SLAUGHTERS - Edward R. Dame, 68, of Slaughters died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He retired as an oil rig operator.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Barbara Dame; four sons, Eddie Dame, Barry Dame, Mark Dame and Dennis Dame; two daughters, Anita Payne and Lynn Daugherty; and three sisters, Francis Davis, Mildred Willis and Jo Ann Burks.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial: Waltons Creek cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Edward R. Dame Memorial Fund.
The Rev. James O. Alford

RIPLEY, Tenn. - The Rev. James O. Alford, 59, of Ripley died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at his home. He was the minister at First United Methodist Church in Ripley and a member of Memphis Annual Conference of United Methodist Churches. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Alford; two sons, Scott Alford of Collierville and Mark Alford of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; a parent, Violet Alford of Owensboro ; two grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Alford of Owensboro.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Middle Tennessee Veterans cemetery. Garner Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeshore United Methodist Assembly.
Betty Lou Yeckering

FORDLAND, Mo. - Betty Lou Yeckering, 53, of Fordland died at 12:44 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Betty was born March 2, 1951, in Owensboro, the daughter of George and Lula Anderson Winters. She was a member of the Baptist church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Mark, at home; a son, Tim, and a granddaughter, of Englewood, Colo.; two brothers, Jim Winters of Owensboro and Cecil Winters of Bowie, Md.; three sisters, Amy Blandford of Owensboro, Elsie Kellems of Independence, Mo., and Juanita Olar of Avon Park, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Memorial services were March 3. The Rev. L.D. Fletcher officiated. Cremation and burial will be at a later date under the direction of Greenlawn South Funeral Home in Springfield.
William W. 'Willie' Wells Jr.

William W. "Willie" Wells Jr., 75, of Thompson Drive, Owensboro, went to be with our Lord after a long illness on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. He was born March 3, 1930, to the late William W. and Bertha Neel Wells Sr. in Daviess County. He was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church, retired from Owensboro Municipal Utilities and served in the Army 526th Armored Infantry Battalion-School Troops (Co. A) at Fort Knox. He also served in the National Guard. He was a graduate of Owensboro High School in 1948, where he played basketball and football. He was a member of the Evansville Musicians Association and was a very giving and loving person who enjoyed children, playing and coaching sports. He coached basketball at SS. Joseph & Paul and football at Blessed Mother. He also enjoyed playing and teaching music. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ophelia Mattingly, Louise Gray and Bobbie Jean Owen.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Trodglen) Wells of Owensboro; two sons, William M. (Marty) Wells and William A. (Bill) Wells and his wife, Cindy, all of Owensboro; a daughter, Regina Wells of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Lola Pike and Alberta Rice, both of Curdsville; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and cousins, nieces and nephews. Also, Wanda Girten and her family were important to him.
Services and burial will be private. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Craig Patrick Vest, 39, of 1829 Triplett St., Owensboro, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at his home. He was a painter and an Army veteran.
Survivors include a son, Craig Patrick Brown; two daughters, Roxanne Brown and Robin Brown; his mother, Carolyn Vest; a brother, Kerry Vest; and a sister, Carol Vest.

Grover A. Sosh

CALHOUN - Grover A. Sosh, 44, of 680 W. Third St., Calhoun, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. Grover Allen Sosh was born Nov. 3, 1960, in Daviess County to the late Woodie and Margaret Sosh. Grover was a construction worker and a member of the Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James T. Sosh, Donald Earl Sosh and George William Sosh.
Survivors include a stepson, Danny Bailey of Owensboro; two stepdaughters, Patricia Carter and Lisa Wayne, both of Owensboro; four brothers, Sherman Sosh and Larry "Jinks" Sosh, both of Owensboro, Delmar Sosh of Utica and Orville "Snake" Sosh of Rumsey; and four sisters, Ruby Warner and Nelda Sosh, both of Calhoun, and Reva Mooneyhan and Marlena Hoggard, both of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel, with the Rev. Harry Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Nickel Ridge cemetery in Daviess County. Friends may visit with the Sosh family from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Musters in Calhoun.

