Margaret Stovall Davies

HAWESVILLE - We honor and celebrate the life of Margaret Stovall Davies of Eustis, Fla., formerly of Hawesville. Margaret was born in Allen County on March 5, 1929, and passed peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, with her husband and children at her side. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mabel Palmer and Noble E. Stovall; and her brother, Robert Stovall. She was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College and taught school for 20 years at Hawesville Elementary School and was a member of Hawesville United Methodist Church. We honor her as a woman of grace, dignity and strength with a caring and generous spirit. Though her spirit has gone on, her shining example of unconditional love lives on. She was a beautiful woman, devoted wife, generous mother, doting grandmother, caring niece and aunt and thoughtful friend. She is deeply honored, highly regarded and will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched. Margaret was a talented artist and gifted writer. She was an advocate of human rights and all things environmental. She had a special place in her heart for Anthony House of Zellwood, Fla., and the Orlando (Fla.) Union Rescue Mission.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles E., Sr.; a son, Charles E., Jr. and Jill of Oakland City, Ind.; daughters, Emily Boling and Wayne of Owensboro, Krista of Orlando and Lynelle Blankenship and Chuck of Zellwood; and beloved aunt, Ida Nell Tabor of Eustis. She was Nana to her adoring grandchildren, Charles III (Chip) and Carrie, Leann Boling Crosby and Todd, Kirk Hayes, Sarah Davies, Will Blankenship and special great-granddaughter Elizabeth LeAnn Davies. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a special friend, Cindy Stump.

The celebration of Margaret's life will be held at Gibson & Son Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, with the Rev. Howard Willen officiating. Burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery in Louisville with a 1:30 p.m. graveside service. Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

Claire Gibson Muster

CALHOUN - Claire Gibson Muster, 78, of Calhoun died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at the Riverside Manor Health Care Center in Calhoun. Claire Marie Gibson was born Oct. 16, 1926, in McLean County to the late Fred and Bess Stiles Gibson and was later married to John W. Muster III on July 5, 1943. Claire was a homemaker and served as a Kentucky licensed funeral director for more than 45 years with Muster Funeral Homes of Calhoun and Livermore, working with her husband, Bill, in caring for the many families that they served. While her husband served in World War II, Claire assisted her mother-in-law, Eunice, in operating the funeral home and countywide ambulance service. She was a member of the Calhoun Christian Church and the Capt. William Rowan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Claire enjoyed gardening, horses and, most of all, sharing fond memories of McLean County with all of those around her. Her greatest pleasure was giving comfort or encouragement to the families of her community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John W. Muster III, on Nov. 17, 2004.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, John W. Muster IV and Susan and Michael Muster and Dee Ann, all of Calhoun; four grandchildren, John W. Muster V and his wife, Adrianna, Lee M. Muster and his wife, Elizabeth, Kendel M. Muster and Holly M. Muster, all of Calhoun; a niece, Whayne Ann Crick Badgett of Madisonville; and two great-nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel, with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Friends may visit with the Muster family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until time of services Friday at Musters in Calhoun.

The Muster family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Muster Funeral Homes, Memorial Scholarship Fund, McLean County High School, P.O. Box 160, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.

Eleanor Ann Knight

LAKE NEBAGAMON, Wis. - Eleanor Ann Knight, 66, of Lake Nebagamon passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at her home. Eleanor was born on March 24, 1939, in Owensboro to the late Samuel and Margaret (Church) Jackson. Eleanor was employed at G.E. and Gabe's Restaurant in Owensboro for several years. She then was deputy of the Marin County Sheriff's Department in California for 10 years. Eleanor moved back to Kentucky and worked for LaGrange State Penitentiary as a guard for several years. She then retired in the Lake Nebagamon area to be by family. A special thank you to all the people at Phoenix Villa in Lake Nebagamon who became her friends and a part of her family.

Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her two sons, Dale Sapp of Maple, Wis., and Dennis Sapp of California; three grandchildren, Shane, Violet and Alisha; a brother, William Jackson of Kentucky; a sister, Betty Meadows of Kentucky; and many nephews and nieces.

Private family services will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 8, at Rose Hill-Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. The Brown Funeral Home in Solon Springs, Wis., is assisting the family with arrangements.

