RONALD BAKER

Ronald 'Frog' Baker, 66, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Oct. 15, 1940 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Willie and Annie B. Carr Baker.

He was an employee of National Byproducts and was a farmer and construction worker. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, he enjoyed fishing, music and dancing, and he was a Jeff Gordon NASCAR fan.

Survivors include: one brother, Fonnie (Darlene) Baker of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Freida Briscoe of Harrodsburg and Barbara Green of Lawrenceburg, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Maurice, John, Bobby Eugene and Cleo W. Baker, and three sisters, Gertrude Baker, Helen Simpson and Annelle Collier.

Services will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bros. Derek Baker and David Collier officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Art Baker, Harold Baker, Earl Briscoe, Mike Baker, James Ray Griffieth, Connie Baker, Ronnie Simpson and Robbie Baker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bessie Adams, Dyella Whitehead and children, Teresa Bradley and children, Sandy Sanders, Patrick Sims, Amanda Buchanan, Kathy Briscoe, Trish Claunch, Doug Darland, Betty Sue LouAllen and Todd Boyd.

Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday after 7 a.m.

JOHN BOTTOMS

John William Bottoms, 67, of Meadow Lane, Danville died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born May 7, 1939 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Johnnie Henry and Anna Mae Spoonamore Bottoms.

He was a graduate of Madison High School, Richmond, and attended Eastern Kentucky University. He served in the US Army from 1960 to 1964 and the Kentucky National Guard Posts of Richmond, 1964 - 1969; Danville, 1969 - 1981; Richmond, 1981-1985; Frankfort, 1985 - 1993; and Danville 1993 to 1999 where he retired after 39 years of military service. In 1999 he went to work for the Bluegrass Army Depot at Avon in charge of shipping and receiving. He was in charge of closing bases overseas and worked with all branches of the military. He wrote the Kentuckyy National Guard ration cookbook. He was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. # 28 and volunteered as a chaperone at Trooper Island Camp.

Survivors include: his wife, Myra Pryse Bottoms, Danville; one daughter, Tonja Deanne Bottoms, Lexington; one son, John E. Bottoms, Danville and one granddaughter.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, December 29, at the Stith Funeral Home with Jack Tussey officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at the Stith Funeral Home, Danville.

The family requests donations in support of the families of all units at the Danville National Guard Armory.

ARNOLD COLLINS

Arnold Collins, 91, widower of Edith Mae Williams Collins who he married on Sept 6, 1935, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family Friday, December 29, 2006.

Born Jan 9, 1915 in Whitesburg, he was a son of the late John D. and Hettie Everidge Collins.

He attended school at Colson Elementary and Pine Mountain Settlement School near Harlan. He later moved to Whitaker, KY where he worked with his dad managing the General Merchantile Store. Soon after his marriage to Edith, he went to work on TVA projects in TN and later became an independent trucker and owned various retail businesses in and around Whitesburg. Arnold moved to Lexington in the early 60's where he operated small grocery stores in Avon, Winchester, and Nicholasville until his retirement.

Since retirement, he has enjoyed a full life spending time with his children at their various homes in KY, MI, and FL. He was a lifelong Christian serving in both Baptist and Presbyterian congregations and an avid student of the Bible and it's teachings. His favorite hobbies included gardening and farming.

Survivors include: three sons, Jim (Pat) Collins of MI, Jeff (Chris) Collins of FL, and Jack (Faye) Collins, Lexington; three daughters, Edith Ann (Roger) Richardson, Irvine, Betty Lynn (Tony) Moffett, Harrodsburg, and Donna Rose, Whitesburg; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Jerry, John, and Joe Collins.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, December 31, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road by Rev. Ken Henderson.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Teen Mission USA, 940 Holly Springs Dr, 40504, or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr, Lexington, KY, 40504.

RUSSELL CURTSINGER

Russell Lee Curtsinger, 89, of Beaumont Avenue, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 11, 1917 in Casey County, he was the son of the late John Henderson and Hattie Lee Guthrie Curtsinger, and was the husband of Nancy Bugg Stratton Curtsinger and the widower of Ann Browning Curtsinger.

