WALNUT COVE, N.C. - Stella Stovall Gossett, 97, of Walnut Cove, formerly of Muhlenberg County, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Walnut Cove nursing home. She was a housewife and member of Akron (Ohio) Baptist Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Gossett; and a son, Jim Gossett.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Riffle; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services and burial were Friday. Prentiss Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio, was in charge of arrangements.
James F. Ritter

James F. Ritter, 64, of Utica died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Flint, Mich., native retired as an auto body repair specialist. He enjoyed fishing and yardwork. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Ritter, in 1994; and a daughter, Maureen Ritter, in 1984.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Sharon A. Ritter; a son, James Ritter of Utica; seven daughters, Kimberly Bickett and Sheryl Pomeroy, both of Flint, Dorinda Sosh, Lisa Collier and Jody Dodd, all of Owensboro, Robin Collier of Marion, Ohio, and Jolene Ritter of Utica; 21 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Visitation is after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Make A Wish Foundation Children Network, 100 W. Clarendon, Phoenix, MS 85013.
Mary S. O'Bryan

Mary S. O'Bryan, 83, of 1801 Hillbridge Road, Owensboro, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Stanley native retired from General Electric as group leader and was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. She was a member of Silver Bells Group and Daviess County Homemakers in Madisonville. She was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed making quilts and collecting carnival glass. Her husband, Joseph G. O'Bryan, died in 1983.
Survivors include two brothers, Jack Strobel of London, England, and John Allen Strobel of Owensboro; a sister, Agnes Davis of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Burial will be in St. Peter cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

BOWLING GREEN - Howard Douglas Craddock, 87, of Bowling Green died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Rosewood Health Care Center. The Hart County native retired from Holley Carburetor as an inspector and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Holland Craddock; a son, James Edward Craddock of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a daughter, Ann Craddock Ellis of Sacramento; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Louis Craddock of Bowling Green, Leslie Craddock of Franklin and Robert Craddock of Glendale, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth Reinertsen of Bowling Green; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 11:30 a.m. today at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapel, Lovers Lane, in Bowling Green. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery in Bowling Green. POWDERLY - Elsie Bratcher, 80, of Louisville, formerly of Powderly, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Caritas Hospital in Louisville. The Muhlenberg County native was a homemaker and member of Community Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include a son, Harold De Hart of Louisville; a daughter, Patricia Holderbaum of Louisville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
J.D. Rogers

J.D. Rogers, 70, of Whitesville died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at his home after a lengthy illness. The Ohio County native retired from Orbit Gas Co. in Owensboro. He was a member of Eaton Memorial Baptist Church and the Whitesville Senior Citizens, where he served on the board of directors. He enjoyed NASCAR, gardening and time with family.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Margie C. Rogers; four sons, Jerry W. Rogers, Michael S. Rogers and Richard A. Rogers, all of Owensboro, and David G. Rogers of Whitesville; a daughter, Mary R. Lomenick of Iuka, Miss.; nine grandchildren; a brother, James L. Rogers of Wichita, Kan.; and a sister, Gola Mae Rogers of Owensboro.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. DICKSON, Tenn. - Nan Oliphant Barber, 69, of Dickson, formerly of Owensboro, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at National Health Care Center in Dickson. She retired as a school teacher after 38 years of teaching in Dickson, Nashville and Owensboro and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dickson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nanette Marksberry.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Don Barber; a son, Donald G. Barber of Dalton, Ga.; three grandchildren; a brother, Edward Oliphant of Vanleer, Tenn.; a sister, Sue Yates of Warren, Mich.; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson. Interment will be in Dickson Union cemetery, Williams Addition. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Willowbrook Hospice, 1335 W. Main St., Suite A, Franklin, TN.

BUFFALO - Mildred Ilene Macdonald Taylor Wiegand, 74, of Buffalo, formerly of Ohio County, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at her home. The Detroit native retired from Montpelier Glove Factory and was a homemaker. She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and South Fork Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Owen Iler Taylor in 1976, and John Wiegand on Aug. 26, 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Taylor of Dewitt, Mich., and Feb I. Taylor of Owensboro; three daughters, Geraldine Chinn of Montgomery, Ala., Jacqueline Devore of Buffalo and Imogene Taylor of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Macdonald of Warren, Mich., Phillip Macdonald of Yale, Mich., and Ross Macdonald of Applegate, Mich.; and two sisters, Rozella Olszewski of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Yvonne Moretto of Titusville, Fla.
Private graveside services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at West Providence Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.
Georgia Frazier Reed

LOUISVILLE - Georgia Frazier Reed, 71, of Louisville, formerly of Powderly, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at her home in Louisville. The Powderly native was a member of West End Baptist Church in Louisville and had worked at Swift Meat Packing Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, McKinley Reed, in 1992; and a son, Ronnie Keith Reed.
Survivors include two sons, McKinley Reed and the Rev. Jerome Reed, both of Louisville; two daughters, Jacquelin Stone and Lynette Thomas, both of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbert Frazier of Paducah; a sister, Jessie Shelton of Greenville; several nephews and nieces; and several cousins.
Services are at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday at West End Baptist Church in Louisville. Burial will be in Browder cemetery. Visitation is after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Bibbs Funeral Home in Greenville is handling arrangements.

GREENVILLE - James Oliver Jessup, 73, of Greenville died there Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native retired from Peabody Coal Co. as a miner. He was a Korean War veteran and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Woodson Jessup; a son, Alan Bruce Jessup of Blue Springs, Mo.; a daughter, Kimberly Jane Locke of Greenville; three grandchildren; a brother, Pete B. Jessup of Greenville; and two sisters, Martha A. Sweeney and Wanda June Jones, both of Central City.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Greens Chapel cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association.

BONNIEVILLE - Minnie Arnett Smith Williams, 82, of Bonnieville died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Horse Cave. She was a member of Campground Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 191 in Bonnieville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William P. Smith and Willis Williams; and a son, Walter Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Norma Smith of Bonnieville and Wanda Green of Owensboro; two stepsons, Jim Williams of Iowa and Tom Williams of Radcliff; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and two half brothers, Floyd Crump and Otis Crump, both of Bonnieville.
Services are at 11 a.m. EDT Tuesday at Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia. Burial will be in Bonnieville cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. EDT today at the funeral home.

MCQUADY - James Henry Bishop, 59, of McQuady died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at his home. The Glen Dean native had worked for Dunaway Timber as a logger.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Howard Bishop; two sons, Jason Howard of Guston and Aaron Matthews of Falls of Rough; three daughters, Sirena Davis of Greensburg, Sissy Ford of Centertown and Nina Valdez of Adaburg; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Bishop of Glen Dean and Calvin Spaulding of Falls of Rough; and a sister, Betty Phillips of Falls of Rough.