John K. Pleacher

John K. Pleacher, 80, of Owensboro, formerly of Falls Church, Arlington and Williamsburg, Va., and Falling Waters, W.Va., died Oct. 10, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System.

He was the son of the late Henry J, and Martha H. Pleacher. He rose to captain in the U.S. Air Force and served as a navigator, bombardier and radar observer during World War II. Mr. Pleacher was a graduate of George Washington University (AB) and American University (MA), both in Washington, D.C. His career in education was served in Arlington County, Va., where he began teaching at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School, moved to assistant principal of Claude M. Swanson Junior High School and then to principal of Brandon, Gunston and Kenmore junior high schools. He returned to the classroom at Kenmore Junior High School in 1975 and was selected as the Virginia state teacher of the year for 1984. Mr. Pleacher was the first recipient of the George Washington University School of Education and Human Development Dean's Special Achievement Award in Teaching and was one of the first teachers to receive the Washington Post's Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award. While teaching, Mr. Pleacher also served as school probation counselor for the Arlington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and taught mathematics in summer school for the University of Virginia. Upon retirement, he served as an evaluator for Virginia's Beginning Teacher Assistance Program and later served as an historical interpreter for Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He also volunteered as court manager for the Ninth District Court Service Unit in Williamsburg. He was a volunteer in the registration-admissions office of City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., and had presently been volunteering in the cardiac unit at OMHS.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Isabel (Kay) Pleacher, at home; two sons, David H. Pleacher of Stephens City, Va., and John R. Pleacher of Pine Knob; three grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Cotter of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Michael David Pleacher of Salt Lake City and Sarah Catherine Harding of Fort Collins, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, June P. Roth and Margaret E. Pleacher.

Mr. Pleacher was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Owensboro and formerly served as president of the congregation of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Falls Church, where he and his wife were sponsors for the young people's Luther League Program for seven years. He was dean of boys for two years for the leadership training program of the American Lutheran Church held at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, with Father Pat Connell officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 720 Ford Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301-4632, the Memorial Fund, Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, MD 21795, or to Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, P.O. Box 1776, Williamsburg, VA 23187-1776. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of local arrangements.

Patricia Allen Dumont

Patricia Allen Dumont, 76, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005. Patsy was born in Stanley and was a 1946 graduate of Daviess County High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Jessie Miller. Patsy was a retired customer service/business representative with BellSouth in Owensboro.

She loved her family, church, her Homemakers Club, and her Pioneer Friends from BellSouth. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, and a lifelong resident of Owensboro. Most recently she had been living with her family in Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Leo Dumont; sons Mike and wife Vicki Dumont of Southlake, Texas, Jerry and wife Cindy Dumont of Grapevine, Texas, and Rick and wife Becky Dumont of Marietta, Ga. She had four grandchildren, Matt, Jeremy, Nick and Avery Dumont; two sisters, Stella Neel of Evansville, Ruth Reisz of Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Don Miller of Owensboro; two sisters-in-law, Julia Hartsuiker of Bedford, Texas, and Margaret Ruth Miller of Owensboro.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

The family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home, Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. David Nelson at Glenn Funeral Home chapel on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation on Saturday prior to services.

Claude Wilson Green

GREENVILLE - Claude Wilson Green, 89, of 2499 Elk Pond Creek Road, Greenville, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at 7:12 p.m. at Owensboro Medical Health System, following several days' illness. He was born Dec. 2, 1915, in Muhlenberg County, the son of Carl Green and Edith Murphy Green. He was a retired plumber and farmer in the Greens Chapel community. He was a member of Greens Chapel General Baptist Church and a 60-year member of Orphaned Friend Masonic Lodge No. 523 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louella Peterson Green, on Jan. 31, 1992, and his second wife, Bernice "Bernie" Edith L. Lile Green, on Sept. 1, 2001.

