Margaret Maxine Parsons, 74, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born October 5, 1934 in Fort Gay, W.Va. a daughter of the late Calvin and Cordia Blevins Damron. She was a housewife. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Damron Jr. and Garland Damron; one sister, Delehia Damron.
Survivors include, one daughter, Deborah Jobe of Louisa, Ky.; five sons, David Parsons Jr., Dale Parsons, Donald Parsons, Roger Parson all of Louisa, Ky. and Michael Parsons of Medina, Ohio.; five sisters, Ruby Fagert of Creston, Ohio; Gladys Wilson of Mansfield, Ohio; Lucille Shrader of Bellville, Ohio; Wanda Pratt of Mount Gielda, Ohio; arid Carol Lendon of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother, Timmy Damron of Delaware, Ohio; 10 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Maynard and Rev. Willie Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at the Hamilton cemetery in Fort Gay, W. Va .. Visitation will be 3 :00 til 9:00 pm Friday at Young Funeral; Home in Louisa, Ky.
Homer Drexel Short
1925-2008
Homer Drexel Short, age 83, of Louisa, Ky., died Dec. 16, 2008 in Louisa.
Mr. Short was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Louisa, a son of the late Andrew Jackson Short and Lucy Elkins Short.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Willliam “Bill” Thomas Short; and three sisters, Agnes Saulsbury, Mae Ekers and Eileen Woods.
He was a retired area supervisor with Ashland Oil. He was a Kentucky colonel, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and a member of Louisa United Methodist Church in Louisa and Apperson F&AM 195.
Surviving are his wife, Edris Fern C. Short of Louisa; three sons, Michael Ray (Joy) Short of Jakarta, Indonesia, Roger Jack (Yvette) Short of Louisa and Homer Drexel Short Jr. of Charleston, W.Va.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Louisa United Methodist Church in Louisa by the Rev. Guy Moyer. Burial will be in Compton cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Young Funeral Home in Louisa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Louisa United Methodist Church Building Fund or Community Hospice.
Richard "Ricky" Lee McKenzie
1951 - 2008
Richard "Ricky" Lee McKenzie, 57, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Monday, December 8, 2008 at his home. He was born May 24, 1951 in Kenova, W.Va. a son of Loretha Gayle Frazier McKenzie and the late Merman McKenzie. He was a Mason.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his loving wife Roberta Spence McKenzie of Louisa, Ky.; one daughter, Jennifer Febish of Lexington, Ky.; one step daughter, Barbie Cochran of Louisa, Ky.; one son, Jason Richard McKenzie ofFt. Lewis, Washington.; three step sons, Shawn Helms of Columbus, Ohio; Christopher Tyler Marcum and Nathan Marcum both of Louisa, Ky.; one sister, Lisa Booth of Paintsville, Ky.; one brother, Merman McKenzie of Louisa, Ky. 7 Grandchildren.
Ricky was a well known brick mason in the area having been one of the first hired to build the Lawrence County High School and several other major projects.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 :00 am Thursday at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ric Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at the Frazier cemetery at East Lynn, W.Va. Visitation will be Wednesday 6:00 til 9:00 at Young Funeral Home.
Kenneth Mills
1935-2008
Kenneth Mills, 73, of 201 Cub Lane, Catlettsburg, Ky. died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. after a short illness.
DoneMr. Mills was born at Turkey Creek, Ky. in Martin County, the son of Virgil Mills and Lutie Dalton Mills, both deceased. He was a career coal miner at Peter Cave Coal Co. of Lovely, Ky. until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruth Evelyn Hogston Mills, three daughters, Debbie (Alan) See, Zelda, Ky., Sandra Moore, Trenton, Ill., and Teresa (Tim) Tompkins, Melbourne, Fla. Two sons, Clinton (Beverly) Mills, Louisa, and Kenneth (Rhonda) Mills, Groveport, Ohio.
He was also survived by two brothers, Delmar and John Mills, both of Inez, Ky. and three sisters, Reba Bush, Louisa, Ky., Wanda (Bill) Cassady, Fallsburg, Ky., Willadean Jacobson, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Young Funeral Home in Louisa from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday with family mmbers only at 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Young Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2008 with Bro. John Taylor of Inez, Ky. conducting the services.
Herbert Rice
(1935-2008)
Herbert Coy Rice, 73, of Louisa died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at his residence. He was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Olive Hill, a son of the late Myrtle France Rice and Roy Rice. He was retired from Inco Alloys and a member of Cherryville Missionary Baptist Church.
He also was preceded in death by a sadly missed grandson, James “Adam” Sammons; two brothers, Charles Rice and George Rice; and two sisters, Nora Rice Patterson and Bobbie Rice Miller.
Survivors include four daughters, Vickie (Dave) Sammons, Teresa (Johnny) Pannell, Renee (Matthew) Shannon, all of Louisa, and Beverly (Barry) Workman of Ashland; seven grandchildren, Amy (Marty) Peck, John (Jennifer) Pannell, Cindi Pannell, Megan Sammons, all of Louisa, David (Holly) Sammons of Paintsville, Paula (Russell) Hehn of Aberdeen, S.D., and Kevin (Alisha) Workman of Lexington; and eight great-grandchildren, Haleigh and Dylan Peck, David Sammons, Kiersten and Kara Pannell, Jeremy and Emilee Hehn and Riley Sammons.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Young’s Funeral Home in Louisa with Brother John Haney officiating. Burial will be in Wallace cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Shirley May
(1936-2009)
Shirley Roseanna Moore May, 73, of Louisa, died Wednesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born April 1, 1936, in Marysville, Ohio.
Her husband, Paul William May, survives.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church in Rush. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Louisa.

