Mary Jane Smith, 93 years old, died at her residence in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Sunday, May 30, 2004.
Born May 12, 1911, in Laurel County, Kentucky, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Smith. Together they owned and operated Smith’s Beauty Shop in London, Kentucky, for about 50 years.
She was the daughter of the late Abe and Lucy Sasser of Laurel County. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Sasser, Tollie Sasser, Jim T. Sasser and Johnny Sasser; and two sisters, Maucy Sasser Howard and Emily Sasser.
Survivors include four children, Flor-Enz Smith of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Marnell Smith and wife Joy of Pollock Pines, California, Farrel Smith and wife Joyce of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Delaphene Webb and husband Ernest of Bowling Green, Kentucky; one brother, Abe Sasser of London, Kentucky; and two sisters, Lorene Sasser Goldstine of Krane, Indiana, and Aliene Sasser Peters of Sevenmile, Ohio. There are 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home on Thursday, June 3, at 1 p.m.
Sherman R. Parsons
Sherman R. Parsons, age 83, of West 5th Street, London, Kentucky, died Monday, August 9, 2004, at the Marymount Medical Center in London.
Born September 8, 1920, in Madison County, Kentucky, he was the retired owner of Parsons Furniture and Appliances, and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mayby McDaniel Parsons and Dave Parsons; and a son, James Earl Parsons.
Survivors include his wife, Sallie Sizemore Parsons of London, Kentucky; children George Parsons of Golden, Colorado, and Fred Parsons of Danville, Kentucky; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Terry Lester officiating.
Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery
in Berea, Kentucky.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 11 at the funeral home.
Ruby Harville Johnson
Ruby Harville Johnson, of 52 Anders Road, London, Kentucky was born on January 10, 1912, to Mamie Whitaker and Matt Harville in Laurel County, Kentucky. She was joined by three sisters -- Irene, Pauline and Shirley -- all of whom preceded her in death.
Ruby married Elmer Johnson on December 25, 1931, and they were blessed with three sons and two daughters. They enjoyed 60 years together until Elmer departed this life on August 14, 1992.
A lifelong member of Locust Grove Christian Church, Ruby is survived by son Gerald Johnson and wife Joy of Hamilton, Ohio, son Ferrell Johnson and wife Alene of Fairfield, Ohio, daughter Jean Proffitt and husband Mervil of London, Kentucky, daughter Phyllis Chasteen and husband Ray of London, Kentucky, son Keith Johnson and wife Judy of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Ruby departed this life on August 4, 2004, at Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly, being 92 years, 6 months and 25 days old.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Brown and Ernie Robbins officiating.
Burial followed in the Locust Grove Cemetery
at Keavy, Kentucky.
Ruby Marie Harville

Larry J. Onkst
Larry Joe Onkst, age 57, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of London, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2004, at the St. Joseph Hospital Hospice Care in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born June 3, 1947, in London, Kentucky, to the late Maurice and Maggie Hammons Onkst. He was a school bus driver for the Fayette County Schools System and a member of the Southern Heights Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Devin K. Onkst of Lexington, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Onkst and Ashley Renee Onkst, both of Fishers, Indiana; one sister, Marceline Greene of London, Kentucky; five brothers, Jesse Onkst, Virgil Onkst and wife Dorothy, Vernon Onkst and wife Joyce, Ronnie Bell, and Terry Benge and wife Doris, all of London, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by one son, Darrin Onkst; two sisters, Mildred Fields and Ruth Justice; and two brothers, William Onkst and Bernard Onkst.
Funeral services were held at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, on Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at 12:30 p.m.
Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Ula Jean Blair, age 72, of North U.S. Highway 25, East Bernstadt, Kentucky, died Sunday, August 8, 2004, at her residence.
Born May 15, 1932, in Perry County, Kentucky, she was retired from food service management and was a veteran of the United States Army.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leana (Williams) Lawson and Hood Lawson; a son, Garvin Lee Blair; and a grandchild, Heather Jean Snyder.
Survivors include her husband, Gene L. Blair of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; two daughters, Sandra Jean Allen and husband Arlin K. of London, Kentucky, and Diana Lynn Snyder and husband Fred A. of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; three sons, Jeffrey Allen Blair, Curtis Wade Blair and wife Angela K., and Michael Wayne Blair and wife Mary Elizabeth, all of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; two sisters, Marvelene Harper of Charleston, West Virginia, and Edith Hornback of Clarksville, Tennessee; two brothers, Jack Lawson and Max Lawson, both of Enon, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren, Shawn E. Allen, Justin K. Allen, Shannon C. Bishop, Ian James Bishop, all of London, Kentucky, Amber Blair and Andrea Blair, both of Richmond, Kentucky, James Michael Blair and Stephanie Blair, both of Oregon, Michela Blair, Chole Blair and Abbigail Blair, all of East Bernstadt, Kentucky, and Brandy Elizabeth Wagers of Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Grimes officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pittsburg Cemetery
at Pittsburg, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be Arlin Allen, Ian Bishop, Mike Blair, Curt Blair, Jeff Blair and Tony Snyder.
Robert Ray Benge
Retired bakery worker
Robert Ray Benge, age 72, of Matt Baker Road, London, Kentucky, died Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky.
Born March 18, 1932, in Clay County, Kentucky, he was a retired bakery worker for Kerns Bakery and was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Flora (Vaughn) Benge and Robert P. Benge.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Rush) Benge of London, Kentucky; two sons, Kenneth Benge and Wayne Benge, both of London, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Amanda Benge, Dustin Benge and Douglas Cathers, all of London, Kentucky; and a great-granddaughter, Stephanie Benge of London.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 9, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dustin Benge and the Rev. Terry Gabbard officiating.
Burial followed in the Merrimac Cemetery
at London.
Pallbearers were Perry Farris, Doug Cathers, John Trowbridge, Cecil Thacker, James Brock and Lenville Deaton.
Kenny Harris
Kenny Harris, age 57, of Blair Road, London, Kentucky, died Friday, August 6, 2004. He was a son of the late Nola and Robert Harris.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, August 9, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Harris Cemetery
