Nannie Boswell Shadwick

Nannie Boswell Shadwick, 96, of Lewisport died at her home Saturday, July 23, 2005. She will be remembered as a teacher to many and a beloved friend. She was born June 27, 1909, in Daviess County. She retired from over 35 years of teaching in Hancock and Daviess counties, including some one-room schoolhouses. Schools included Cullen, Shyrock, Chestnut Grove and Pellville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Delmar "Doc" Shadwick; and by four siblings, Edgar, Ralph and Walter Boswell and sister Willia Brown.
She was a dedicated teacher who shared her love of gardening, cooking and relating local and personal history. She was also a devoted member of the Golden Years Quilting Club in Maceo. At her much beloved Bethlehem United Methodist Church, she taught Bible and Sunday school. Nannie was a longtime board member and secretary for the Yelvington Annual Campmeeting Revival.
Survivors include her daughter, Reba Carol Basinger and her husband Roger of Hawesville; grandchildren, Clint Basinger and Tonya Northenor and her husband Phillip; and her sister, Ruth Brown, all of Lewisport.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 8 a.m. to service time Monday. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Owensboro. George W. 'Ollie' Quinn

HAWESVILLE - George W. "Ollie" Quinn, 69, of Lewisport died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born April 23, 1936, to the late Michael and Nellie Veach Quinn. He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Michael Quinn; and a grandson, Philip Ray Quinn.
He was a member of the Lewisport Baptist Church and a graduate of Beechmont High School and the Kentucky School of Embalming. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and was employed by Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro and Gibson Funeral Home in Hawesville. He was elected Circuit Court Clerk of Hancock County in 1963. He also worked at Hancock Bank & Trust in Hawesville and Central Bank in Owensboro. For many years Ollie sold insurance for several companies. Preceding his death he was owner and operator of Quinn's Hardware in Lewisport.
He is survived by his fiancée, Opal Smith of Lewisport; a son, Monty, and his wife Noel of Hawesville; two grandchildren, Joseph and his wife Nicole of Lewisport and Jane Anne Quinn of Hawesville; a great-grandson, Gage Scott Quinn of Lewisport; two sisters, Rose Lee Shadwick and Onnora Stone, both of Owensboro; two brothers, Lawrence Quinn and Jim Quinn, both of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Ollie had a great personality and enjoyed being with his family, friends and his beloved pets. In his various occupations he always had a smile and extended a helping hand to everyone in need.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Lewisport Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Serenity Hills in Hawesville. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Gibson & Son Funeral Home and Monday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time at Lewisport Baptist Church. The family requests that any donations be made to Lewisport Baptist Church.
Chad Robert Petersen

Word has been received of the death of Chad Robert Petersen, 33, of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at First Baptist East, Lawton, Okla., with Tim Wheat, pastor of Colonial Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Greg Ligon, minister of adults, Colonial Baptist Church in Wichita Falls and Robbie Garber of Wichita Falls, officiating.
Mr. Petersen died Sunday, May 8th, 2005, in Wichita Falls in an ATV accident.
Burial was held at Flower Mound cemetery in Lawton under the direction of Becker Funeral Home in Lawton.
Chad was born Aug. 25, 1971, in Hartford, Conn., to D. Robert and Hariette S. (Hedges) Petersen. He graduated from Breckenridge County High School. He owned his own tile business and was known as "Chad the Tile Guy" in Wichita Falls. He played softball for the Believers and the Texas Reds. He attended Colonial Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. Chad loved Jesus, his beautiful daughters, his family, his church and his friends. He lived life to the fullest and wanted everyone to be happy. He would want to say to remember the good times and wants to see you all again someday in Heaven.
Survivors Include his wife, Stephanie Renee Petersen; two daughters, Brooklyn Taylor Petersen and Abby Marie Petersen; his parents, the Rev. Robert and Hariette Petersen of Lawton; sister, Holly Marie Wells and her husband Terry of Lawton; two nieces, Bethany Nicole Wells and Haylee Jae Wells, both of Lawton; two nephews, Ryan Wade Wells and Jordan Robert Wells, also both of Lawton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul William Petersen.

