Maj. Dortha Gaynell Beck Saffold

CROMWELL - Maj. Dortha Gaynell Beck Saffold (ret.), 91, of Cromwell died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on Aug. 31, 1914, in Ohio County to Arthur B. Beck and Lola Baize Beck. She retired after 20 years of service as a nurse with the Army and Air Force and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was a 1932 graduate of Cromwell High School and a graduate of Welborn Hospital Nursing School in Evansville. She was an Army veteran of World War II and served on the committee of Mount Zion cemetery Fund for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Walter Saffold, on Oct. 3, 1978; her parents; two brothers, Conward Beck and John Beck; and a sister, Lavada Collard.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with the Rev. Gary Hines officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mount Zion cemetery Fund, 1300 North Madison St., Beaver Dam, KY 42320. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Stella M. 'Midge' Myers

OLATON - Stella M. "Midge" Myers, 84, of Olaton died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at her home. She was a homemaker and member of Fairview Baptist Church in Olaton.
Survivors include three sons, William Myers, Donald Myers and Fred Myers; two daughters, Mary Ann Casteel and Phyllis Hackbarth; and four brothers, Johnny Cundiff, Bob Cundiff, Paul Cundiff and George Cundiff.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial: McCord cemetery in Olaton. Visitation: From 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Martha Jean Clark DeLacey

SPRING, Texas - Martha Jean Clark DeLacey, a resident of Spring, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at MD Anderson Cancer Center after a 20-year battle with breast cancer. Born in Owensboro on April 26, 1942, she was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School, a homemaker, a loving mother and a very devoted Catholic. Mrs. DeLacey was an active member of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Spring, where she was the eucharistic minister trainer for many years. She designed and created more than 70 costumes for theater productions at the church. She was a shining inspiration and led many to the love of Christ.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Guy Edward DeLacey, also of Owensboro; a daughter, Venus Tingley and husband, Walter, of Spring; a son, Jesse Edward DeLacey; two grandsons, John Wayne and James Michael Tingley; two brothers, Tony and Ed Clark; and a sister, Dorothy Tillsburg.
The visual service will be at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 18511 Klein Church Road, Spring, TX 77379, where the funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven cemetery. Locally, a memorial Mass will be said at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Utica.
Betty Lou Hines Nance

Betty Lou Hines Nance, 66, of 393 Toms Branch Road, Hartford, left to be with her Lord Jesus on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at her home after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Ohio County to the late William "Bill" and Ida Kitchens Hines. She was retired as a registered nurse with the Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital and was a member of Good Shepherd Church. She also had worked at Leisure Years Nursing Home and at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville and did private duty nursing. She truly loved being able to care for the elderly. Her last work was as a nurse for Perdue Inc. She was a member of the Women's Mission Group at the church and the Quilting Club in Ohio County. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. Preceding her in death are two brothers, Orville Leisure in 2003, and Elwood Hines in 1995.
Surviving is a daughter, Rita Igleheart Thompson and her husband, Dale, of Hartford; a brother, Woodrow "Woody" Hines of Owensboro; a sister, Hilda Wood of Belleville, Mich., two grandchildren, Jeremy Thompson of Louisville and Candice Thompson of Hartford; and a great-grandchild, Ethan Thompson of Hartford; and seven nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Glenn Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Cool Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ohio County, 107 Gillespie St., Hartford, KY 42347.
James 'J.R.' Robert Tapp

James "J.R." Robert Tapp, 78, of Owensboro died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born to James and Mary Tapp on Sept. 18, 1926, in Sebree. He joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church at an early age. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Japan. He was a proficient woodworker, an avid gardener and loved growing roses. He worked at OMU for 25 years and retired from Alcoa Warrick Operations in Newburgh, Ind., in 1989, after 23 years of service. He also served on the H.L. Neblett Center's board of directors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Harriet; his brother, Eugene Tapp; two stepdaughters, Vicki L. Deal and Florence Helena Davenport.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Florence Marie Tapp, a daughter, Tonia Rashid of Lexington, three sons, Rodney V. Tapp of Maryland, Rashad Majeed (Deborah) of Lexington and Lynn L. Tapp (Sherry) of Owensboro, a brother, Lynnford Tapp of Ohio, three stepchildren, Janet Stewart (Marshall), Eugene Deal Jr. (Loretta) and Cynthia Merriwether (Rick); eight grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are at noon Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Fourth Street Baptist Church, with burial in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the church. McFarland Funeral Home of Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.
Ewing E. 'Butch' Wells Jr.

