Rosa Bergman, devoted mom, led PTA
Rosa 'Rosie' Bergman's life revolved around her family.
She was actively involved in the PTA at 6th District School in Covington, where her four children attended, for more than 20 years.
She was a troop mother when her oldest daughter was in the Girl Scouts, and she regularly attended her son's football games at Holmes High School. She never missed her daughter's softball games.
'Everything we ever did or wanted to do, she was right there with us,' said Mrs. Bergman's oldest daughter, Karen Swanson of Newport.
Mrs. Bergman, of Covington, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was 61.
She grew up in Bromley, and moved to Covington with her family when she was a teen-ager.
She married her husband of 39 years, Bill Bergman, in 1959. She worked in the kitchen of a Cincinnati restaurant for several years until she became pregnant with her first child.
That's when she decided to make mothering her full-time profession. And she was good at it, her daughter said.
'She and a couple of the other women in the PTA did all of the fund-raisers for (6th District School),' Mrs. Swanson said. 'Everything the school needed, they raised money for, like the library.'
Mrs. Bergman went on to be president of the school's PTA.
In her free time, she enjoyed cooking.
Her husband died in 1997.
