William "Billy" Ray Banks, 22, of Burlington, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a self-employed bricklayer and a member of Wildlife Hunting Club.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Carter Banks; daughters, Leighanna Lynn Banks and Carolyn Jean Banks, both of Burlington; his parents, Donald Banks of Covington and Joyce Banks of Walton; brothers, Donald Palmer Banks of Covington and Dennis Allen Vallandingham of Norfolk, Va.; sisters, Judy Faye Taylor of Williamstown, Leanna Carol Banks of Highland Heights and Betty Lynn Vallandingham of Walton; and half-sisters, Nancy Kay Horn and Daisy Marie Banks, both of Covington.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Covington Church of God. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Cleaon Combs, 78, of Covington, died at 12:03 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired carpenter and construction worker, and a member of Community Pentecostal Church of God, Taylor Mill.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Combs; a daughter, Lenora Hampton of Ryland Heights; a son, Roger Combs of Battle Creek, Mich.; stepsons, Ronald Holliday of Latonia and Donald Holliday of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; nine grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Mitchell Deaton, 85, of Maysville, died Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. He was a retired freight handler with L&N Railroad, Cincinnati, and a member of First Baptist Church, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Deaton; a daughter, Lucilla Allen of Hudson, Ohio; a son, Ervin Deaton of Kentucky; stepsons, Tommy Thomas and David Thomas, both of Maysville, and Ralph Deaton of Gratin, Ohio; stepdaughters, Evelyn Roaden of Walton, Ruth Ann Tully of Maysville and Amy Johnson of Morehouse; brothers, Levi Deaton of Melbourne, Estill Deaton of Hyden and William Deaton of Jacksonville, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery.

Kenneth Allen Haddix, 60, of Edgewood, died Tuesday at his residence. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Courtney Haddix; a daughter, Katherine Sue Haddix of Edgewood; sons, Dr. Pryce L. "Pete" Haddix of St. Louis and Dr. Allen Courtney Haddix of Frankfort; a brother, Paul Haddix of Cincinnati; a sister, Dorothy Vrana of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.

Edna Gamel Hart, 77, of Ft. Thomas, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas. She was the retired owner of Hart Hardware, Newport, and a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Ft. Thomas. Her husband, Charles T. Hart, died in 1996.
Survivors include sons, Dennis C. Hart of Bellevue, Michael T. Hart and Gary L. Hart, both of Ft. Thomas; a brother, Earl Gamel of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.

Katherine Hartmann, 79, of Latonia, died Jan. 29 at Rosedale Manor in Latonia. She and her husband, Norbert, owned Lily's Chocolate Shop in Covington until their retirement in 1986. Mrs. Hartmann was a member of St.John Congregational Church, West Covington, and founding president of the church adult Bible class. She was a member of the church choir, the church Ladies Society and the Order of the Eastern Star Daylight Chapter in Covington.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Christine Einhaus of Covington; a son, Paul Hartmann of Glenville, W.Va.; a brother, Alex Papas of Lakeside Park; sisters, Rita Collister of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Joyce Papas of Danville, Calif.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rose L. Heinrichs, 87, of Covington, died Tuesday at her daughter's residence in Ft. Wright. She was a homemaker and a former caretaker of the sacristy of St. Benedict Church, where she made priests' vestments. She was a member of the church's Ladies Altar Society and co-founder of the Busy Fingers club at the church. Mrs. Heinrichs made dresses for nuns and baby clothes for hospitals. She was a past president of the Forest Hills Homemakers Club. Her husband, Raymond Heinrichs, died in 1978. A daughter, Dolores Campbell, died in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Roseanne Reynolds of Ft. Wright; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Clara M. Schmitt, 85, of Florence, died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Edwin Schmitt, died in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Edwin Schmitt of Boca Raton, Fla.; a daughter, Florence Funk of Oceanside, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Norma Jean Wood, 61, of Worthville, died Wednesday at home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Wood of Worthville; sons, Joe Wesley Grugin and Charles Brent Grugin, both of Owenton; a daughter, Melinda Poindexter of Somerset; a brother, Tate McDonald of Greenville; a sister, Helen Smith of Frankfort; and five grandchildren.

Erwin G. 'Doc' Heiselman, obstetrician for 30 years
Dr. Erwin G. "Doc" Heiselman's family figures he delivered 13,000 to 14,000 babies in Campbell and Kenton counties during his more than 30 years as an obstetrician.
"Everywhere we'd go people would come up to him and say, "Doc, you delivered me,' " said his daughter, Mary Jo Foster of Ft. Thomas.
"To me that's a living legacy. That's just wonderful that he delivered all those people and they were proud that he did."
Dr. Heiselman, 87, of Ft. Thomas, died at 10:08 p.m. Thursday at Carmel Manor in Ft. Thomas. He retired from practice in 1964 and later worked for the Western-Southern Life Insurance Co. for 10 years.
"He loved his job," his daughter said. "He'd get phone calls all through the night, and he didn't mind getting up. He was a kind, gentle man. He was always there."
Dr. Heiselman was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Ft. Thomas, where he was chairman of the building committee. He also was on the building committee for St. Luke Hospital and the original clubhouse at Highland Country Club, Ft. Thomas. He also served on the board at Speers Hospital, St. Luke Hospital and St. Elizabeth Medical Center North. His wife, Esther M. Heiselman, died in 1994.
Dr. Heiselman enjoyed gardening, playing cards, traveling and reading.
Everyone enjoyed talking to him, his daughter said. "You could ask him about anything, and he could give you some advice on it. He was usually right."
Other survivors include a son, Thomas Heiselman of Waynesville, Tenn.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. James E. Back, 72, of Cold Spring, died at 4:25 p.m. Friday at his residence. He was a retired manager of Southern States Campbell County Co-Op, a former owner of Backs Farm and Garden Store, Alexandria, and an assistant at the Alexandria Funeral Home. He was an Army veteran.
He was a member of several organizations, including the Alexandria Jaycees, Alexandria Lions Club, Alexandria Masonic Lodge No. 152 F&AM, Alexandria Business Association, Campbell County Extension Council, Campbell County Farm Bureau, Campbell County Fair Board, Campbell County VFW No. 3205, Alexandria Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, and Campbell County PTA.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Back of Cold Spring; a son, Mike Back of Woodstock, Ga.; daughters, Vicki Foley of California and Margaret McGatha of Clarksville, Tenn.; sisters, Irene Brown and Joann Walters, both of Blackey, and Minerva Craft of Walton; brothers, Ray Back of Blackey, Reedus Back of Morehead and John Back of Lexington; and seven grandchildren.
