, James Scott Carroll.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 14 at the Beulah Church of God with Bros. Virgil Jay Harmon and Robert Hefner Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Carroll Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ray Fields, Matt Fields, AKenny Hall, Monte Monsanto, David Brown and Shannon Owens.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Denney, Robbie Webb, Winford York, Mike Alexander and Donnie Hayes.
MARSHALL EDWARDS
Marshall Edwards , 88, of Danville died Monday September 17, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 18, 1919 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Harry and Bessie Swope Edwards.
He was the owner/operator of a cabinet and craft shop which he had operated since his retirement as manager from Farmer’s Elevator in 1983. He had owned and operated a dairy farm for many years, and had served as manager of Barnett & Company Feed Mill. He had also been partners in the operation of a local trucking company business with his father as well as custom hay baling , threshing and steaming tobacco beds. He had also worked for the A & P Stores .
He was a four year veteran of World War II, a graduate of Camp Dick High School and a member of Burgin Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher.
Survivors include: two sisters, Evelyn Broaddus of Lancaster and Jessie Sparks of Long Beach, CA; two sister-in-laws, Mrs. John Cordier of Lexington and Katherine Brent of Somerset; and two brother-in-laws, Harry Cordier of Nicholasville and Robert Cordier of Georgetown , TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Mary Elizabeth Cordier Edwards and a brother Lawrence Edwards.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, at the Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, with burial in Lancaster Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 Tuesday at the funeral home.
VIRGIL GADBERRY
Virgil Lee Gadberry, 96, of Danville, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007 in Harrodsburg.
Born Dec. 24, 1910 in Casey County, he was a son of the late George Denzil and Mary Jane McWhorter Gadberry, and was the widower of Mildred Francis Howard Gadberry.
He was retired from Southern Railroad, where he had worked for 34 years as an engineer. He was also an avid bowler and this March set the national record for bowling a high 188 triplicate for individuals 90 and over, a record that had been held for more than 30 years. This earned him an honor from Centre College, as well as a visit with Gov. Fletcher. He had also won two senior bowling state championships. He was a lifetime member of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church and was a member of the Angler’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: one daughter, Marlene (William) Freeman of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, Kim (Donnie) Edwards, Cyndy (Steve) Hamilton, Missey (Tim) Ellis, Derek Gadberry, Donnie Gadberry and Debbie (Bill) Kosnow; 12 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Donald Gadberry, and two sisters, Ruby Pemberton and Elizabeth Harper.
Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with the Rev. Tommy Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Derek and Donnie Gadberry; Freeman, Zeke and Eli Edwards; Alex Hamilton, and Nathan and Kyle Ellis.
Members of the Angler’s Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday, 5-9 p.m.

NEWTON GILL
Newton Gill, 69, of Frankfort, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007.
Born Feb. 4, 1938 in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Newton and Ima Guynn Gill, and was the husband of Rebecca Martin Gill.
He was a retired diesel mechanic for Florida Tile.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: five daughters, Joyce Chapman and Faye Allen, both of Harrodsburg, Patricia Eaton of Philadelphia, TN, Elizabeth Talbee of Frankfort and Marilyn Harrod of Owenton; three sons, Newton “Chip” Gill Jr., Daryl S. Woolums and Eric B. Woolums, all of Frankfort; three sisters, Geneva Burge and Eula Jean Cocherman, both of Lexington, and Ruby Giltin of Parksville; three brothers, Wendell Gill of Lexington, Billy Gill of Versailles and Marshall Gill of Nicholasville; 22 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Hendren; one son, Donald Glenn Gill; one sister, Stella Mae Haddix, and one brother, Tommy Gill.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007 at the Clark Funeral Home in Frankfort with the Rev. Mike Napier officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were James Harrod, Lloyd Lawson, Brad Gill, Eric and Daryle Woolums and Stephen Martin.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Gill, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
CHARLOTTE KRUER
Charlotte Lynn Sullivan Kruer, 55, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
Born Sept. 26, 1951 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of William (Iona) Sullivan of Lawrenceburg and the late Juanita Robinson Sullivan, and was the wife of James E. Kruer.
She was a customer service representative for Commonwealth Credit Union, and was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, and father and step-mother, survivors include: one son, Christopher Wayne (Lynette) Mason of Perryville; two brothers, Tom Sullivan of Lawrenceburg and Howard Ray Sullivan of Harrodsburg, and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Melisa Lynn Mason.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel in Frankfort with the Revs. Doug Davis, Greg Warren and John Martin officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.

