Carpenter, Lola Mae
Lola Mae Carpenter 60, of Indianapolis, died peacefully in her home on the evening of Wednesday, August 2, 2006.
She was born in Bell County, Kentucky on April 5, 1946.
Lola never met a stranger.
She was a kind and generous person to her family and friends, who will miss her very much.
She was the loving wife of Eulos "Gene" Carpenter, her husband of 43 years; devoted mother to her daughter Sherry (son-in-law Bob) Sprong; and sons Fred (daughter-in-law Mariann) and Scott (daughter-in-law Elise) Carpenter; daughter of Hester Vaughn and grandmother of Jessica Sprong, Emily, Benjamin and Mason Carpenter. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Carter, Thea O.
EAST PINEVILLE — Rev. Thea O. Carter, 92, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.
He was born February 3, 1916, in Walnut Grove, Ky., to the late Henry Carter and Elizabeth Howard Carter.
He began preaching at the age of 14 and had continued to preach for 78 years until his death.
He had pastored, preached and built many churches, and also ordained many ministers.
Also, he had preached thousands of funerals, kept a diary of his life, and had written four books.
In addition he had preached numerous services all over the world.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was his loving wife, Thelma Carter; and a son, Charles Edward Carter.
Survivors include the following: his loving daughter, Patty Baker, Barbourville, Ky.; three wonderful grandchildren, Rev. John (Jennifer) Carter, Pineville, Savannah (Jake) Hampton, Hulen, and Isaac Baker, Barbourville, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Caleb Carter, Pineville, and Elijah Hampton, Hulen; and a host of friends, neighbors and relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Molus Pentecostal Church with the Rev. John Carter, the Rev. Ernest Brock and other ministers he had known presiding. Music will be provided by Betty Jean Robinson.
Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David Rice, Danny Daniels, Eddie Houston, Mark Maharin, Glen Wilson, Roy Simpson, Bobby Grubbs, and Jackie Hoskins.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Brock, Dr. Steven Morgan, Otis Hoskins, Gaston Rose, Lil Joe Simpson and Raymond Rose.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Molus Pentecostal Church.
Open church service will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Molus Pentecostal Church.
Everyone is welcomed to attend.

Collett, Emily Lefevers
Mrs. Emily Lefevers Collett of Pineville, Ky., passed away Wednesday, September 11, 1974 in the Pineville Community Hospital.
She was born in Bell County, daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Howard Hoskins.
She was preceded in death by four children.
Survivors include her husband, W.H. Collett of Pineville; three sons, Morris Lefevers of Middlesboro, Elmer Lefevers of Flat Lick, Ky., and George Lefevers of Pineville; three sisters, Mrs. Barry L. Howard of Lexington, Ky., Morris Saylor of Harlan, Ky., and Mrs. Gene Mastin of Cumberland, Ky., 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the first Baptist Church in Pineville with the Rev. W.B. Bingham, the Rev. Ray Collett, the Rev. Charles F. Jones and the Rev. Gabriel Howard officiating.
Burial was in the Pineville Memorial cemetery.

Collett, Vesta Jane
KETTLE ISLAND - Our loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Vesta Jane Collett, went home to be with her Lord and Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006.
Born March 22, 1933, at Stoney Fork, she was the daughter of the late Perl V. and Florence Brock.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Brock Lasley; her brother-in-law, Ronnie Sharp; her sister-in-law, Janie Carol Brock, and her husband of 33 years, Vernon L. Collett Sr.
She is survived by her four sons and their wives, Vernon and Pam, Rodney and Debbie, Dennis and Jamie, and Scott and Sara.
She was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Mark and wife Susan, Heather and husband Scott, Joshua, Jeremy, Kelsey, Ryan, Benjamin, Peyton, and Nathan; and four great-grandchildren: Hunter, Isaac, Hannah and Jared. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters: Al Brock, John Brock, Gwen Sharp, Brenda Jones and husband Ronnie, Linda Redmond, Judy Rice and husband James, Mickey Wilder and husband Ted. Survivors also include her uncles, Pearl, Ernest, Larry, and Homer Brock. Also left to mourn her passing is a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends as well as the students of Right Fork School who loved her dearly.
A lifelong, devoted member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, she sang in the choir, and she loved to share her testimony and faith through music and singing with her family.
She had been a member of the gospel singing group, The Believers for many years.
She also taught in the Bell County School System for 42 years, touching the lives of hundreds of children for generations.
Since her retirement in 1995, she continued her dedication by serving as a substitute teacher.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Mill Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Travis Wilder presiding.
Music will be provided by Benny Howard, Jim Miracle, Barry Barton, and the Rev. Demus Couch.
Burial will follow in the Brock Family cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Albey Brock, Bill Brock, Eric Brock, Robert Caruso, Scott Chapman, Todd Green, Tim Lasley, Greg Lasley, Eddie Leisge, Charles Ramey, Keith Rice, Jeff Whitehead, and Eric Woolum. Honorary pallbearers include the men of Mill Creek Baptist Church and her cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Mill Creek Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mill Creek Christian Academy in memory of Vesta Collett.

