BREMEN - James "Buddy" Stewart, 67, of Bremen died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He retired from ICC Railroad and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Granny" Stewart; three sons, Roger Stewart, Ronnie Stewart and Donnie Stewart; two brothers, Cletus Stewart and Clyde Stewart; and a sister, Vernel Higgins.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Mount Pisgah cemetery. Visitation: From 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Fred M. Heim

Fred M. Heim, 87, of 3002 Chippewa Drive, Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Philadelphia and was retired from the Philco Co. after 10 years and General Electric Co. after 20 years as an engineer. He was a member of the Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church, the Shiloh Masonic Lodge No. 558 F&AM in Lansdale, Pa., the Evansville Chapter No. 107 and the Owensboro Chapter No. 202 of the Mended Hearts Association, and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He obtained his pilot's license after attending the Rising Sun Aircraft School in Pennsylvania and attended Temple University Community College & Technical Institute.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marie Heim; two daughters, Janice Parker Pulliam and her husband Louis of Owensboro and Karen Heim Baugh of Evansville; and three grandchildren, Jay Parker and his wife Kelly of Louisville, Jill Parker of Lexington and Robb Baugh of Evansville.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 1215 Scherm Road, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Mae Long, 84, of 7241 Highway 81, Owensboro died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She had worked for St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, Ind., and was a member of Crown Point Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Long Jr.; three sons, William Edward Estep, Roy A. Estep and Oral Estep Jr.; two daughters, Ethel Mae Vanover and Esther Faye Ponders; and a sister, Mary Lou Smith.
Services: Wednesday at Burdan Funeral Home in Cedar Lake, Ind. Burial: Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, Ind. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
William E. Houtchen Jr.

CLOVERPORT - William E. Houtchen Jr., 32, of Cloverport died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at University Hospital in Louisville. He was born June 13, 1972, in Landshul, Germany. He was employed at Dal Tile in Lewisport and was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and an avid supporter of the Cloverport school sports and was a soccer coach.
Survivors include his wife, Molly Houtchen of Cloverport; four daughters, Tiffany Houtchen, Kimmie Houtchen, Kayla Houtchen and Megan Houtchen, all of Cloverport; two sons, Christopher Houtchen and Dakota Houtchen of Cloverport, both of Cloverport; his parents, June and William E. Houtchen of Cloverport; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Tony Bennett of Cloverport; his paternal grandparents, Dorothy and Russell Salmon of Cloverport; and a nephew, Kyle Bennett of Cloverport.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport with Father Gary Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Cloverport cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. at Wallace Funeral Home.

McLEANSBORO, Ill. - Lawrence L. Wiggins, 73, of Owensboro died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. He had worked as a truck driver for American Welding and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wiggins; three sons, Lawrence L. "Larry" Wiggins Jr., David Lee Wiggins and Douglas L. Wiggins; a daughter, Vickie Hughes; a stepson, Gary Spainhoward; three stepdaughters, Lori Mendoza, Kimberly Sikes and Mischelle Crabtree; and two sisters, Ruth Edmonds and Audrey Manley.

Dulcie Bryant Phelps

Dulcie Bryant Phelps, 86, formerly of 411 Lisbon Drive, Owensboro, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born on Aug. 25, 1917, in Butler County to the late Odie and Bertha (Embry) Bryant. She retired from General Electric Co. after 18 years of service. She was of the Pentecostal faith and loved making quilts and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Phelps, on Aug. 30, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Martine Phelps Kluck of Owensboro; three grandchildren, James "J.C." Kluck of Owensboro, Janie Huff of Centertown and Anna Kluck of Owensboro; seven great-grandchildren, April Chenault, Christopher Kluck, Amanda Cotton, Dustin Cotton, Nathan Kluck, Daniel Huff and Amy Kluck; two great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Kluck and Hannah Kluck; a half brother, Willard Bryant; a half sister, Bonnie Browning; and a stepbrother, Edmund Cockrell, all of Louisville.
Services are at noon Saturday, July 3, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

BELTON - Vernell Williams McPherson, 81, of Belton died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was a homemaker and a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Shelby McPherson and Howard McPherson; three daughters, Eva Jean McKinney, Dorothy Knight and Fay Brown; two brothers, Benny Williams and Paul Williams; and three sisters, Lorene Powell, Virdie Stone and Modell Bullard.

