Velda Grimes, 79, of Oldham Avenue, Lexington, Kentucky, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the Samaritan Hospital.
Born August 2, 1922, in Laurel County, Kentucky, she was a homemaker and a member of the Blackwater Missionary Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Ella Hubbard and John B.Hubbard; and her first husband, Edgar Mullins.
Survivors include her husband, James Grimes of Lexington, Kentucky; a daughter, Wanda Blanton of Somerset, Kentucky; three sons, Jackie Edgar Mullins and James L.Mullins, both of Lexington, Kentucky, and PaulWayne Mullins of Irvine, Kentucky; two sisters, Maxine Hammons of Gray, Kentucky, and Vesta Miller of London,Kentucky; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.Wednesday, July 31, at the BowlingFuneral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in the Merrimac Cemetery
inLaurel County.
Rosa Pauline Humfleet

Rosa Pauline Humfleet, 60, of Jacob Drive, Williamstown, Kentucky, a native of Laurel County, died Friday, August 2, 2002, in Covington, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Mary (McFarland) Gaines and Ollie Waldrup.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 6, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the East Colony Cemetery.
Victoria Ruth Jacob
Keavy, Kentucky

Victoria Ruth Jacob, 46, of Wise Owl Road, Keavy, Kentucky, died Saturday, August 3, 2002, at the Marymount Medical Center in London, Kentucky.
Born August 30, 1955, in Duval County, Florida, she was an administrative assistant and member of the Locust Grove Church of Christ.
She is survived by her mother, Bonnie (Hughes) Jacob of Keavy, Kentucky; her father, Walter Jacob of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Jennifer Trammel of Bogart, Georgia; a brother, Buddy Jacob of Jacksonville, Florida; and three grandchildren, Destiny Hays of Conyers, Georgia, Whitley Trammel and Chandler Trammel, both of Bogart, Georgia.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, August 5, at the London Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dave Maltzan officiating.
Burial followed in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery
in Jacksonville, Florida, with graveside services being held at 11 a.m.
Rhoda Lewis Landrum
Kokomo, Indiana

Rhoda L. Landrum, 88, died at 12:15 a.m. July 30, 2002, in Kokomo, Indiana.
She was born in Leslie County, Kentucky, on Polls Creek, to the late Daniel Boone Lewis and Mary Magdalene Williams. Rhoda lived most of her life in Krypton and Lancaster, Kentucky. She was married to Carl Landrum on January 4, 1933. He died on April 7, 1992, after 59 years of marriage.
Mrs. Landrum was a loving mother to nine children. She was a businesswoman and caregiver. She was generous to everyone in need. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Arlis and Marcus; a sister Mary; and brothers Henry and Willie.
Survivors include five sons, Ivan from Ohio, Earnest, Robert, Wayne And Larry, all from Kentucky; two daughters, Alene Pyke and Allie Mozzone, both of Indiana; nine sisters, Juanita, Margaret, Alice, Polly, Mona and Betty, all of Ohio, Linda and Katherine, both of Tennessee, and Geneva of Kentucky; five brothers, Chris and Ray both of Indiana, Felix, James and Daniel , all of Ohio; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday August 3, at 10 a.m. at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home, 510 East Fourth Street, London, Kentucky, with Pastor Evan Strong officiating.
Burial followed in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 5970 Hwy. 25, Corbin, Kentucky.
Donna Elaine Laney
Covington, Kentucky

Donna Elaine Hutton Laney, 49, of Covington, Kentucky, died Friday, August 2, 2002, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Delores Hutton, and is survived by her father, Theodore “Ted” Hutton, and stepmother, Charlotte Hutton, both of Corbin, Kentucky, and husband, Jack Laney of Covington, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 5, at the Corbin Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Brafford Cemetery.
William Noble Manning Jr.
Pittsburg, Kentucky

William Noble Manning Jr., 56, of Pittsburg, Kentucky, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky.
Born July 15, 1956, in Laurel County, Kentucky, he was disabled.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Noble Manning Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Sarah (Elkins) Smith of Pittsburg, Kentucky; his stepfather, Albert McDaniel of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; two sisters, Mildred Henson of London, Kentucky, and Mary Brewer of Pittsburg, Kentucky; and a brother, Robert Joe McDaniel of London, Kentucky.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 1, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carman Brewer officiating.
Burial followed in the Walter McDaniel Cemetery
in East Bernstadt.
Ladel McFadden
Nelsonville, Ohio

Ladel McFadden, 63, of Nelsonville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
He was born August 9, 1938, in Deercreek, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Potter and Maggie (Benge) McFadden.
He graduated from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, in 1961, where his major was health and physical education, and a minor in business. He was named junior varsity college All-Kentucky Basketball in 1958, and received several MVP awards in intercollegiate basketball during college. He worked as a high school teacher and coach for four years, including Red Bird Mission School in Clay County, Kentucky. He retired from McFadden Insurance Services, Nelsonville, Ohio, where he was the owner and operator, and early in his career he had worked for Cincinnati Insurance Company and State Farm Insurance Company.
He was a member of the Nelsonville Philodorian Masonic Lodge F&AM $157, Scottish Rite, Athens County Shrine Club, Nelsonville Elks Lodge $543, Nelsonville Rotary, and a former member of the Nelsonville Eagles #391. He was a founding member of the Berean Community Theater, a recipient of the Roland Pierce award, Athens Area Chamber of Commerce person of the year, past president of the Nelsonville Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Parade of the Hills Committee, he helped organize the annual Nelsonville Christmas Parade, and he was a strong supporter of the Nelsonville community and Nelsonville Civic organizations.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Dishong) McFadden of Nelsonville, Ohio; two daughters, Patsy Hooper and husband William of Phoenix, Arizona, and Sharon Dunfee and husband Gary of Albany, Ohio; two beloved stepsons, Kip May and wife Brenda of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Kevin May and Katherine Osmer of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren Jonathan Kochis, Alexander DiBenedetto, Lusas DiBenedetto, Reagan May, Parker May, Christy Mallet, Kelly Sismondo, David Medley, Leanne Medley and Kevin Dunfee; three great-grandchildren; brothers Mendel Mcfadden and wife Kathleen of Hamilton, Ohio, Bart McFadden and wife Elaine of London, Kentucky, and Ben McFadden of London, Kentucky; sisters Alice Cupp, Jewell Dean Allen, and Patsy Minton and husband Paul, all of London, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Fern McFadden and Irene Philpot; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, Ohio, with the Rev. Mike Thomas officiating.
Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery
in Nelsonville.
