Mary Jean Halloran, devoted hospital volunteer
Mary Jean Halloran, a volunteer for St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, was remembered by hospital staff long after she retired as director of volunteer services.
Mrs. Halloran volunteered for 21 years at the hospital, working her way into the paid position of director.
"She enjoyed people and was a very generous and giving person," said her sister, Janice Miller of Springfield Township in Hamilton County, Ohio.
Mrs. Halloran, 73, of Bellevue, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday at St. Luke.
In addition to her generous and outgoing nature, Mrs. Halloran was an extremely or ganized person, said her daughter, Kathy Almoslechner of Bellevue. That helped her deal with patients and families in emergency situations.
"In an emergency situation, they're in a very different situation than they're used to, and it's nice to have someone explain things," her daughter said.
Mrs. Halloran was active at St. Anthony's Church in Bellevue, where she was baptized and continued as a lifelong member. She also was past president of the Campbell Lodge Boys Home.
Her husband, Robert Halloran, died in the 1960s, and she never remarried.
Mrs. Halloran loved to play bridge and belonged to several bridge clubs.
Other survivors include another sister, Shirlee Dennis of Cincinnati; and one grandchild.