Hope Meeks
1931-2009
Hope Cook Meeks, 78, of Louisa, died Tuesday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born Oct. 24, 1931, in Tadpole.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harold Doss Cook in 1971 and Ballard Meeks in 1988.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Louisa.

Carl Pack Jr.
(1928-2009)
Carl Pack Jr., 81, of Louisa, Ky., died June 28, 2009, in Louisa.
Mr. Pack was born May 22, 1928, at Job, Ky., a son of the late Carl Pack and Effie Thompson Pack.
In addition, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Pack, and a brother, Thomas Pack.
He was a heavy-equipment operator with Wolf Creek Collieries and a member of First Baptist Church in Louisa and Apperson Lodge 195, F&AM. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Brown Pack of Louisa; a daughter, Kathy Hinkle of Louisa; a son, Gregory Pack of Louisa; a sister, Greta Maynard of Inez, Ky.; a brother, Doug Pack of Groveport, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Julia Rollins of Louisa and Alex Pack of Owensboro, Ky.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Louisa by Brother Ric Frazier, Jason Hutchinson and Elder John Goble. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Louisa.

Sylvia Eldridge
1944-2009
Sylvia Jean Eldridge, 65, of Martha, died Monday at her residence.
She was born Jan. 16, 1944, in Martha. Her husband, Kendrick Eldridge, died in 2005.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Elizabeth Baptist Church. Burial will be in Hayes cemetery in Martha.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today and anytime Wednesday at the church.

Homer N. Burchett
(1923-2009)
Homer N. Burchett of Louisa, Ky., passed away June 16, 2009.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Susan F. Morgan Burchett.He was born Oct. 25, 1923, in Claiborne County, Tenn.He will be remembered as an outstanding Christian, husband, father, friend and Bible scholar. He was a retired Baptist pastor who served churches in Kentucky and Florida. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Gay Burchett.
He is also survived by daughters Joy (Dave) Marcum of Lexington, Ky., Hope (Larry) Stone of Florence, Ky., Faith (Ric) Frazier of Louisa and Dawn (Jeff) Keith of London, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of appreciative friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, June 18, 2009, at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Louisa. Interment will be in Johnson Family cemetery in Whitley County, Ky.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church, 301 W. Pike St., Louisa, KY 41230.
