Mary Scott Collins
Mary Scott Collins, age 81, of Prestonsburg, formerly of Martin County passed away Monday, August 11, 2008 at Kings Daughters in Ashland. She is survived by three sons, William, Carl, and Dwayne Collins; and three daughters, Margie Maynard, Madge May and Pearlie Robinson. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced on Tuesday.
Reba Hale Harmon
Reba Hale Harmon, age 82, of Pilgrim passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008 at her home. Born March 2, 1926 in Chattaroy, she was the daughter of the late Boyd Hale and Bertha Estepp Hale. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Homer Harmon. Reba is survived by her husband, James A. Harmon; three sons, David Harmon of Ohio, Donnie and Jackie Harmon both of Pilgrim; three daughters, Patty Chisholm of Vista, California, Betty Green and Rhonda Mounts both of Pilgrim; two sisters, Mildred Cline of Paintsville and Roubena Staten of Pilgrim; three brothers, Robert Hale of Ironton, James and Johnny Hale both of Pilgrim; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Union United Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Harmon Family cemetery on Emily Creek. Friends may visit the church after 6:00 PM Sunday and all day Monday. Woodrow Nichols and Terry Harmon will officiate.
Kenneth Edward Runyon
Kenneth Edward Runyon, age 59, of Inez passed away Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Highland Regional in Prestonsburg. Born May 21, 1949 in Lawrence County, he was the son of the late Chester Runyon and Beatrice Laney. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Mahon Runyon; one step son, Roy Maynard; one step daughter, Candy Maynard; three brothers, Robert (Mary) Runyon, Chester (Judy) Runyon and Jimmy Ray Runyon all of Inez; three sisters, Evelyn (Arthur) Castle of Inez, Faye Runyon of Inez and Joyce Castle of Lovely; and two grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday, August 18, 2008 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Runyon Family cemetery at Inez. Friends may visit the funeral home from 5-10 PM Saturday and from 5-10 Sunday. Brumley Marcum will officiate.
Ira Maynard
Ira Maynard, age 63, of Inez passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Highland Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg. Born December 18, 1944 in Martin County, he was the son of the late Frank Maynard and Lizzie Jude. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Lyons; and one grand daughter, Katilynn Preston. He is survived by one son, Ira Lee Maynard of Kermit; one daughter, Kathy Preston of Tomahawk; one brother, Bruce Maynard of Inez; two sisters, Margie Block of Prestonsburg and Christine Sammons of Columbus; and six grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Moore Family cemetery at Inez. Friends may visit the funeral home from 5-10 PM Monday and all day Tuesday. Lonnie Ratliff will officiate.
Molly Matthew
Molly Matthew, age 59, of Debord passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Highland Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg. Born March 25, 1949 in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Clifton Cline and Gladie Crum. Molly is survived by her husband, Robert Matthew; two sons, Michael Matthew of Debord and Bryan Keith Matthew of Columbus; two daughters, Pamela Jean Wright of Garrett, KY and Jessica Pinson of Debord; one brother, Harold Porter of Debord; two sisters, Shelby Jean Hurley of Crossville, TN and Gail Cline of Debord; and eleven grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez with burial to follow in the Matthew Family cemetery at Debord. Friends may visit the funeral home from 5-10 PM Sunday and all day Monday. Kevin Davis will officiate.
