Dina Lindow, 45, of 2357 Heartland Park, Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. The Daviess County native was a homemaker, formerly worked at Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center and was a member of SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. She volunteered at Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center and enjoyed scrapbooking, miniatures, reading, quilting and playing board games on the weekends.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Jim Lindow; a daughter, Christina Lindow; her parents, Dennis and Mary Higdon of Owensboro; two brothers, Phil and David Higdon, both of Owensboro; three sisters, Debbie Ward and husband, Mike, of Owensboro, Mary Higdon of Nashville and Luanne Robbins and husband, Matt, of Owensboro; 11 nieces and nephews, her in-laws, Bob and Jeannie Lindow of Owensboro; and the late Jean Lindow, Dave and Cathy Lindow, Joe and Robin Abel and Tony and Jane Lindow, all of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with prayers at 7:30 p.m., and also after 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Christina Lindow Scholarship Fund, c/o First Security Bank, 300 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Sister Martin Gertrude Mattingly

MAPLE MOUNT - Sister Martin Gertrude Mattingly, 97, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Mount St. Joseph, in her 77th year of religious life. A native of Knottsville, she was the daughter of Martin Spalding Mattingly and Sarah Gertrude Bowlds Mattingly. An educator for more than 50 years, she was principal and teacher at St. Martin School in Rome (1970 to 1971), and served as librarian at Immaculate (1979 to 1981) and Cathedral (1981 to 1982) schools, Owensboro, and at Mary Carrico School, Knottsville (1982 to 1983). She was teacher, and often principal, in many other schools in the Diocese of Owensboro and the Archdiocese of Louisville. She retired to the motherhouse in 1984.

Survivors include two sisters, Merici Millay and Margaret Payne, both of Owensboro; a brother, Vincent E. Mattingly of Owensboro; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements. Gifts in memory of Sister Martin Gertrude Mattingly may take the form of donations to the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, 8001 Cummings Road, Maple Mount, KY 42356.

Annette Anna K. Fulkerson

Annette Anna K. Fulkerson, 60, of 1303 Locust St., Owensboro, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at her home. She was born on Sept. 17, 1945, in Daviess County. She was a homemaker and her hobbies included antiques, computers, home remodeling and animals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick Henry and Sue Evelyn Pate Henry.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Richard Fulkerson.

Private services were held. Burial will be in Utica.

Bernine Moore Slaughter

CENTRAL CITY - Bernine Moore Slaughter, 99, of 716 N. Fourth St., Central City, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at her home. She was born July 8, 1906, in New York and was a retired nurse from the state of Ohio. She was a member of South Carrollton Methodist Church, Fun over Forty, Kentucky Colonel's Homemakers and several other groups and organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Slaughter; and a son, Lloyd Slaughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Grace (Jack) Martin of Bunnell, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Huntone of Bakersfield, Calif.; five grandchildren, Larry (Dora) Martin of Shawville, Pa., Linda Richard of Bunnell, Edwin (JoAnne) Martin of Bunnell, John Martin of Port Orange, Fla., and WyAllen Huntone of Norman, Okla.; two nieces, Betty (Rondle) Skimehorn and Darlene (Ronnie) Gossett; a nephew, Roger (Elaine) Skimehorn; several nieces and nephews in New York, Florida and Texas; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 10 a.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Leslie Moody officiating. Burial will be in Island Methodist Church cemetery.

Martha Dean 'Deanie' Scherrens

LOUISVILLE - Martha Dean "Deanie" Scherrens of Louisville passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Baptist East Hospital. She was born in Daviess County on Dec. 31, 1920. Deanie was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Owensboro. She raised her family in Indianapolis and was very active at Third Christian Church. The last few years she lived in Louisville, attended Southeast Christian Church and was a huge fan of Master's Men Choir. She retired from Walker Research as a supervisor. After retirement, she and Butch lived at Indian Lake Club in Hawesville, spending some of their happiest years. After Butch's death she moved to Park Regency in Owensboro and had many good card-playing buddies. She loved making needlepoint gifts for them all for the special holidays. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Dr. CJ "Butch" Scherrens.

She was so loved and survived by a brother, William Speer of California; three daughters, Carolyn Clark of Louisville, Judy (Alex) Persons of Annapolis, Md., and Nell La Lond of Sheridan, Ind.; five grandchildren, John Snyder of Louisville, Laura (Joe) Hagedorn of Louisville, Joe (Cathy) Feldhake of Avon, Ind., Jesseca Horton of Indianapolis and Mallory La Lond of Sheridan; and three great-grandsons.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Christian Church, 700 J.R. Miller Blvd., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Bernice Marie Black

HARTFORD - Bernice Marie Black, 84, of Hartford died at 10:55 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, at Beaver Dam Health Care Manor. She was born on Jan. 25, 1921, in Warren County to the late Thomas Carl Brown and Myrtle Lightfoot Brown. She was a homemaker and member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, G.H. "Buster" Black, on Jan. 3, 2003; a sister, Emma Jesse Miller, on May 29, 2005; and a brother, Carl Woodrow Brown, in May 2005.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Black of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Carl Black of Indianapolis and Barry Lynn Black of Hartford; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Bell Brown of Okmulgee, Okla.; and two nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eddie Duke officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Beatrice Tutt Martin

LOUISVILLE - Beatrice Tutt Martin, 95, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 16, 2005, at Harborside Nursing Facility in Louisville. She was a native of Greenville and a member of AME Zion Church, Wesley Chapel, in Greenville.