MICHAEL MORRIS
Michael Edwin “Big Mo” Morris, 56, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Marvin and Faye Likins Morris, and was the grandson of the late Joe and Lillie Likins, and Raymond and Ethel Morris.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #34. He was a transport officer for the Anderson County Detention Center, and retired from Lexmark after 30 years of service.
Survivors include: two aunts, JoAnn (Carroll) Taylor of Lawrenceburg and Colleen (Pat) Haney of Lexington; three uncles, Morris (Rena) Likins of London, John (Betty) Likins of Georgia and Paul Likins of Lawrenceburg, and several cousins.
Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Fred Knickerbocker officiating. Burial was in Sand Spring Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kerry Taylor, Tony Likins, Mike Clemons, Howard Beasley, Steve Tipton, J.B. Blandford, Robert “Buffalo” Adams and Bill Haggard.
Honorary pallbearers were David B. Taylor, Ray Cox, Keith Pike, Bill Doenges, David “Robo” Robinson, Tim Perry, Russell Satterly, Bill Curtsinger, Jesse Brock, David O. Taylor and Joani Clark.

ELIZABETH PATRICK
Elizabeth Jessamine Terhune Patrick, 92, died Sept. 12, 2007.
Born Oct. 16, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James Isaac and Lottie Bradshaw Terhune, and was the widow of Garrett Patrick.
She was a direct descendant of the pioneer Garrett Terhune, a Revolutionary War soldier who moved to this area helping in the establishment of Fort Harrod and the Dutch Reformed Church known as the Old Mud Meeting House. As a descendant of this pioneer family, she was chosen to participate in the ceremony marking the dedication of the George Rogers Clark Memorial by Franklin Delano Roosevelt at Fort Harrod on Nov. 6, 1934. She was valedictorian of her senior class at Burgin High School in 1933. She was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, and was active in WMU.
Survivors include: one daughter, Betty Ann Dean of Harrodsburg; one brother-in-law, Walter Patrick; one sister-in-law, Opal Patrick Mayes; a special cousin, Louise Bailey; two grandsons, Earl Patrick Dean and James Hadden (Robin) Dean; three great-grandchildren, and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held Friday, Sept. 14 at Shawnee Run Baptist Church with Bro. Ralph Neal and Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were family members L.D. Nickles Jr., William Thompson, Bruce Patterson, Jason Crace, Stephen C. Bailey, Bill Patrick, David Patrick and Scotty Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, Betty Motley, Connie Anderson, Juanita Duncan and Betty and Sonny Fain.

KENNY RICHARDS
Kenny Duane Richards, 18, of Liberty, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 in Washington County.
He was the son of Derek Richards and Sandra Norris of Springfield, and Christine Helen May and Jeffrey Harmon of Liberty.
In addition to his parents, survivors include: one sister, Laken Michelle (Michael) Coleman of Eubank, and maternal grandmother Charlotte Mary May of Waynesburg.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eugene May, and his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Gay Richards.
Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland with Bro. Michael Mullins officiating. Burial was in Pilot Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Todd Richards; Alex and Dale Blevins; Lee Ferrell, and Jeff, Tommy and Derek Harmon.
Honorary pallbearers were Laura, Brian and Stephen May; Danny, Steve, Charlie and Tony Richards; Bucky Ferrell, and Roman Yoder.
