BROWDER - Harold Ray Vick, 65, of Browder died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Muhlenberg County native was a coal miner and member of Browder General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Aline Douglas Vick; two sons, Ray Vick of Greenbrier, Tenn., and Chuck Vick of Smyrna, Tenn.; two daughters, Susie Phelps and Sandy Drake, both of Browder; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; his mother, Susie Vick of Browder; and a brother, Darris Vick of Okeechobee, Fla.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont. Burial will be in Union Ridge cemetery in Belton. Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Bertha Mae Evans Howard

MORGANTOWN - Bertha Mae Evans Howard, 82, of Beaver Dam died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at her home. The Butler County native was a homemaker and member of Slaty Creek Baptist Church and Rosine Association.
Survivors include her husband, Eldon Dean Howard; three sons, Glenn Pirtle and Kenneth Pirtle, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Gary Pirtle of Montpelier, Ohio; a daughter, Sandra Waechter of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Chapel in Morgantown. Burial will be in Green River cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Julia Ann Ralph

Julia Ann Ralph, 59, of Owensboro died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at her home. The Perry County native was a homemaker. Her first husband, James Russel Blake, died in 1968.
Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Billy Wayne Ralph of Owensboro; three sons, Joseph Merrill Blake, Johnny Blake and Allen Ray Chinn, all of Owensboro; three daughters, Bonita "Carol" Hardin of Beaver Dam, Shannon Creilson of Owensboro and Jenny Turner of Hartford; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; six brothers, Orlis Melton of Greenville, Homer Melton of Central City, Junior Melton of Powderly, Tony Melton of Knottsville, Chester Melton of Whitesville and Roger Melton of Pleasant Ridge; and five sisters, Geneva Cornett of Fordsville, Lula Shephard of Echols, Juanita Walker of Morgantown, Ruby Spradlin of Hartford and Mable Gayhart of Maynardville, Tenn.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is after noon today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice or Julia Ann Ralph Memorial.

Richard L. McFarland Jr., 60, of Owensboro died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in Posey County (Ind.) from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. The Owensboro native was CEO, president and owner of Packaging Unlimited of Western Kentucky and a member of St. Paul AME Church. He served on the H.L. Neblett Community Center and the Owensboro-Daviess County Chamber of Commerce boards. He was a member of Noon Rotary Club, NAACP and enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. McFarland; a son, Richard L. McFarland III of Staten Island, N.Y.; five daughters, Tonya Raché Simpson of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Tina Renee McFarland of Henderson, Tricia Rose Kendrick of Louisville and Gail Lynn McFarland and Creasie Wynette McFarland, both of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; his parents, the Rev. & Mrs. R.L. McFarland of Owensboro; four brothers, Freddie R. McFarland, Dwight T. McFarland and Roger S. McFarland, all of Owensboro, and Alison S. McFarland of Campinas, Brazil; and three sisters, Nestra M. McFarland of Owensboro, Patricia R. Oberg of Bountiful, Utah, and Susan McFarland of Salt Lake City.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fourth Street Baptist Church in Owensboro. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Paul AME Church in Owensboro. McFarland Funeral Home in Owensboro is handling arrangements.
Billy Dan McCaskill

MONROE, La. - Billy Dan McCaskill, 74, of Monroe, formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at North Monroe Medical Center. He worked at Texas Gas Transmission Corp. in Owensboro in 1951, transferred to Louisiana in 1952 and retired as a communication specialist in 1988 after 37 years.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Nannie Jean Meador McCaskill; a son, Roy Everett McCaskill of Monroe; a daughter, Judy Evelyn Corkern of West Monroe, La.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Alton McCaskill of Florida and Allen McCaskill of Nashville.
Services and burial were Sunday in Monroe. Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe was in charge of arrangements.

CENTRAL CITY - Venita Mae Hoops, 72, of Central City died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Muhlenberg County native was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Skaggs of McHenry; two sisters, Helen Blake of Beaver Dam and Doris Gregory of Henderson; several nephews and nieces; and several cousins.

Alisa Ann Boone, 40, of Wendell Foster Center, Owensboro, died there Monday, Oct. 15, 2001. The Daviess County native was disabled, a member of Pleasant Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed country music.
Survivors include her mother, Alma Jean Boone of Owensboro; three brothers, David Boone of Fall Branch, Tenn., and Bruce Boone and Jeff Boone, both of Owensboro; a sister, Mary Survant of Owensboro; five nephews; and two nieces.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Memorial Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. HARTFORD - Elvis H. Travis, 64, of Hartford died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at his home. The Hartford native retired from LTV Steel Co.
Survivors include his wife, Mary N. Travis; three sons, Danny Travis and James Travis, both of Hartford, and Carl Travis of Zanesville, Ohio; a daughter, Judy Wilson of Eaton, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Barnett of Dyer, Tenn., and Margie Wayman of Hammond, Ind.

RUSSELLVILLE - Hazel June Woodlee, 80, of Russellville died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. The Huntsville native was a homemaker and member of Plainview General Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Freddie Woodlee; three sons, Freddie Wayne Woodlee of Lewisburg and Gary Woodlee and Terry Woodlee, both of Russellville; a daughter, Linda Boone of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delbert Staples of Belton and Harold Staples of Dunmor; and three sisters, Ilene Baugh of Dunmor, Mildred Gibson of Dayton, Ohio, and Clara White of Russellville.

LEWISBURG - Verna Mae Mason, 88, of Lewisburg died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville. The McLean County native was a homemaker and member of Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Mason.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Lou Hudson of Lewisburg; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.

ISLAND - Margaret Elizabeth Brown, 95, of Island died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Professional Care Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hartford. The Rumsey native was a homemaker, member of Buttonsberry Baptist Church in McLean County and enjoyed gardening and quilting. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Crawford in 1937, and Ivan M. Brown on Jan. 29, 1988; and a son, James Crawford in 1973.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Jordan of Royal Oak, Mich., and Janice Rowe of Lewisport; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Henry Ballantine of Calhoun.
Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in New Cypress cemetery in McLean County. Joseph W. Bartlett

Joseph W. Bartlett, 83, of 2253 Hoop Jr. Court, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired as a farmer and was a deacon and member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served 34 months, receiving a bronze battle star, a European, African and Middle Eastern campaign ribbon, and the Purple Heart while fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Faye Bartlett.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Juanita Bartlett; two sons, Doug Bartlett of Madison, Ala., and Stanley Bartlett of Maceo; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hoover Bartlett of Owensboro and Wayman Bartlett of Frankfort; and a sister, Dorothy Jennings of Madisonville.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
