Eugene Gosney, friendly nature earned him trust selling cars
Eugene Gosney had a way about him that made even strangers feel like they had found a friend.
'He had a unique quality about him that when you talked to him, you felt like he really was concerned about whatever you were talking about,' said his wife, Donna Gosney of Fort Thomas.
Mr. Gosney died Saturday after surgery at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was 60.
He grew up in Kenton County and graduated from Simon Kenton High School in 1957. The same year, he married Donna, his high school sweetheart.
He worked for many years for A&P grocery stores, starting as a stock boy at the age of 16 and ending as a store manager in Indianapolis about 1970.
After several more years in Indiana working in industrial sales, Mr. Gosney moved his growing family - he and his wife had five children - back to Northern Kentucky in 1979.
Mr. Gosney was a sales representative for several auto dealerships in Northern Kentucky, including Taylor Lincoln Mercury and Jeff Wyler Dodge in Fort Thomas. Auto sales were particularly enjoyable for him, his wife said.
'He was a customer person,' she said. 'He liked meeting people.
'While (sales representatives) might not have always admired each other because of the competition in the business, there were not many people who didn't like the man, because he was so nice.'
In his free time, Mr. Gosney enjoyed hunting and playing softball and basketball for teams at his church, Lakeside Christian Church in Lakeside Park.
He also enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Indian Lakes, near Batesville, Ind.
Other survivors include a son, Christopher Gosney of Taylor Mill; daughters, Wendy Clifton of Erlanger, Terry Penick of Piner, Jody Gosney of Fort Thomas and Dena Ravenscraft of Alexandria; his mother, Irene Burns of Cincinnati; brothers, Kenneth Gosney of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Jerry Burns of Highland Heights; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeside Christian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Memorials are suggested to the church, 195 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017; or to charity. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