Mary Newman

Mary Newman, 87, of Greenville died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Bellemeade Nursing Home. She was born in Muhlenberg County on July 8, 1918, one of eight children of Frank Wesley Fitzhugh and Carrie Ola Welborn Fitzhugh. She was a devoted member of Carter Creek Church for more than 75 years. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings; her husband of 59 years, L.D. Newman; and her oldest son, Marl T. Newman.
She is survived by a son, Steve Newman of Greenville; a daughter, Marilyn Laster of Greenville; three in-laws she loved like her own, Faye Newman, Bud Laster and Debbie Newman, all of Greenville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 25, 2005, at 11 a.m. from Carter Creek Church by the Rev. Kevin Burden and the Rev. Blayne Hall. Burial will be held in the Carter Creek cemetery. Friends may call today between 5 and 8 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Charles Wendell Hulsey Jr.

Charles Wendell Hulsey Jr., 56, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Owensboro, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005. Charlie was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and had over 25 years experience in land planning, civil engineering and architecture. He was vice president and director of planning and landscape architecture for the WLB group. He was also a member and past board member of the Arizona Planning Association. Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wendell Hulsey III; and his parents, Charles Wendell Hulsey Sr. and Rose Alice Bristow Hulsey.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nancy White Hulsey; a son, Wesley Grant Hulsey, at home; one sister, Alice Shelton of Philpot; two brothers, Tom Hulsey of Philpot and Don Hulsey of Utica; and several nieces and nephews.

Arthur Lee Chandler

Arthur Lee Chandler, 66, of Greenville died Friday at 11:01 p.m. at Owensboro Medical Health System following a short illness. He was born in Muhlenberg County on Oct. 2, 1938, the son of Henry Clay Chandler and Gola F. Lear Chandler. He was a farmer in the Greenbriar Church neighborhood and attended Olive Grove General Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Chandler of Greenville; one son, Michael (Melissa) Chandler of Greenville; three grandchildren, Dustin Chandler, Brittany Chandler and Bailey Chandler, all of Greenville; one brother, Kenneth Chandler of Clifty; five sisters, Genevial Scott of Elkton, Barbara Wells of Lewisburg, Margie Wells of Greenville, Bonnie Wilson of Pembroke and Wanda Anderson of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 25, 2005, at 2 p.m. from Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville by the Rev. Richard Day. Burial will be in Greenbriar cemetery. Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Anna Lee Arnold Tyler

Anna Lee Arnold Tyler, 93, formerly of 107 E. 17th St., Owensboro, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born May 13, 1912, in Daviess County to the late Frank and Iva Lou (Berry) Arnold. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband at Sherman Tyler Brick Contractors Inc. She was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faithful Bible Study Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Tyler, on Sept. 28, 1976.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherlene Ann and Kenneth Maziarka of LaGrange, Ill.; two grandchildren, Pamela Ann (Joseph) Woith and Michael Tyler (Elizabeth) Maziarka; three great-grandchildren, Renae Sherlene Woith, Kyle Wesley Woith and Mason Edward Maziarka; two sisters, Edith Wilson and Geneva Gaddis, both of Owensboro; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Mount Zion Church cemetery in Daviess County. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. CLEATON - Jackie Wayne Smith, 60, of Cleaton died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He had worked as a laborer in coal mines.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Harris, Sherry Rust and April Mosley; two brothers, Eugene Smith and Sammy Smith; and two sisters, Dodie Evitts and Juanita Edwards.

Louie Mitchell Horn

Louie Mitchell Horn, 66, of Kentucky 1389, Owensboro, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1938, to the late Junius and James Goebel Roberts Horn in Daviess County. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator working with several local companies. He was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, Daviess County Fish and Game and enjoyed woodworking crafts, bingo, playing cards and sitting on his swing.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Harold Horn; two sisters, Maxine Keir and Betty Walker; and a grandson, Johnathon Dale Boyle.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Barbara Hamilton Horn; three sons, Edward Mitchell Horn and his wife Janet of Owensboro, Barry Dwayne Horn and his wife Brenda of Owensboro and Michael Ray Horn and his fiancee, Michelle Howard of Owensboro; three daughters, Bonnie McKannan and her husband Frank of Maceo, Robin Marie Basham and her husband Bill of Maceo and Gay Boyle and her husband Roger of Owensboro; 11 grandchildren, Forest, Austin and Felecia McKannan, Carolyn and Crystal Basham, Bradley, Kim, Lynn, Travis and Katie Horn and Andrew Boyle; three stepgrandchildren, James, Debra and Timothy Boyle; six great-grandchildren, Sierra, MaKayla and Beau McKannan, Chloe Sanders, Elizabeth Basham and Kelby Horn; one brother, Bobby Ray Horn of Owensboro; two sisters, Gay Taylor of Philpot and Linda Coleman of Jena, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Yellow Creek cemetery.
