George Winter Maxey

ROANOKE, Va. - George Winter Maxey, 83, of Roanoke passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 19, 2005. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Hattie Lee Stinson Maxey. Mr. Maxey grew up in Owensboro, where he graduated from Owensboro High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Sons of the American Revolutionary War and First Baptist Church. Mr. Maxey was president of Maxey Homes, Inc., a family owned construction company. Upon his retirement he and his wife owned and operated Carriage House Antiques.
He is survived by his son, Lewis Keith Maxey, and his daughter, Susan Maxey Atkinson. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Brandon Reid Maxey, Brittany Nichole Maxey, Bryce Winter Maxey, Jennifer Lynn Atkinson Pottinger and Ashley Ann Atkinson; and a great-grandson, Andrew Nolan Pottinger. He will also be remembered by his sister-in-law, Lona Sedanko, and a niece, Carol Beth Sedanko; and special friends and caretakers, Katherine Frost Robins, Mikki Wray and Jacqueline Havens.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. EST Friday, April 22, at the Lotz Funeral Home, Roanoke (Va.) Chapel, 1001 Franklin Road, officiated by the Rev. Dave Peterson. Inurnment with military honors will be by VFW Post No. 2127 in Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke.

HARDINSBURG - Vernie R. Pile, 84, of Custer died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Ileana Pile; and two sons, Roger Pile and Barry Pile.

Fanny Ernestine Nelson, 85, of Owensboro died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Wellington Parc of Owensboro. She was born on May 22, 1919, in Hancock County and retired from General Electric Co. as an inspector after 40 years. She was a wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of more than 60 years, Beverly Nelson of Owensboro; a son, Gary and his wife, Kathy Nelson, of Somerset; a daughter, Sue Trautwein of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Dr. Kelly Nelson Quaglia and her husband, Ray, of Philadelphia, Gary Nelson and his wife, Brittany, of Louisville, Nicholas Nelson of Somerset and Susan Campbell and her husband, Brian, of Lexington; three great-grandchildren, Adam, Sophia and Brittany Sue; a sister, Dorothy Sweeney of Hancock; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association, 4770 Covert Ave., Suite 211, Evansville, IN 47714.

Mary Pearl Stuart, 91, of 6871 Kentucky 405, Owensboro, passed away Monday, April 18, 2005, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. She was born in Daviess County and was a member of Thruston United Methodist Church. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Rodger William Lamar, Kenneth Carl Lamar and John Eddie Lamar; and a sister, Bertha Sue Lamar.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Robert M. Stuart Jr.; two daughters, Janice Ambrose and Sue Napper and her husband, Stewart; a son, Robert S. Stuart and his wife, Ann, all of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Ron Blair Jr. of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and Michelle Westerfield, Drew and Kelsey Napper and Madison Stuart, all of Owensboro; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Blair of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Ashley and Alicia Westerfield, both of Owensboro.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. CLOVERPORT - Raymond E. Gray Sr., 65, of Cloverport died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at Kindred Hospital. He retired from Commonwealth Aluminum as a factory worker.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Gray; three sons, David Gray, Raymond Gray Jr. and Tony Gray; three daughters, Michelle Carmen, Bridgett Gray and Crystal Harper; a brother, Glen Gray; and two sisters, Anna Adams and Mary Doyle.

