LEWISPORT -- Vincent H. Payne, 86, of Lewisport died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at his home. The Hancock County native retired as a mechanic from Harry Holder and Payne Automotive after 33 years and was a lifetime member of St. William Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Anna Sue Isbill Payne; two sons, Ernie Payne of Lewisport and Gary Payne of Owensboro; a daughter, Barbara Ann Huskisson of Lewisport; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. William Catholic Church in Knottsville. Burial will be in St. William cemetery in Knottsville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Edward G. 'Bob' Payne

WHITESVILLE -- Edward G. "Bob" Payne, 86, of Whitesville died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in Bradenton, Fla., at his daughter's home. The Daviess County native was a self-employed carpenter and contractor and a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Glenn Payne in 1968 and Darrell Payne in 1951.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Payne of Ashville, N.C., Danny Payne of Owensboro and Tony Payne of New Hampshire; two daughters, Sherry Troutman of Bradenton, Fla., and Sue Burton of Sarasota, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, S.B. "Bill" Payne of Owensboro.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice.
Marion A. Dickens Slinker

Marion A. Dickens Slinker of Owensboro died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Milwaukee Hospital in Milwaukee from cancer. The Whitesville native retired from General Electric Co. after 37 years and was a member of SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry L. Slinker and Michael D. Slinker, both of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Westerfield of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.
Services were Tuesday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Interment was in Holy Cross cemetery in Milwaukee. Church and Chapel Funeral Service in Milwaukee was in charge of arrangements.
Chester N. Brownd

OLATON -- Chester N. Brownd, 84, of Olaton died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville. The Olaton native retired from Young Manufacturing Co. in Beaver Dam and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anna N. Brownd; two sons, Chester L. Brownd and Charles Brownd, both of Olaton; three daughters, Mary Brooks of Tallahassee, Fla., Shirley McDaniel of Beaver Dam and Anna Brooks of Olaton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorene Burton of Olaton.
Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Fairview Church cemetery in Olaton. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bettie Carroll Pierson, 72, of Owensboro died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at her sister's home. The Whitesville native was a member of Whitesville Christian Church and enjoyed spending time with her friends and neighbors.
Survivors include her father, Elmo G. Clark of Owensboro; two sisters, Nancy Marsh and Barbara Boyle, both of Owensboro; two nephews; and eight nieces.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Whitesville Christian Church or Hospice.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Dorothy Underhill, 89, of Fort Lauderdale died Friday, July 27, 2001, at her home. The Spencer County, Ind., native retired from Westinghouse Electric Co., was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church and enjoyed crafts and crocheting. Her husband, James Underhill, died in 1972.
Survivors include a son, John Underhill of Fort Lauderdale; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mabel R. Wiggins

BEECH GROVE -- Mabel R. Wiggins, 77, of Beech Grove died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Webster County native was a homemaker and retired from the former Charles Chip Factory in Calhoun. She graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1942 and was a member of Beech Grove Christian Church. Her husband, Alfred N. Wiggins, died May 17, 1989.
Survivors include a son, Rick Wiggins of Beech Grove; two daughters, Shelia Stewart of Beech Grove and Becky Stratton of Sebree; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert "Sonny" Riggs of Beechmont.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Bethel Baptist cemetery in McLean County. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Beech Grove Christian Church, Building Fund.

CENTERTOWN -- William Irvin Brown, 86, of Centertown died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Ohio County native retired as a farmer and school bus driver from the Ohio County Board of Education. He was a deacon and member of West Point Baptist Church in Matanzas.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ashby Brown; and a daughter, Rebecca Berryman of Centertown.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Centertown. Burial will be in Centertown cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

LOUISVILLE -- Pamela D. Hatchett Heard, 30, of Louisville died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at her home. The Louisville native was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen Heard; a daughter, Kesha Hatchett Heard of Louisville; her parents, Delbert Hatchett of Owensboro and Willie P. Hatchett of Louisville; two brothers, Tommy L. Armstrong of Germany and Ronald Hatchett of Louisville; and seven sisters, Angela Hatchett and Stephanie D. Hatchett, both of Louisville, Angela M. Hatchett and Carolyn Y. Hatchett, both of St. Louis, Michele P. Miller of Cincinnati, Debbie Drane of Cloverport and Veronica E. McBride of Owensboro.

KUTTAWA -- Ethel Mae Jennings, 90, of Bremen died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa after a short illness. The Muhlenberg County native was an active member of East Union Missionary Baptist Church and retired as head cook of Bremen schools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Opal Garld Jennings, in 1982; and a daughter, Gladys Newman Bowles, in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Garld Jennings of Ball Ground, Ga.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Paul Jarvis of Powderly; a sister, Flora Case of Bremen; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah cemetery in Bremen. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

BREMEN -- Mildred Hopgood, 85, of Bremen died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville. The Muhlenberg County native was a homemaker and member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bremen. Her husband, John Hopgood, died in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Carl Ray Hopgood of Central City and John Wayne Hopgood of Bremen; two daughters, Barbara Settle of Bremen and Nadia Key of Central City; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah cemetery in Bremen. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
