Irene Sauerbeck, loved to travel
Irene Mae Hoepker Sauerbeck loved to travel and spent her last winter in Florida.
"She wasn't so sure she wanted to go, but after two or three weeks she was glad she did. We had a ball," said Mrs. Sauerbeck's daughter, Rita, who retired early to travel more extensively with her mother.
Mrs. Sauerbeck, 80, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday morning in St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
Widowed for 16 years, her mother had always enjoyed shorter trips, Miss Sauerbeck said. "She was my friend and traveling companion. She was always ready to go. She would always say, "Throw me in the car and wake me when we get there,' " Miss Sauerbeck said.
She and her mother had planned other travels for this year but her mother fell ill in the spring, she said.
Until a year ago, Mrs. Sauerbeck was a member of the advisory board member at the Northern Kentucky Senior Center in Covington.
"She loved to go over there. She helped in the gift shop, and she loved to play euchre. God help anyone who planned anything when it was her day to play euchre," Miss Sauerbeck said.
Mrs. Sauerbeck was a member of Corpus Christi Church, Newport, for 45 years. She was a past chief ranger of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of the church social club, St. Ann Society and Altar Society.
