Eleanor Turner, 71, of Covington, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a factory worker for Safegard Corp., Covington.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Croswait of Covington and Vivian Wynn of Newport; a son, Jeffrey Turner of Covington; brothers, Elmer Young of Newport and Carl Young of Bellevue; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.

Bellevue's Norma Balzhiser, loving mother
Norma M. Schwerman Balzhiser was blessed with a talent for music. She played piano and ukulele for friends and family - or for herself, while she was waiting for laundry or cooking dinner.
"She used to play the piano by ear," said a daughter, Joyce Von Bokern of Bellevue. "Her mother taught piano when she was a child, but my mother always said she didn't practice enough."
Mrs. Balzhiser died at 1:24 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas. She was 97.
She grew up in Newport and moved with her family to Bellevue when she was a young girl. In 1926, Mrs. Balzhiser married her husband, Harold Balzhiser, who died in 1986. They had two children.
Mrs. Balzhiser lived in the Bellevue home with her son until last year, when she moved to Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights.
She was a homemaker and was active in social organizations, including the Daughters of Isabella Circle No. 1 in Newport, a Catholic women's organization to which she belonged for about 57 years.
During World War II, Mrs. Balzhiser also helped the Bellevue Women's Club get involved in the war effort by rolling bandages that were sent overseas, chaperoning dances for the soldiers and giving blood.
Mrs. Balzhiser was a member of St. Anthony Church in Bellevue and its Altar Society.
"She just was a very easy-to-get-along-with person, just sweet and loving," Ms. Von Bokern said. "I think she always looked to the good side and always gave someone the benefit of the doubt. She was never one to jump and criticize right away."
Other survivors include a son, Jerry Balzhiser of Bellevue; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandc hild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Church. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas. Joseph E. Bowman, 78, of Ft. Mitchell, died Monday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. He was a contractor with Votel Contractors Co. and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell.
Survivors include a brother, John T. Bowman of Ft. Mitchell; and a sister, Mary Lou Adick of Independence.

Margaret Oneida Lawson, 62, of Berry, died Tuesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana.
She was a homemaker, a retired U.S. Shoe worker and a member of Union Baptist Church, Berry Lioness Club and Berry Homemakers.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Lawson; a son, Marty Lawson of Griffin, Ga.; a daughter, Debbie Laytart of Warner Robins, Ga.; brothers, Roberts Chambers of Burlington, Don Chambers and Butler and John Allen Chambers of Cynthiana; sisters, Sue Greene of Burlington and Mary Gilmer of Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Shirley R. Vaught, 70, of Florence, died Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was a homemaker and member of First Church of Christ, Florence and the Florence Mallwalkers.

Geneva Meyer, devoted to kids, church
Geneva Meyer of Covington loved children. She worked at a nursery at her church and as an assistant teacher at a childhood center.
"She had a special place in her heart for little kids," said her husband, Chester C. Meyer of Covington. "She just loved doing anything she could for them to make them happy."
Mrs. Meyer, 44,,died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was an assistant teacher with James Biggs Early Childhood Center, and a member of East Side Church of the Nazarene, Covington. There, she was a board member, nursery director, steward and a leader of the Ladies Fellow ship.
Mrs. Meyer collected hanging baskets and en joyed working in her flower beds.
Mr. Meyer said his wife was a strong woman.
"She was the glue that held the family together," Mr. Meyer said. "Three years ago, we lost our oldest son and she held us together through that. She was special and we will miss her."
Their son, Clayton Meyer, died in 1995.
Other survivors include a son, Mark Edward Meyer of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and brothers, Stanley Steward and Ray Stew ard, both of Covington, and Sammy Steward of Burlington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at East Side Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Al lison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. Frank Backer, 85, of Coving ton, died at 2:53 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a retired truck driver and mechanic. His wife, Carol Backer, died June 4.
Survivors include sons, David Backer of Polk City, Iowa, and Dan Backer of Runnnells, Iowa; daughters, Barbara Zeeks of Ryland Heights and Shirley McKinney of Covington; nine grand children, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchild ren.

Norma J. Turner Coomer, 50, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a secretary with Cinergy Corp., Cin cinnati, and a member of New Heart Christ Fellowship Church, Taylor Mill. She also was a Brighton Center volunteer.
Survivors include her hus band, Dudley Coomer; a son, James Keith Hall of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Lisa Bramel of Newport; her father, James Turner of Newport; and a brother, James Turner of Elmwood Place, Ohio.

James Edward Roy, 72, of Danville, died Sunday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington.
He was a partner in Danville Wholesale Co., an administrator for McDowell Home Health Care in Danville, and a past president of the Danville Rotary Club.