He was a retired auto body repairman and had worked as a craftsman at Shaker Village. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Eller's Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four daughters, Ruth Ann Thompson of Lexington, and Linda (Charles) Mattingly, Connie (David) Patrick and Vicki (Eddie) Tewmey, all of Harrodsburg; one son, William Lee (Kathleen) Curtsinger of Danville; one step-daughter, Suzanne Stratton Pryor of Bowling Green; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Russell Curtsinger III, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Sunday, Jan. 1 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason Tewmey, Aaron Thompson, Charles Patrick II, Tracy Cerise, and Tommy and John Willie Watts.

NORA DEAN

Nora Gayle Dean, 51, of Cooke Avenue, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 4, 1955 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Argo and Martha Hardin Dean.

She was a member of the Bohon Christian Church.

Survivors include: one sister, Phyllis Devine of Harrodsburg; one nephew, Scott Devine; one niece, Cindy Devine, and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Argo Harrison Dean.

Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Clifford Neat and J. B. Gillum officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Scott Devine, Lynn and Donald Logue, Allen Hardin, Larry Wilham and Ron Nolin.

LOTTIE DURR

Lottie Pearl Colvin Durr, 95, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at her home.

Born Jan. 31, 1911 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie Keeling Colvin, and was the widow of William Russell Durr.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Shiloh Christian Church and a former member of the Homemaker's Club.

Survivors include: four daughters, Cora (George) Inman Jr., Evelyn (Charles) Williams and Buelah Hockersmith, all of Lawrenceburg, and Shirley (Oscar) Parrott of Bardstown; one son, Robert 'Bob' (Brenda) Drury of Bardstown, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Hadgie Carter and Louise Cunningham; three sisters, Celestus Cornish, Effie Judd and Maggie Gibson, and three brothers, Orland, Willie and Hellem Colvin.

Services will be held Friday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bros. Eldon Rucker and Robbie Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 5-8 p.m.

LINDA HILL

Linda Joyce Ethington Hill, Danville, died Saturday, December 30, 2006.

Born March 11, 1947 in Salt Lake City, UT, she was the daughter of Eileen Ethington and the late Theodore Randolph Ethington.

She graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington, in 1966 and graduated from Lexington Community College in 1989. She married Gary Hill Sept. 13, 1969.

She enjoyed a career of working for GTE and Cardinal Hill Hospital as a medical transcriber.

Survivors include: one daughter LaDonna (Michael) Smith, Nicholasville; and two grandchildren, Lindsay and Cameron; her mother, Eileen Ethington Sallee and stepfather Roy Sallee, Harrodsburg; one brother, Wayne Ethington, Riverton, UT; five sisters, Carolyn Herrera, Carlsbad, CA, Patty Pitt and Pam Bell, both of Loveland, CO, Suzie Brown, Urbandale, IA and Anita Moreno, St. Louis, MO.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, at the Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family requests memorials be sent to Cardinal Hill Hospital.

KYLE LEONARD

Kyle Thomas Leonard, 19, of Spears Lane died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, in Danville.

He was born in Danville on August 8, 1987, son of Robert Sleet and Laura Huffman Leonard.

He attended Boyle County High School, was a basketball player and an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his parents, Sleet and Laura Leonard, Danville; one brother, Taylor Sleet Leonard, Danville; one sister, Holly Lee Leonard, Lexington; and his maternal grandmother, Wanda Huffman, Danville.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Fred 'Buster' Huffman, Bobby Leonard and Dolores Leonard.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 30, at Springhill Cemetery, Harrodsburg with Rev. Barry Harmon officiating.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday at the Stith Funeral Home, Danville.

The family requests donations to be made to the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society.

MARY LONG

Mary Harris Long, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 21, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Edd and Ida Woods Harris, and was the widow of James Long.

She had worked as a licensed practical nurse at Eastern State Hospital for 23 years. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, the Joy Sunday School class, Order of Eastern Star #309 and the Mercer County Senior Citizens. She loved to crochet, sew, quilt and garden.

Survivors include: two daughters, Phyllis Clark Medley of Canton, TX, and Janice I. Chapman of Harrodsburg; one brother, Johnnie R. Harris of Lexington; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Services were held Sunday, Dec. 31 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

EDNA NICHOLSON

Edna Ann Nicholson, 84, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna Varnau Waldman, and was the widow of Arthur Francis Nicholson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, John P. (Mary) Nicholson of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Karen (Kenneth) Monnett of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday, 5-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1065 Dove Run Road, Lexington, KY 40502.
