Sherman Wayne Hendrix
04/13/2005

Sherman Wayne Hendrix, 72, of 530 Graystone Drive, Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his home. He was born in Daviess County to the late Thomas J. and Ivy Jane Hope Hendrix, who were natives of Dunmor. He was retired after 30 years from Alcoa. He was a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church and was formerly the owner and member of Owensboro Church of Jesus Christ, which was located at the corner of Third Street and Frazier, and where he and his wife provided most of the music for their services many times. He was a member and the leader of the "Fistful of Country Band." He had performed at many country and bluegrass festivals, including the Owensboro Bluegrass Festival. He was a veteran of the National Guard. He also loved all types of gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jean Hendrix, on July 11, 2003.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Atkinson and Patricia Millay, both of Owensboro; three sons, Benjamin Wayne Hendrix, Glenn Stewart Hendrix and Richard Anthony Hendrix, all of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, Tara Shrewsberry, Casey Millay, Bradley Hendrix, Amanda Lanham, Amber Marie Hendrix, Crystal Hendrix, Stacy Benningfield, Jason Atkinson and Laura Austin; and she was also blessed with 10 great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; a brother, Austin Hendrix of Dunmor; and two sisters, Rena Montgomery and Margaret Louise Simpson, both of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Crosspointe Baptist Church, with entombment following in Rosehill cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to either Crosspointe Baptist Church, 550 Worthington Road, Owensboro, KY 42301 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Margarine Bivins Clark

Margarine Bivins Clark, 99, a teacher, scholar, mother, wife and wonderful friend, died Saturday, April 9, 2005. A native of Daviess County, Mrs. Clark was a daughter of June and Katherine Head Bivins, who lived near Yelvington and owned general stores in that area for many years. She loved education and received her teaching certificate from Murray State Teachers College, a bachelor's degree from Evansville College and a master's degree from Indiana University. She began her teaching career in 1925 in a one-room school. She taught for a total of 37 years in Daviess County and Spencer County, Ind., including a year in Muskegon, Mich. Among some of her assignments, she taught math and English, coached basketball and served as principal of Hatfield Elementary School. She was doing what she loved: Touching hearts and minds.

She married Howard Walton Clark in 1931. He was a road contractor and they enjoyed farming and gardening while Margarine taught school. Howard died in 1987 after 56 years of marriage. They were members of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and so were their families for four generations. She taught Sunday school and served on the board for many years. They loved their neighbors and would freely share their large gardens with them and others.

Survivors include her daughter Rosa Katherine and her husband, Al Allomong, of Maggie Valley, N.C., and her daughter Ruth Seydel, and grandson, Howard Clark Seydel of Atlanta; her sister, Anna Tom Vonderscher and her five children; her brother-in-law, Robley H. Rex; her nephew, Howard Thomas Jones and his daughter, Debbie Fulkerson; her niece, Jean Kataja and her four children of Michigan; a great-niece, Karen Sue Myers of Louisville; and a cousin, Barbara Jean Greenwell.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro, where visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens cemetery near Thruston. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Margarine Bivins Clark Scholarship Fund at Kentucky Wesleyan College. The scholarship fund was established 15 years ago to honor her dedication to education. It is awarded annually to students from Spencer and Daviess counties who want to become teachers. Contributions may be mailed to Kentucky Wesleyan College Development Office, 3000 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Robin Kaye Thompson

Robin Kaye Thompson, 49, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System.

Survivors include two sons, Brandon Thompson and Charlie Moss; two daughters, Ashlea Moss and Stevie Thompson; her father, James K. Froehlich; a sister, Paula Niebuhr; and a brother, Mark Froehlich.

Memorial Mass: 11 a.m. today at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Visitation: After 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Parish Hall at the church. Memorial contributions: Blessed Mother Catholic Church, 601 E. 23rd St., Owensboro, KY 42303. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Scott L. Dearing

ISLAND - Scott L. Dearing, 68, of 230 Trading Post Lane, Island, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at his home in Island. Scotty Lowell Dearing was born March 2, 1937, in Danville, Ill., and was later married to the former Diane Lynn Mosby on July 26, 1985. Scott was a retired diesel mechanic and a member of Neals Chapel General Baptist Church in Bremen. He served his country in the Marine Corps and also enjoyed camping, singing and attending church.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jane Dearing of Fisher, Ill., and David Dearing of Champaign, Ill.; a daughter, Lisa Dearing of North Carolina; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Patricia and Steve Case and Jacqueline and Tim Shocklee, both of Livermore; an adopted daughter and her husband, Tonya and Steve Fulkerson of Sacramento; 13 grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Ron and Char Cooper of St. Joseph, Ill., Bill and Shelia Cooper of Georgetown, Ill., and Richard Cooper of Danville; and six sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley Hardesty of Urbana, Ill., Helen Hardesty, Jean Midcap and Rose Lawyer, all of Danville, Carol and Gerald Kietzmann of Tilton, Ill., and Alice Druaf of Clinton, Ind.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel, with the Rev. Joey Todd and Brother Sammie Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Island Baptist cemetery in McLean County, with military honors conducted by the McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post No. 5415. Friends may visit with the Dearing family from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Saturday at Muster's in Livermore.

The Dearing family requests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Scott L. Dearing Memorial Fund, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 228, Livermore, KY 42352. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Muster's in Livermore.