HENDERSON - Josie Marie Peters, 85, of Henderson died at 3:58 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Redbanks Nursing Center. She was a member of Advanced Baptist Church in Baskett and was preceded in death by two daughters, Doris Williams and Shirley Peters.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith Newman of Hebbardsville; six sons, Kenneth Peters of Owensboro, Ronald Peters of Henderson, Donald Peters of Henderson, Eddie Ray Peters of Owensboro, Joey Peters of Owensboro and Larry Peters of Owensboro; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, 629 S. Green St., Henderson, with the Rev. Don Duncan and the Rev. Hal Branson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion cemetery in Reed. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday after 8 a.m. at the funeral home. Thelma E. Farmer

Thelma E. Farmer, 89, of 1924 Poinsetta Lane, Maitland, Fla., formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at her family home on Stratford Drive in Owensboro. A native of Kentucky, she devoted her life to her family. She was a member of Third Baptist Church where she served the Lord with faithfulness and devotion. Thelma enjoyed accompanying her family on business and pleasure trips and obtained a private pilot's license in her 50s because her husband, the late Fred C. Farmer, who died March 21, 1998, loved to fly.
Survivors include a daughter, Marijane Farmer of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a son, Gary E. Farmer of Maitland; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Entombment will be in Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice or Third Baptist Church, Christian Life Center, 527 Allen St., Owensboro, KY 42303. Louva Ford Medley

Louva Ford Medley, 90, of Owensboro died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Ohio County, Mrs. Medley was retired from Medley Distillery and was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Wathen Medley, in 1953; and a son, James Bernard Medley, in 1991.
She is survived by two sons, Byron Edwin Medley and George Edward Medley, both of Canton, Texas; two daughters, Cora Ellen Hall of Elizabethtown and Margaret Stanley of Conroe, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, C.W. Ford of Cromwell and Harlan B. Ford of Crown Point, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to James B. Medley Memorial Fund, c/o Owensboro Catholic High School or Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens.
Matilda Ellen 'Tillie' Bickett

SMITHFIELD - Matilda Ellen "Tillie" Bickett of Smithfield, formerly of Whitfield, died peacefully at home with her family on Monday, June 14, 2004. She was born on Sept. 2, 1921, in Hardinsburg. She lived most of her life in Whitesville in Daviess County. James C. "Tuck" Bickett, her husband of 42 years, preceded her in death. Mrs. Bickett was a former member of St. Mary of the Woods parish in Whitesville where she served in numerous capacities for the service of the church including her work with the Legion of Mary and the annual church picnic. Prior to her marriage to Tuck, she worked in public jobs, including the shipyards in Evansville during World War II as a welder for the war effort. She was a homemaker and seamstress and, jointly with her husband, ran the family farm. Mrs. Bickett and her son Sam relocated to Smithfield in 1998. She resided there with Delvenia and Jack Stumph until her death.
She leaves behind 13 children, Mary Frances Howard of Whitesville, Claudia Ellen Applebee of Bowling Green, James Paul Bickett of Baton Rouge, La., Doris Faith Schooler of Newburgh, Ind., Barbara Lois Bickett and Nora Lucille Bickett of Prospect, Dinah Marie Devoto of Villa Hills, Paula Jane Shaw of Crestwood, Samuel Joseph Bickett and Susan Delvenia Stumph of Smithfield and Lillian Antoinette Holliger, Cornelia Geraldine Ellis and Martha Josephine Paulin of Louisville; 34 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Joe Whitfill, Guy Whitfill, Lonnie Whitfill, Margaret Matthews, Ebbie Tanner, Emily Bland, Jean Powers and Ruth Hazelwood.
Cecil Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Whitesville. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday. The Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. The Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville.