James Edwin 'Smitty' Smith

James Edwin "Smitty" Smith, 89, of Hartford died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Professional Care Home in Hartford. He was an Ohio County native and was born on Oct. 21, 1915. He was a decorated veteran of World War II. He received a Bronze Star to be attached to his Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal for participation in the Northern Solomon Islands campaign. He was also entitled to wear the American Services Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He served his country for 42 months in the Pacific Theater. Edwin retired as manager of the Hartford Toll Plaza in 1980. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel D. Fuqua Smith, in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Smith and son-in-law, Charles Smith, of Hartford; two grandchildren, Greg Boyd and Teresa Boyd Renfrow of Hartford; and five great-grandchildren. He has two brothers, Wyman and William Jr. Smith, both of Sunnydale; and four sisters, Virginia Shown of Radcliff, Martha Alvey of Hartford, Ruth Mason of Beaver Dam and Joan Cole of Owensboro.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Duke-Bevil Funeral Home in Hartford. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with military honors at graveside at Oakwood cemetery in Hartford.
Charles E. Roberson Sr.

BEAVER DAM - Charles E. Roberson Sr., 64, of Frankfort died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was born in Butler County, and his parents are deceased. He was a member of South Frankfort Presbyterian Church, was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of many sportman's clubs. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1958 and attended Kentucky Wesleyan College and University of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia A. Peters, on March 7, 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Kimbell Roberson; a son, Charles "Chuck" Roberson Jr. of Frankfort; three daughters, Terry Taylor of Lexington and Cheryl Carlisle and Lisa C. Roberson, both of Frankfort; four grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy C. Roberson of Louisville.
Graveside services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Point Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery in Little Bend in Butler County. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.
Kurt Raimund Richter

FAIRFIELD, Ohio - Kurt R. Richter, 93, of Fairfield passed away in his residence Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005. He was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, on April 21, 1911, a son of Hugo and Luise Richter. He was drafted into World War II as a cavalryman and cartographer and served from 1940 to 1945, when he became a prisoner of war in Poland. Released in 1950, he resumed his profession as a commercial artist. In 1963, he and his wife moved to Louisville, where they became naturalized U.S. citizens. Kurt co-owned Myers Thompson Co., designing and building prize-winning floats for the Kentucky Derby parade and Indianapolis 500 pre-race parade. In 1977, he joined Diesel Injection Co., Louisville, working in tool and die and designing their corporate logo. After retiring in 1984, he and his wife moved to Vancouver, Canada, to be near his younger brother, Hans, and his family. Kurt and his wife lived their final years in Fairfield in the care of their daughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hildegard; his older brother, Hugo of Karlsruhe; and his son-in-law, John C. Bell, formerly of Lewisport.
He is survived by his daughter, Doris Bell of Fairfield; a brother, Hans Richter and his wife, Hannelore, with a son, Herbert, of Vancouver, Canada; a cousin, Frances Richter of Lakewood, N.J.; two nephews, Horst and Claus Richter and their families of Karlsruhe; a grandson, William Bell and his wife, Nicole, with children, Wesley and Faith, of Albany, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Sandra Cohen and her husband, Kurt, with children, Kelsey and Samantha, of Fairfield.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. today at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m., with Father David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Memory Garden cemetery in Hawesville.
Maggie Gray Ramsey

HAWESVILLE - Maggie Gray Ramsey, 55, of Hawesville died Monday, March 7, 2005, at her home. She was born in Hawesville on Aug. 9, 1949, to the late William and Nell Marsh Gray. She was a member of Immaculate Conception in Hawesville and was a housewife. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Gray of Hawesville.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Randall "Randy" T. Ramsey; a son, Scott Ramsey and his wife, Pam, of Hawesville; a daughter, Kimmy Stearsman and her husband, Steve, of Hartford; four grandchildren, Heather Ramsey, Luke Ramsey, Shelby Stearsman and Dylan Stearsman; and two half brothers, Donnie Flake of Louisville and David Alexander of Pellville.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at Immaculate Conception in Hawesville, with Father David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery in Hawesville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville. Prayers are at 7:15 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Joseph E. Owens

HARTFORD - Joseph E. Owens, 75, of 124 Taffy Tower Road, Hartford, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Daviess County to the late Nonnie Owens and Odescia Davis Owens. He retired from Motorola Co. in Phoenix as a pipe fitter and was a member of Bells Run Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and enjoyed bird watching, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his best friend, Wanda Jacob of Whitesville; a brother, E.D. "Al" Owens and his wife, Lois, of Owensboro; a sister, Mary Christian and her husband, Edwin, of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces, Bob and Mike Wedding, Mary McDaniel, David, Bill, Robin and Jeff Owens and Jacki Majors.
Services are at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Bells Run Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will be in Bells Run Baptist Church cemetery in Whitesville.