Ewing E. "Butch" Wells Jr., 66, of 2117 Bell Road, Maceo, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at his home. He was born in Daviess County to Evelyn Bell Wells and the late Ewing Elwood Wells Sr. on May 24, 1939. A construction foreman, he had worked for Koester Construction Co. in Evansville and he retired from Local 181 Operators Union. He had also worked as a heavy equipment operator. He attended Maceo Baptist Church and had served in the Air Force. He enjoyed NASCAR and gardening.
Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Brenda Rushing Wells; three sons, Jeffery (Kim) Wells of Sheridan, Wyo., "Jody" (Susan) Wells of Dale, Ind., and Jason (Leann) Wells of Louisville, Neb.; one daughter, Jana (J.J.) Van Prays of Flagstaff, Ariz.; two stepchildren, Sonya (Troy) Looney of Olive Branch, Miss., and Mark Steele of Owensboro; his mother, Evelyn Bell Wells; a brother, Ronnie (Susan) Wells; a sister, Margaret Ruth (Don) Miller of Spice Knob; 14 grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.
Services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Glenn Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Yellow Creek cemetery.

Richard T. Imazumi

Richard T. Imazumi, 37, of Owensboro died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born April 2, 1968, in Berkeley, Calif., and had been employed by the federal government as a security supervisor for three years. He was a Marine Corps veteran and was preceded in death by his father, George Imazumi, in 1988.
Survivors include his fiancé with whom he made his home, Lisa Timbrook of Owensboro; a stepson, Shane Powell of Owensboro; his mother, Kuniko Imazumi of Berkeley; his future in-laws, Larry and Liz Phelps of Owensboro; a brother, Edward Imazumi of Berkeley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in California and Japan.
Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Brad Whistle officiating. Visitation is after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Teresa Marie Durbin

Teresa Marie Durbin, 52, of 2203 W. Parrish Ave., Owensboro, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 27, 1953, in Daviess County to the late Regina Krawiec and Wilbur Wright Sr. Mrs. Durbin was the office manager at Rick's Tire & Service Inc. She was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral and was an avid bowler for 30 years with local leagues. She enjoyed her work, cooking, animals, especially her seven cats, gardening, shopping and spending time with all her family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Pete Wright.
Mrs. Durbin is survived by her husband of 11 years, Rick Durbin; two sons, Steve and his wife Monica Scott and Nathan Scott, all of Owensboro; two daughters, Angi and her husband Greg Wahl and Sara Scott and her fiancé, Jason Morris, all of Owensboro; a stepson, Robbie Durbin of Owensboro; a stepdaughter, Cindy Durbin of Owensboro; seven sisters, Margaret Roby, Faye Small, Joana Westerfield and Becky Luckett, all of Masonville, Kay Hagan of Owensboro, Kathy Cox of Lexington and Joyce Wright of Sarasota, Fla.; six brothers, Mike Wright and Carl Wright, both of Owensboro, Tom Wright of Danville, Wilbur Wright Jr. of Masonville and Ray Wright and Joe Wright, both of Philpot; four grandchildren, Michael Wahl, Madeline Wahl, Gracie Morris and Lola Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at St. Stephen Cathedral with burial following in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, and after 10 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

John Edward Ams

John Edward Ams, 91, a resident of the Carmel Home and formerly of Wesleyan Park Drive, Owensboro, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2005. He was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Daviess County to the late Mary Christine (Schaefer) Ams and John Edward Ams Sr. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, American School of Designing in Chicago and also obtained a bachelor of science degree in fine arts from Brescia College. Mr. Ams retired from Fleischman Distillery Corp. after 39 years. He was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary for more than 40 years. He was a gifted artist and model ship builder. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Alice Ams; and an aunt, Ada Schaefer.
Mr. Ams is survived by a sister, Helen Louise Lambert of Owensboro; a nephew, Paul R. Lambert (Joyce) of Chesterfield, Mo.; two nieces, Rebecca Lambert Carrico (David) of Owensboro and Janice Lambert Matthis of Owensboro; six great-nephews; four great-nieces; four great-great-nieces and four great-great-nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Immaculate Catholic Church with entombment following in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Glenn Funeral Home and also after 8:30 a.m. Monday. Prayers will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Emma Lucille Evans, 82, of 2620 West Cloverdale Drive, Owensboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on Jan. 21, 1923, in Logan County to the late Elijah C. and Mary Ann (Robinson) Epley. She retired from Galloway's Cafeteria and was a member of Nickel Ridge Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wilson Evans, on Aug. 16, 1983.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Evans of Thruston and David W. Evans of Lewisport; three daughters, Linda F. Clark of Owensboro, Phyllis D. Plemens of Henderson and Charlotte K. Hobdy of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
