Lloyd E. Crossen, owned popular Covington eatery
Lloyd E. Crossen, 82, achieved his dream by owning and operating his own restaurant in Covington.
Mr. Crossen, of Miamisburg, Ohio, formerly of Ft. Wright, had managed several eateries before opening Lloyd's Restaurant at Sixth and Madison during the late 1950s.
"He had 10 booths, two counters and an upstairs private dining room," said a daughter, Elizabeth Storer, of West Carrollton, Ohio.
"Some members of the Cincinnati Reds used to go there to eat."
Mr. Crossen died Wednesday at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Zelma Betty Porter Crossen, died in 1980.
Mr. Crossen ran his restaurant until the early 1970s. He served family meals and his most popular dish was chicken and dumplings.
The restaurant had a rock and roll jukebox and plenty of customers, particularly on Friday nights, Ms. Storer said. "Covington was alive back then and it was a growing business," Ms. Storer said.
She said her father wasn't afraid to speak his mind.
"He was very outspoken. He was as good a father as he could be," Ms. Storer said. "There wasn't anything he wouldn't have done for us."
Other survivors include his wife, Ann C. Harlett Crossen; sons, L. Michael Crossen of Lakeside Park and John Crossen of Seminole, Fla.; another daughter, Mary McNutt of Waynesville, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament church, Ft. Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Ft. Mitchell.
