Carolym Suchanek, homemaker
It is difficult for Carolyn Suchanek's family to say goodbye but easy for them to praise her.
"She was warm and gentle and humorous and loving," said a daughter, Jo Ann Arlinghaus of Erlanger.
Mrs. Suchanek, who lived in Covington, died Thursday. She was 93 years old.
She was a native of Covington. A milliner, she made hats for a short period after she married in 1925. She then became a "fantastic" homemaker, said Mrs. Arlinghaus, cooking and otherwise doting on her husband and children.
But her heart was big enough to embrace people outside the family, said Mrs. Arlinghaus. She was one of the first volunteers at the Redwood School and Rehabilitation Center in Ft. Mitchell, where she worked pri marily with children whose cerebral palsy made it difficult for them to eat and walk.
In 1981, she founded Pathfinders at her church, St. Augustine Church in Covington.
"It was a senior citizens' group when you were not al lowed to call it a senior citizens' group," said Mrs. Arlinghaus.
Mrs. Suchanek was a member of several Catholic social and charitable organizations, including the St. Monica Society, St. Gemma Guild and Daughters of Isabella. She also volunteered with the St. Elizabeth Pink Ladies and the St. Joseph Heights Old Faithful Club.
"She had a great life, and we feel lucky we had her this long," Mrs. Arlinghaus said.
Mrs. Suchanek's husband, Stanley Suchanek, died in 1968.
In addition to Mrs. Arlinghaus, survivors include daughter Mary Lee Macklin of Erlanger, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Augustine Church in Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery
in Ft. Wright.
Memorials are suggested to Redwood School and Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Ft. Mitchell 41017; or St. Augustine Church, 1839 Euclid Ave., Covington 41014.
Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