Charles Atlas Dukes

GREENVILLE - Charles Atlas Dukes, 75, of 222 North Main St., Greenville, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at 7:15 p.m. in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Greenville the son of Raymond Atlas Dukes and Dora Green Anderson Dukes. He retired in 1992 from First State Bank in Greenville after 20 years and he operated Square Deal Grocery for many years. He was a member of Greenville Church of Christ and graduated from Greenville High School in 1947. He was Greenville City Treasurer for 20 years and served on Evergreen cemetery board of directors. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Joan Forgy Dukes on Jan. 21, 2005.

He is survived by a daughter, Vickie (Rick) McClenaghan of Westerville, Ohio; three sons, Eddie Dukes of Greenville, Roger (Pam) Dukes of Greenville and Phillip (Kathy) Dukes of Beth Page, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Erica Dukes Green, Beth Ann Dukes and Walter McClenaghan; and a sister, Margaret Casebier of Louisville.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 17, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville by Mr. Steve Stovall, Mr. John Forgy and Mr. Kenneth Joines. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville and after 9 a.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Evergreen cemetery, P.O. Box 181, Greenville, KY 42345. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Anne Dawson Ford

Anne Dawson Ford, 71, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at her home. She was born Jan. 30, 1934, in Louisville to the late Wallace Douglas and Ida Belle Dawson. She was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church where she was active and taught Sunday school for many years. She taught school in Niceville, Fla., from 1957 to 1959 and retired from teaching at Daviess County Middle School in 1992. She enjoyed her grandchildren and could always be found working in her flower gardens in the spring. Her brother, Sam Dawson, of Montgomery, Ala., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, William E. (Bill) Ford Jr.; a daughter, Sally Roby and her husband, Kris of Owensboro; a son, William E. (Ed) Ford III and his wife Tonya of Owensboro; two grandsons, William E. (Willy) Ford IV and Tristan Roby; two granddaughters, Kelsea Roby and Lyndsay (Ford) and her husband Damon Hagan; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Ford, all of Owensboro; and a brother, Wallace Dawson and his wife Vickie of St. Louis.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home where visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Yellow Creek cemetery near Thruston.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Yellow Creek Baptist Church building fund.

Jonell House

CENTRAL CITY - Jonell House, 73, of 104 Golden Tide Ave., Central City, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Muhlenberg County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Luzerne General Baptist Church in Greenville. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Tiffany Lynn House and Tyler Lin House; and a brother, Daniel Jewell.

Survivors include two sons, Norman House of Central City and Joseph House of Greenville; two daughters, Laquita Martin of Central City and Suzanne Probst of San Dimas, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two brothers, Tilmon Jewell of Moorman and Auburn Case of Central City.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Joe Pharris officiating. Burial will be in New Hope cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bruce W. Rose
04/16/2005

Bruce W. Rose, 63, of 3935 Krystal Lane, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Daviess County to Helen Stinson Rose and Elwood Rose and retired as an electrician from IBEW Local 1701 Electrical Workers. He was a former insurance broker with Nationwide Insurance Co., a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed his grandchildren and University of Kentucky sports and gardening. He was preceded in death by his father, Elwood Rose, in 1986.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sandra Tinius Rose; two daughters, Angela (Angie) Rose and Meredith Nantz; grandchildren, Samantha and Cole Rose; and his mother, Helen Stinson Rose, all of Owensboro; two brothers, David Rose of Owensboro and Allen Kent Rose of Newburgh, Ind.; several cousins; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Samuel Barrett 'Sambo' Stanley

Samuel Barrett "Sambo" Stanley, 85, of 517 W. Main St., Powderly, died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at 10:20 p.m. at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born March 10, 1920, in Muhlenberg County the son of Netter Stanley and Angejella Ann Groves Stanley. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a farmer who retired from Gatton Farms in 1984 after 29 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Dorothy Mae Stanley in 1943 and Addie Agnes Stanley in 1944.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sally Williams Stanley of Powderly; five daughters, Edna Hayes of Sacramento, Stella Pool of Madisonville, Phyllis Stanley of Evansville, Linda Groves of Graham and Paulette Stanley of Central City; four sons, Earl Stanley of South Carrollton, Bruce Stanley of South Carrollton, Rondal Stanley of Madisonville and Jeffery Stanley of Graham; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jay Stanley of Graham; and two sisters, Pauline Linville of Hopkinsville and Josephine Cornette of Cleaton.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 17, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. from Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville by the Rev. J.W. Haire and the Rev. Mike Brown. Burial will be in Yeargins Chapel cemetery. Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Sunday.

Sister Mary Bartholene Warren, OSU

MAPLE MOUNT - Sister Mary Bartholene Warren, 102, an Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph of Maple Mount, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was in her 83rd year of religious life. A native of St. Mary in Marion County, Sister Bartholene was an educator for 57 years. Her teaching ministry included St. Mary Magdalene in Sorgho (1937 to 1939), St. Romuald in Hardinsburg (1945 to 1947) and St. Alphonsus elementary (1925 to 1927) and high schools (1952 to 1954) in St. Joseph. She taught in many other schools in the Diocese of Owensboro and in the Archdiocese of Louisville and for 16 years in New Mexico, where she knew Mother - now Saint - Katharine Drexel.

Survivors include nieces and nephews; and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Mount St. Joseph, where visitation will begin Friday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements. Memorial gifts for Sister Bartholene Warren may take the form of donations to the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, 8001 Cummings Road, Maple Mount, KY 42356.
