Edith P. Austin, 77, of 319 Plum St., Owensboro, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at her daughter's home. She was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Daviess County and was a housewife and a member of Sorgho Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. Austin on Jan. 19, 1998; a son, Jerry Lee Graham in 1993; and her parents, Frank Davis and Nannie Bell Morris Davis.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie McIntyre and her husband, Conrad, of Owensboro; a son, Terry Wayne Graham of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Shannon Carter and Michael Carter, both of Owensboro, Kevin Carter of Tennessee and Michael Graham of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at noon Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bill Jolly officiating. Burial will be in Sorgho Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice Memorial Fund, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Kenneth Ray Ashford Sr.

BEAVER DAM - Kenneth Ray Ashford Sr., 79, of Beaver Dam died Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was a retired coal miner and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wright Ashford; a son, Kenneth Ray "Buddy" Ashford Jr.; a daughter, Karen Coy; two brothers, William Ashford and Bobby "Pete" Ashford; and a sister, Dorothy Gillim.

Services: 2 p.m. today at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial is private. Visitation: After 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Juanita Crutcher

PADUCAH - Juanita Crutcher, 86, of 544 Lone Oak Road, Paducah, died at 6:15 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. She was a homemaker and member of Bethel Baptist Church. She graduated from Daviess County High School and was a 40-year resident of Moore's Resort and an avid NASCAR fan. She was preceded in death by her father, William Salmon; her mother, Edna Hazel Salmon; two brothers; six sisters; a grandson, Neal Rogers; and a granddaughter, Tanya Klecz.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Crutcher of Paducah; a son, Doug Crutcher of Knoxville, Tenn.; three daughters, Nita Rogers of Frankfort, Ind., Debbie Linker of Boca Raton, Fla., and Robin Phillips of Stevensville, Mich.; a brother, O.B. Salmon of Grayville, Ill.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Collier Funeral Chapel in Benton, with the Rev. Mark Lilly. Burial will be in Moreland cemetery in Gilbertsville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert L. Goodman

Robert L. Goodman, 70, of 5520 Highway 1514, Owensboro, died Sunday, July 24, 2005. He was born on Oct. 14, 1934, to the late George and Lillian Mae Goodman. He was retired from Home Furniture Co. and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, Jonnie Goodman; a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Krahwinkel; three brothers, Jimmy, Buddy and Gene Goodman; and two sisters, Audrey Thompson and Sissy Vincent.

He is survived by five daughters, Karen Lewis, Robin Krahwinkel, Kathy Goble, Debbie Villalon and Lisa Galloway; two sons, Robert W. Goodman and Steven Goodman; a sister, Helen Quisenberry; two special nieces, Cindy Johnson and Patty Smith; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Robert L. Goodman family, c/o Davis Funeral Home, 3009 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

E.P. Piper

CLEATON - E.P. Piper, 70, of Cleaton died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was self-employed in the firewood business.

Survivors include his wife, Violeatha Jones Piper; three sons, E.P. Piper Jr., William Piper and Bryan Piper; five daughters, Crystal Brough, Dolly Majors, Brenda Edwards, Cynthia Napiorkowski and Theresa Napiorkowski; a brother, Timmy Piper; and three sisters, Lydia Jones, Rhoda King and Clodinen Mosley.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Miller cemetery in Cleaton. Visitation: From 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Brandie Nicole West

DUNMOR - Brandie Nicole West, 25, of Dunmor died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Ridge General Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Christopher West; three stepsons, Tyler West, Austin West and Matthew West; her father and stepmother, Buddy and Mavis Wester; her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Lowell Hunt; a stepsister, Crystal Davis; and her grandparents, Robert and Ramona Sadler and Lois Wester.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial: Union Ridge cemetery in Belton. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Delana Lee Young

Delana Lee Young, 60, of 2537 Apollo Court, Owensboro, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at her home. She was born April 17, 1945, in Perry County, Ind. She was a housewife, a member of the Pentecostal faith and her hobbies included animals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Young, in 2002; and her parents, Pless Young and Caroline Steele Young.

Survivors include her companion, Jerry Ellis; two stepdaughters, Shirley Roberson and her husband, Elvie, and Sandra Sue Jackson and her husband, Ray, all of Owensboro; nine stepgrandchildren; 22 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Nickle Ridge cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ella Bell Bennett

HARDINSBURG - Ella Bell Bennett, 76, of Hardinsburg died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Medco Center in Hardinsburg. She was a housewife and member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James O. Bennett; a daughter, Anita Bennett; a brother, Joseph "Doc" Arnold; and a sister, Lula Mae Poole.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Ivy Hill cemetery in Hardinsburg. Visitation: From 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Edward 'Chuck' Embry

Charles Edward "Chuck" Embry, 65, of Owensboro, formerly of Rockport, Ind., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System, after a lengthy illness. Charles was the second son of Fred and Stella Embry and was born June 5, 1940, in Macon County, Ill. He grew to manhood in Breckinridge and Hancock counties and then moved with his family to Spencer County, Ind., where he met and married his wife, Charlotte Ann Hinton, in March 1961. Charles was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Newtonville, Ind. He loved to fish, hunt and be with his family, where his joy for life and ability to make people laugh and tell stories was the high spot of every get-together. He was a former Spencer County deputy and served under Sheriff James "Jay" Goodwin. He was at one time a part owner of Imperial Mining Co. He later went back to law enforcement as a guard at Branchville Correctional Facility in Tell City, Ind., and retired in 1995 due to ill health. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred; a brother, Larry; a sister, Marilyn Linden; and a grandson, Jeremy Embry.

He is survived by his devoted wife and caregiver of 44 years, Charlotte; three daughters, Kelly (James) Malone, Holly (Benjamin) Warner and Lynette Board; a son, Eddie Embry; eight grandchildren, Sarah Little and her fiancé, Bobby Shepherd, Nikki Little, Heather Bass, Chris Embry, Jessica Layman, Wesley Layman, Austin Warner and Emily Embry; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Shepherd and Lexi Embry; his mother, Stella Embry; three brothers, Carl Embry, Danny Embry and Jerry Embry; and two sisters, Virginia Hall and Becky Middleton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will follow in New Hope cemetery in Newtonville, Ind. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chuck Embry family, c/o Davis Funeral Home, 3009 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Teresa 'Tucky' Whelan Thompson

On Friday, July 22, 2005, Jesus called our beloved mother, Teresa "Tucky" Whelan Thompson of Owensboro, home. She was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Winona, Minn., to Robert Vincent Whelan and Margaret Bernadette Whelan Roberts.

She was preceded in death by our father, Joe Thompson; her parents; and her stepfather, Fred Roberts.

Teresa was a member of the Legion of Mary and an avid volunteer. She volunteered for over 20 years at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Arts, Longfellow Adult Learning Center, St. Stephen's Soup Kitchen and was a weekly volunteer at SS. Joseph & Paul Church office. She enjoyed reading, playing bunco and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Holly) Thompson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Braun (Stephanie) Thompson of Houston; her daughters, Maria (Brian) Shyver of Marietta, Ohio, Catherine (Brad) Devine and Margaret (Paul) Weaver, both of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Zachary, McKayla, McKenzie and Kelsey Thompson, Ben and Joseph Thompson, Nate Shyver, Bradley and Amanda Devine, Katie, Brittany and A.J. Weaver; her sisters, Ann "Sissy" Allen, Juaretta (Charles) Dockemeyer; and brothers, Fred (Joan) Roberts and M.C. (Barbara) Roberts.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church with burial in Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Monday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family wishes expressions of sympathy be made to the SS. Joseph & Paul Church Restoration Fund or Hospice.