Taylor, Nelda Carothers
Nelda Carothers Taylor, 79, of Pineville, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Pineville Community Hospital.
She was born in Selmer, TN on September 11, 1928, a daughter of the late Hoyte and Alliene "Bobbie" Prather Carothers.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Pineville where she had served on various committees and as treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and President of the United Methodist Women.
Nelda was an active member of the community being a member of the Junior Women’s Club, PTA and the Mountain Laurel Garden Club, she served in many capacities, including President of each club.
She was also active with the Mountain Laurel Festival where she served as Chairman and Co-Chairman and served on various committees.
Nelda had been an Executive Secretary for a Medical Office, Legal Office and an Investment Company.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a special sister-in-law, Virginia Taylor.
Survivors include her husband since January 28, 1949, Dr. Leo Taylor, son, Scott Taylor and wife, Krissy of Bowling Green, KY, daughter, Ginger Norris and husband, Dr. Terry Norris of Owensboro, KY; grandchildren, Lee Karl Gilbert of Breckinridge, CO, Timothy Scott Gilbert and wife, Kate of Bowling Green, KY and Casey Leigh Taylor of Sydney, Australia; brother, Hoyte Carothers and wife, Sherry of Clinton, MS; special friend and brother-in-law, Clint Taylor and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Information: Memorial services will be on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Pineville, with Rev. Albert Hughes.
Special music will be by Annette Walden, Mickey Wilder and Bryan Robbins.

TAYLOR, Paul Sr.
Age 82, of Hamilton passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Birchwood Care Center, Hamilton.
preceded in death by his loving wife Betty; son, Paul Jr.; parents, William & Anna (Lowe) Taylor; sisters, Beatty LeFever and Bernice Miller.
Survived by his sons, Paul (Sandy) Taylor of Fairfield, Darrell Taylor of Ross, Jerry (Cecilia) Taylor of Lynchburg and Robert Taylor of Hamilton; daughters, Margaret (Billy) Rainey of TN, Rhonda (Gordon) Boster of Columbus and Edith (Jamie) Moore of IN; sister, Dorothy Powell of KY.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 AM- 1 PM at Kowalk Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Road, Hamilton.
Funeral services will begin 1 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Hamilton.

Taylor, Ruth Smith
STRAIGHT CREEK - Ruth Smith Taylor, 73, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at her home in Straight Creek.
She was born at Cary on Aug. 25, 1932, the daughter of the late Elbert Smith and Dora Cornett Smith Browning. Having been a homemaker, she was a very loving wife and mother to her family. She was also a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy at Cary.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant son and an infant daughter, sister, Virginia Hensley, brothers, Frank Thomas "FT" and Benton Smith, granddaughter, April Cox, grandsons, Mark Lefevers and Michael Cox.
Survivors include her husband of whom she married
on July 14, 1946, Howard Taylor of Straight Creek; children, Billy and Barbara Taylor of Straight Creek, Dolly Jean Taylor of Straight Creek, Diane Cox of Straight Creek, Virginia and Glenn Lefevers of Gray, Ky., Christine and Ricky Daniels of Straight Creek, Mary Ann and Mark Hensley of Straight Creek and Robert and Joann Taylor of Straight Creek; grandchildren, Penny and Allen Smith, Lora Lefevers and Tim Hickman, Julie Daniels and Rodney Gibson, Clint and Carrie Lefevers, Brad and Ashley Lefevers, Nora Cox, Dustin Hensley, Heather Hensley, Courtney Cox, Jessica Cox, Madison Taylor, Luke Taylor and Jacob Taylor; great-grandchildren, Nathan Lefevers and Chase Lefevers; special brothers-in-law, Willard and Roscoe Taylor; special sisters-in-law, Dolly Grubb, Ethel Taylor Mary Watts and Alice Taylor and a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her church family.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Lord, the Rev. Custer Watts, the Rev. Jimmy Smith and the Rev. Marshall Reynolds officiating. Music will be from Edith Griffin, Lonnie Smith, Allen Lord and Custer Watts.
Burial will be in the Farley cemetery at Himyar. Pallbearers are Brad Lefevers, Clint Lefevers, Allen Smith, Tim Hickman, Rodney Watts and David Taylor. Honorary pallbearers are William Nunley, Woodrow Hensley, Montana Hensley, Elbert Smith, Eugene Smith, Lonnie Smith, L.B. Evans, Dustin Hensley, Phillip Watts, Bobby Watts and Howard Watts.

Cox, Norma Jean Beverly
PINEVILLE - Norma Jean Beverly Cox, 72, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2004, at her home.
She was born in Blanche on September 12, 1932, the daughter of the late Latimore and Nora Honeycutt Beverly.
She had been a homemaker and was a member of Arjay Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded death by her husband of 38 years, Earnest "Buster" Cox, sons, George Otis and Jackie Marcus Cox, sisters, Rosella, Nellie and Mable Beverly and sisters-in law, Vernie and Brenda Geraldine Beverly.
Survivors include her children, Margaret Ann Cox of Middlesboro, Joe William Cox of Pineville and David Colson and Janice Cox of Van Wert, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ida and Queen Smith of Crestline, Ohio, Herbert and Nancy Beverly of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Hugh Beverly of Zanesville, Ohio, and Doris and Bill Echmann of Pineville; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Poore and Bishop Custer Watts officiating.
Music will be by Becky Cox.
Burial will be in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro.