CELIA MOORE
CELIA MOORE, AGE 90, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, FORMERLY OF MARTIN COUNTY, passed away THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2008. CELIA WAS SUMMONED BY ALMIGHTY GOD AT 5:29 PM WHEN HE READ HER NAME FROM THE BOOK OF LIFE AND CALLED HER HOME TO PARADISE, THE CURSE OF DEATH AND PHYSICAL PAIN WERE ABOLISHED AS SHE WAS TRANSLATED INTO GLORY AND WAITING ARMS OF HER LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST CELIA’S LIFE WAS A GIFT TO THE WORLD FROM GOD. SOME CHRISTIANS CARRY ONLY A SMALL SPARK OF LOVE WITHIN THEM WHILE HERS WAS A RAGING FIRE. SHE WAS COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO HERSELF SEEING ONLY THE NEEDS OF OTHERS WHILE SHE SERVED THEM AS A WILLING VESSEL OF GODS LOVE AND GRACE. WITHIN EACH PERSON SHE TOUCHED, A PART OF HER FIRE WAS TRANSMITTED TO THEM AND THE WORLD IS FILLED WITH LIGHT BECAUSE OF HER OBEDIENCE TO GOD. Wayne Horn
Wayne Horn, age 74, of Boonescamp passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008 evening at his home. Born April 29, 1934 in Estill County, he was the son of the late John Wesley Horn and Mary Elizabeth Spivey. In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Elkins Horn; two sisters, Theda Henry and Elizabeth Puckett. He is survived by his wife, Sue Webb Horn; one son, Timothy Wayne Horn of Flowery Branch, Georgia; three daughters, Tanya Joseph of Mt. Sterling, KY, Janine Voros of Winchester, KY and Rebecca Murphy of Lebanon, Junction, KY; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
A Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home. By the request of the family, there will be no visitation. Dan Heaberlin will officate. In Lieu of flowers, contributions, can be made to Appalachian Hospice or the Williamsport Volunteer Fire Department.
Doris Carmeans
Doris Carmeans, age 77, of Van Lear passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Highland Regional in Prestonsburg. Born April 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Lewis and Elizabeth (Babe) Crum. Doris is survived by her husband, Bill Carmeans; one son, Ricky Carmeans of Ohio; three daughters, Nena McCoart of Staffordsville, Diane Cochran of Oil Springs and Rita Preston of Paintsville; two brothers, Paul and Bobby Lewis both of Indiana; two sisters, Aretta Branham and Betty Crum both of Boonscamp; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Friends may visit the funeral home from 5-10 PM Sunday. Jimmy Price and Paul Wayne Browning will officiate.
Carl Douglas Spears
Carl Douglas Spears, age 82, of Paintsville passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 at Highland Regional in Prestonsburg. Born October 27, 1925 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Russell Spears and Madge Crace Spears. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Harold and Russell Spears, Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Blankenship of Paintsville and Penny Sue Gasparac of Lanexa, Virginia; two sons, Carl Douglas Spears, Jr. of Kannapalis, North Carolina and Monty Timothy Spears of Raleigh, North Carolina; one brother, Clarence Spears of Columbus; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3 PM Monday, October 6, 2008 at the First Freewill Baptist Church on Third Street with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville. Friends may visit the funeral home from 3PM - 10 PM Sunday. Larry Blair will officate.
James (J.T.) Smith
James (J.T.) Smith, age 39, of Inez passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 at his home in Inez. Born January 30, 1969 in Johnson County, he was the son of James Smith and the late Nollis Cassady Smith. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by a son, Andrew Smith. In addition to his father, J.T. is survived by one son, John Cameron Smith of Inez; two daughters, Tawny Andreana Smith and Kimberleigh Holliann Ariel (Holli) Smith both of Inez; and two brothers, Terry L. Smith and Mitchell Smith both of Inez.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, October 5, 2008 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Cassady Family cemetery on Coldwater. Friends may visit the funeral home from 5-10 PM Friday and from 5-10 PM on Saturday. Kenny Preece, Glenn Penix and Gene Burnette will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home, Inez.
Ernest Small
Ernest Small, age 88, of Inez passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Cabell Huntington. Born February 11, 1920 in Martin County, he was the son of the late Frank and Sadie Preece Small. Ernest is survived by his wife, Nevel Small; and two sons, Billy Small and Lemuel Small both of Columbus.
A Grave Side Service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in the Obetz cemetery in Columbus. There will be no local visitation.