James Earl Morris

James Earl Morris, 86, of One Park Place, Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005. He was born in Thruston on July 14, 1918, to the late Henry L. and Nellie Christian Morris. He graduated from Lewisport High School in 1936 and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had worked for the A&P Grocery Stores for 37 years. During that period, he managed A&P stores in Nashville, Central City and Memphis before retiring from the store in Hopkinsville.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Edna Mae Carr Morris; a son and his wife, Jerry and Sharon (KoKo) Morris of Owensboro; a daughter and her husband, Charlotte and Buddy Adams of Louisville; a grandson and his wife, David and Laura Sims of Hopkinsville; two granddaughters, Lacey Morris and Rachel Morris, both of Owensboro; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Victoria Sims, both of Hopkinsville.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at Glenn Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Yellow Creek cemetery in Thruston. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today and after 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. HARTFORD - William Roger "Sonny" Potter, 72, of Hartford died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Nov. 18, 1932, in Daviess County to the late Roger and Frances Hall Potter. He was a retired farmer and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church near Beaver Dam. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Potter.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Potter of Hartford; a daughter, Sheila Raley and husband, Gary, of Beaver Dam; a brother, Albert Potter and wife, Nancy, of Owensboro; and a granddaughter, Krista Leisure and husband, Corey, of Beaver Dam.
Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with the Rev. Conard Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam with military rites. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ralph Ringham, 70, of 530 Yale Place, Owensboro, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born July 28, 1934, in Perry County, Ind., and was the former owner of the Carpet Barn. He was a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God, Eagles Club and Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ringham, in 2001; his parents, Burless and Beulah Cronin Ringham; and a sister, Ruth Knight.
Survivors include a son, James Ringham and his wife, Cheryl, of Owensboro; a daughter, Rhonda Ringham Allen and her husband, Jeffrey, of Flora, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Jeanna Bozell and her husband, Jerry, of Muncie, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, Robyn Johnson, Toni Johnson, Noah Allen, Elesha Ringham, Kendell Roberts, Katlyn Roberts, Taylor Roberts, Madison Roberts, Robin Baker, Shawnee Baker and Brandon Baker; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Ray Ringham and his wife, Carol, of Bowling Green; and a sister, Susan Newton and her husband, Eddie, of Owensboro.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home in Owensboro, with the Rev. Lewis Nall officiating. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. STURGIS - Homer Dossett, 84, of Sturgis died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at his home in rural Sturgis. Mr. Dossett was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the founder and trailmaster of the annual St. Ambrose Trail Ride. He was a lifelong farmer in Union County.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Clemmie Dossett of Sturgis; three daughters, Barbara Way of Bowling Green, Agnes Mayberry (Steve) of Owensboro and Geraldine Miller (Terry) of Ekron; a son, Dennis Dossett (Stephanie) of Sturgis; two sisters, Jean Hancock and Mary Crowdus, both of Morganfield; 11 grandchildren, Emily Soard, Christy Mayberry, Chad Dossett, Joshua Dossett, Dr. Jason Miller, Matthew Miller, Michelle Parker, Lindsey Mayberry, Benjamin Dossett, Jordan Dossett and Adam Miller; and four great-grandchildren, Maddie Soard, Mia Soard, Ethan Parker and Riley Parker.
Services are at noon today at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Union County, with Father Freddie Byrd, Father Terry Devine and Father Richard Cash officiating. Burial will be in St. Ambrose cemetery in Union County. Visitation is after 9 a.m. today at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Building Fund or to St. Anthony's Hospice.
Johnny Franklin Dawson Sr.

Johnny Franklin Dawson Sr., 67, of 7431 Griffith Road, Owensboro, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on March 20, 1938, in Trigg County to the late Henry Lewis Dawson Sr. and Bethel Elizabeth (Chadwick) Dawson. He was an independent insurance agent for 41 years and an ordained minister. He was a member of Sorgho Baptist Church, a Shriner and a member of F&AM No. 130 Masonic Lodge, where he was secretary and a past master. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Stewart; and three brothers, Tom Nat Dawson, Henry Lewis Dawson Jr. and Leroy Dawson.
Survivors include his wife of 47 1/2 years, Violet Norine Dawson; a son, J.D. Dawson Jr. of Stanley; a daughter, Therese Barnett of Stanley; six grandchildren; eight-and-a-half great-grandchildren; seven foster children; 19 foster grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Lee Dawson of Hendron and Homer Dawson of Pembroke; and a sister, Geneva Calhoun of Cadiz.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Sorgho Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