She is survived by six daughters, Ernestine (Charles) Benning, Unita Lawrence, Barbara (Arthur) Swain and Shirley McIntosh, all of Springfield, Ohio, Naomi Horton of Greenville and Anna (Edmond) Drake; three sons, Finis (Wanda) Martin of Springfield, Howitt (Roberta) Martin and Cornelius (Gail) Martin of Bowling Green; 40 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at AME Zion Church, Wesley Chapel, in Greenville. Visitation is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. EST today at G.C. Williams Funeral Home in Louisville and from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gary's Funeral Home on 405 Hopkinsville St. in Greenville. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to her church at 402 Hopkinsville St. in Greenville. Burial will be in Reynolds cemetery in Greenville.

William Douglas Hines

DRAKESBORO - William Douglas Hines, 58, of 200 Ditney Hill, Drakesboro, died at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born Aug. 23, 1947, in Muhlenberg County. He worked at TVA as an insulator and was a member of the former St. Paul AME Zion Church in Drakesboro. He was an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruth Hines; a daughter, Wednesday Hines; and a brother, Stanley Hines.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Lovan Hines; two sons, William Fredrick D. Hines of Drakesboro and Jerry Lewis Green of Hopkinsville; a daughter, Crystal LaChelle Hines of Louisville; a grandson, Sahvon M. Hines; four brothers, Harold Hines of Drakesboro, Stephen (Meredith) Hines of Madisonville, Perry (Lisa) Hines of Carmel, Ind., and Patrick (Venieshia) Hines of Lawrenceburg; four brothers-in-law, William (Teresa) Lovan of Crofton, Paul (Sharon) Lovan of Madisonville, Cowan Lovan of North Carolina and Vincent Lovan of Crofton; three sisters-in-law, Dorethea Hill of Hopkinsville, Vivian Lovan of Evansville and Janice Hines of Central City; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Wesley Chapel in Greenville. Burial will be in West End cemetery in Greenville, with military honors. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church. Tucker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Delia Adeline Hedden Wilson

Delia Adeline Hedden Wilson, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005. She was 94, lived at 2955 Plymouth Place and passed away at 6:40 p.m. at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Feb. 9, 1911, in Vanzant to the late George Henry Hedden and Ella Roberts Hedden. She was a housewife and a charter member of Karns Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and the outdoors, especially sitting on her porch swing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Guy Wilson, on Sept. 9, 2001; a son, Marvin Guy Wilson on July 31, 1978; brothers Sam and Lewis Hedden; and sisters Ara, Mamie and Leota Hedden.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda W. Page of Owensboro and Betty W. Riddle of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Debbie Allen Russell, Karen R. Caywood, Cathy W. Roper, Susan K. Morris and Gregory Guy Wilson; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bob Milborn officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Karns Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mildred Lorene Vaughan

CENTRAL CITY - Mildred Lorene Vaughan, 94, of 100 Broad St., Central City, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at her home. She was born Oct. 7, 1910, in Muhlenberg County and was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morton Vaughan; and a son, Harold Vaughan.

Survivors include two grandsons, Bryan Vaughan of Waterford, Mich., and David Vaughan of Romulus, Mich.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah cemetery in Bremen. Visitation is after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Thomas E. Keown

HAWESVILLE - Thomas E. Keown, 80, of Hawesville died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at Oakwood Health Care in Tell City, Ind. He was born in Ohio County on Nov. 28, 1924, to the late Fred and Rose Newton Keown. He was of the Baptist faith, a farmer and member of Boilermakers Local 40. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Bivins and Martha Keown; and three brothers, Les Keown, Cecil Keown and Leo Keown.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Vivian Keown; a daughter, Cheryl Wroe and her husband, Denny; a son, Tommy Keown and his wife, Debbie; five grandchildren, Dwayne Wroe, Renae Pierrard, Mike Keown, Greg Keown and Brad Keown; seven great-grandchildren, Mycah Wroe, Trevor Pierrard, Taylor Wroe, Shayla Pierrard, Preslee Keown, Kade Thomas Keown and Kendra Keown; a sister, Jewell Banks of Hawesville; and a brother, Ray Keown of Hawesville.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville with the Rev. Jim McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Hancock County Athletic Scholarship Fund in memory of Thomas E. Keown. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or can be taken to the Hancock Bank.
