Charles Stevens
Charles Stevens, 74, of Cawood, Kentucky, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at the VA Mountain Home Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Born March 31, 1926, in Smith, Kentucky, he was a disabled veteran having served in the Korean Conflict and believed in the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maud (Middleton) Stevens and Laborne Stevens; his wife, Opal (Grubb) Stevens; a brother, William "Bill" Stevens; and a sister, Ellen Burke.
Survivors include eight children, James Harvey Stevens, Beverly Stevens, both of Harlan, Ky., Charles A. "Chuck" Stevens, Kathy Sergent and husband Ben, of London, Ky., Linda Stevens and Billie Stevens, both of Houston, Texas , Benny Stevens of Ohio, and Cheyanne Stevens of North Carolina; a brother, Endell Stevens and wife Cathy of Florida; two sisters, Hazel Dean and husband Charles "Bugs," and Lucy Mixon and husband Jim of Georgia; and five grandchildren, Jessica Clem, Amiee Clem, James Stevens, Charles William Stevens and Honey Stevens.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 8, at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Home Chapel in Harlan, Kentucky, with the Rev. Herman Moore officiating. Burial followed in the Middleton Cemetery
at Smith, Kentucky.
Pallbearers were his family and friends.

Bruce Hicks, 42, of 324 Hicks Lane, London, Kentucky, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at his residence.
Born October 7, 1957, in Hamilton, Ohio, he was a former funeral director for House-Rawlings Funeral Home and a truck driver for Schnider Trucking, a veteran of the U.S. Army, member of the Providence Baptist Church of London, Ky., a member of the McKee Masonic Lodge #144, Lexington Scottish Rite Consistary in Lexington, Ky., the Olieka Shrine Temple in Lexington, Ky., and Bush Lodge #703 F&AM.
Survivors include his parents, Geneva (Webb) Hicks and Alonzo Hicks of London, Ky.; two sons, Brice Hicks and Braxston Lee Hicks, both of London, Ky.; a sister, Nadine Rush of London, Ky.; a brother, Darrell Hicks of London, Ky.; a nephew, MacKenzie Hicks of London, Ky.; and two nieces, Heather Rush and Holly Rush, both of London, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denvis Rush officiating. Burial will follow in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily, Ky.

Dora Carroll Thomas, 92, of 746 Sasser School Road, London, Kentucky, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at the Marymount Medical Center in London.
Born March 1, 1908, in South Carolina, she was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church in Sugar Run, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma (Noe) Carroll and John E. Carroll; and her husband, Byrd Thomas; and five brothers and sisters, Lillie Mae Cornwall, Esther Carroll, Walter Carroll, Pearl Carroll and Paul Carroll.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Hubbard and husband Amos of Danville, Ind., Ruby Grosdidier of Indianapolis, Ind., and Betty Smith and husband Cloyd Jr., of London, Ky.; a son, James Junior Thomas and wife Dawn of Jonesville, Va.; a sister, Maude Snodgrass of Jonesville, Va.; two brothers, Eugene Carroll and wife Barbara of Centerville, Ohio, and Richard Carroll and wife Virginia of Hartsville, Ala.; five grandchildren; a step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, at the Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va., with Robert Helton and Willie Ray Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery
at Sugar Run in Jonesville, Va.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hubbard, Mike Chatham, Chris Jennings, Josh Castetter, Randy Cox and Garry Ely.
Barbara W. Hacker

Barbara W. Hacker, 47, of 1428 Tom Cat Trail, London, Kentucky, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, at her residence from natural causes.
Born March 19, 1953, in Laurel County, Kentucky, she was a teacher at North Laurel High School and a member of St. Williams Catholic Church in London.
She was preceded in death by her father, Raleigh Walker.
Survivors include her mother, Helen (Thiel) Walker of London, Ky.; her husband, Chris Hacker of London, Ky.; three daughters, Emily Helene hacker, Amy Pearl Hacker and Miranda Rose Hacker, all of London, Ky.; three brothers, William Walker, Raymond Walker and Kenneth Walker, all of London, Ky.; and two sisters, Carolyn Brock and Marcy Phillips, both of London, Ky.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 6, at St. Williams Catholic Church with Father Jerome Stern officiating. Burial followed in the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park at London.
Pallbearers were Jim Kennedy, Eldon Harris, Bill Moore, Vernon Vaughn, Jack Bentley and Glen Nicholson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
House-Rawlings Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin Masters, 80, of West City Dam Road, Keavy, Kentucky, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center.
Born February 2, 1920, in Corbin, Kentucky, he was a self-employed painter and a member of the West Corbin Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Della (Mitchell) Masters and Nero Masters.
Survivors include his wife, Eula (Robertson) Masters of Keavy, Ky.; a son, Roy Masters of Keavy, Ky.; a daughter, Della Smith and husband Lucky of Manchester, Ky.; two sisters, Lela Bunch of Corbin, Ky., and Jean Doll of Alexandria, Ky.; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Friday, August 4, at the McFarland Cemetery
in West Corbin with the Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.
Corbin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Hobert J. Johnson
Hobert J. Johnson, 65, of Petersburg, Kentucky, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Born April 3, 1935, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet (Hick) Johnson and Luther Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Gregory) Johnson of Petersburg, Ky.; three daughters, Marsh Holbrook, Beverly Johnson and Kim Smith, all of Petersburg, Ky.; a son, Bryan Johnson of Petersburg, Ky.; four brothers, Henry Johnson of Gulfport, Miss., Estill Johnson and Marvin Johnson, both of London, Ky., Earl Johnson of Morrow, Ohio; 10 sisters, Ruby Sohn of Morrow, Ohio, Edna Thall of Reading, Ohio, Martha Hammons, Zelma Wyatt, Eulene Sowder and Linda Cawood, all of London, Ky., Maggie Whitaker of Cold Spring, Ky., Evelyn Powell of Texas , Cathy Stinky of Illinois, and Brenda Doty of Hedrick, Ky.; and five grandchildren.
Burial was in the Bullittsburg Cemetery.

Born Sunday, July 22, 1951, in Laurel County, Kentucky, he was a farmer and member of the McWhorter Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gene R. Hibbard.
Survivors include his mother, Edna (Mays) Hibbard of London, Ky.; a brother, Jim Hibbard of London, Ky.; and two sisters, Carol Jean Ross of Indianapolis, Ind., and Diana Lowery of Kokomo, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 4, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Virgil McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow in the East Salem Cemetery
