Pharmacy owner Gloria Otto, gave to others
Caring for others - family, friends and customers - was a large part of life for Gloria Frazier Otto, who operated a pharmacy with her husband.
Mrs. Otto, 73, of Ft. Thomas, died Friday night in St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.
Mrs. Otto and her late husband, Fred H. Otto Jr., formerly operated a pharmacy at Scott Boulevard and Eighth Street in Covington.
"They worked seven days a week, and six nights for 22 years. She was there every day," said Mrs. Otto's daughter, Margo Otto, of Ft. Thomas.
Many of the pharmacy's customers were needy, and Mrs. Otto often allowed them to pay later or waived the charges altogether, her daughter said.
"Sometimes she just gave them the medicine. She felt as though she was on a mission, as well as it being a livelihood," said state Rep. Katie Stine, who spent large portions of her youthful years at the Otto residence.
"She was an adult who enjoyed having teen-agers around. The place to be was in the Ottos' kitchen," said Mrs. Stine.
Mrs. Otto encouraged her children to obtain an education, said Margo Otto. "She wanted us all to go to college. She wanted us to achieve."
Her mother was a "wonderful support person," said her daughter.
"She installed a sense of consciousness," added Mrs. Stine, recalling the discussions Mrs. Otto engaged in with her children and their friends.
Mrs. Otto was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Cincinnati. Her husband died in 1980.

Thomas, who is chief of security at Northern Kentucky University, and Eric Otto of Cincinnati; daughters, Paige Otto and Jamie Bezold, both of Ft.
