Minnie Stewart's last wish granted: She returned home to Falmouth
Minnie Lois Stewart's final wish was to die in her Falmouth home.
However, Mrs. Stewart's home, damaged by the March flood, is being rehabbed. So church workers rushed to get one room prepared for Mrs. Stewart's return.
Mrs. Stewart, 61, came home Sunday morning. She died Monday night.
"When we unloaded her out of the ambulance she said, "I'm home. I made it,' and she started crying," said her son, David Earl England of Falmouth. "She seemed like she was at peace because she was at home."
Mrs. Stewart had suffered from cancer for 2 1/2 years. Since the flood, she had been staying at the Robertson County Home Care Unit in Mt. Olivet, her son said. Mrs. Stewart wanted to die in the home where she lived for 25 years. It also was where her husband, Frank Stewart, died in 1994.
"That was her biggest dream to basically be able to come home," her son said. "She got to do what she wanted to do."
Mrs. Stewart and her husband formerly owned Stewart's Ambulance Service in Falmouth. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Butler.
Mrs. Stewart enjoyed spending time with her family and making quilts.
"You couldn't ask for a better mother," Mr. England said. "She was there whenever we needed anything."
Other survivors include a daughter, Linda Newkirk of Falmouth; sons, Mark England and Frank Patrick Stewart, all of Falmouth; a stepdaughter, Janice Wiggins of Falmouth; her parents, Alvah and Louella Johnson Moorhead of Brooksville; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Falmouth Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Pendleton County. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, is handling arrangements.