He is survived by several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville, by the Rev. Robert Fulcher and the Rev. Walter Evitts. Burial will be in Greens Chapel cemetery in Greenville. Masonic services will be conducted at 7 tonight at the funeral home. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Hattie Page Glenn

MURRAY - Mrs. Hattie Page Glenn, 94, of Murray, formerly of Louisville, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Westview Nursing Home in Murray. Born in Graves County, a daughter of the late Marion W. and Era Maud Hammon Page, Mrs. Glenn attended Western Kentucky University and received her AB degree from the University of Kentucky and her master's from the University of Louisville, where she also died postgraduate work. A teacher and administrator in the Jefferson County Public School System for 47 years, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Murray and Second Presbyterian Church in Louisville, both of which she served as an elder. She was also a member of the Speed Museum, the Louisville Women's Club and was a docent with the Louisville Zoo. Mrs. Glenn was a member of the Murray Country Club, the Rose and Garden Club and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. The Hattie Glenn classroom in Alexander Hall at Murray State University was dedicated to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry David Glenn; and her brothers, George L. Page and Ted W. Page.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Curry and her husband, Ronald, of Wilmington, Del.; her grandchildren, David H. Curry of Columbus, Ohio, and Catherine A. Edge and her husband, Robert, of Newark, Del.; her great-grandchild, Austin S. Edge of Newark; her sister, Beth Belote and husband, Jack, of Murray; and several nieces and nephews, including Rachel Coots Thacker and Lucy Glenn Taylor of Owensboro.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Murray. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro, where a service of committal will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Arthur Delman Cowgell Jr.

Arthur Delman Cowgell Jr., 95, of 2701 Frederica St., Owensboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at Harborside Nursing Facility in Owensboro. Born in Livermore, a son of the late Arthur Delman and Leona Sumner Cowgell, he retired as president of Real Electric Co., was a member of First Baptist Church and the Maverick Sunday school class, a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve, a 32nd-degree Mason and member of Masonic Lodge No. 130 F&AM, a Shriner and an admiral of Kentucky waterways.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Dena Hodges Cowgell, his daughters, Joy Jenkins and Jane Hocker, both of Owensboro, and Donna Johnson and Patti Mulloy, both of Louisville; his grandchildren, Pamela Jackson, Tammy Bradley, Christopher Faith, Cynthia Cambron, Dr. Laurence Cambron, James Howard Jr., Charles Stevenson, Ridley Sandidge III and Lane Sandidge; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home, with Dr. David Nelson and the Rev. Clarence Nemitz officiating, where visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, and after 11 a.m. Saturday. Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. today. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the charity of one's choice.

Kathy Apperson

HARDINSBURG - Kathy Apperson, 60, of Hardinsburg died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was a homemaker and attended St. Romuald Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Apperson; her mother, Phyllis Thorne; seven children, Angie Patterson, Chris Hooper, Wendy Bloomfield, Holly Jarboe, Jacob and Greg Apperson and Amy Beard; and three brothers, Mike, Pat and Jeff Thorne.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Romuald Catholic Church in Hardinsburg. Burial: St. Romuald cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Memorial contributions: St. Romuald School.

Carl G. Sanders

Carl Gordon Sanders, 94, of Owensboro, formerly of Fort Branch Ind., died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on Sept. 19, 1911, to the late Grover and Maggie Sanders. A native of Carmi, Ill., he was a retired farmer and a lifelong member of New Liberty United Church of Christ in Cynthiana, Ind. He was a 1927 graduate of Carmi High School. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Roberta Benham Sanders, who died on June 22, 2002. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, a fan of Indiana University and Kentucky Wesleyan College basketball and all of the athletic teams at Gibson Southern High School, which he followed through the South Gibson Star-Times. Upon his retirement, he and Roberta traveled extensively throughout the United States and spent 14 winters in Florida. He was particularly proud of the New Liberty Neighborhood in which he lived and farmed and was equally proud of his 38-year business relationship with Emge Meat Packing Co.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Keith and Elissa Sanders, Vaughn and Karen Sanders, Steve and Sally Sanders of Owensboro and Dwight and Jan Sanders of Holland, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Ryan Sanders of Indianapolis, Ashley Sanders of Lexington, Kelly Sanders of Beaufort, S.C., Chris Sanders of Elizabethtown, Tiffany Sanders of Bloomington, Ind., Kelsey and Cody Sanders of Holland and Robert and Hillary of Owensboro; a sister-in-law, Bertalene Benham Cook of Owensboro; and a brother-in-law, Levitt Benham of Portland, Ore. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Stodghill Funeral Home on Highway 168 West in Fort Branch, with burial in Walnut Hill cemetery in Fort Branch. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
