Clara Mae Ford

Clara Mae Ford, 66, of 1524 Breckinridge St., Owensboro, died there Saturday, May 12, 2001, at her home. The Daviess County native retired from General Electric in the Mounting Department and from Daviess County Hospital. She was a member of SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed walking, her pets, gardening and family cookouts. Her husband, Archie Kenneth Ford, died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Bobby J. Ford of Owensboro; a daughter Jo Ann Murphy of Whitesville; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Gloria Faye Miller of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Martha Ellen Aubrey and Mary Nancy Smith, both of Owensboro.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association.
Dorris L. Leonard

Dorris L. Leonard, 72, of 2324 North Stratford Drive, Owensboro, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native was a member of Parrish Avenue Baptist Church and owned and operated Leonard's Fine Foods. She enjoyed fishing and NASCAR racing.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Gertrude Leonard; two sons, Danny Leonard of Owensboro and David Leonard of Utica; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Armendeze and Anette Corkley, both of Florida.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at a later date. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after noon Sunday at the funeral home.

KINCAID, Ill. -- Joyce Lee Cook, 63, of Kincaid died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Pana Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Bobbie Cook Sr.; two sons, Bobbie Cook Jr. of Kincaid, Ill., and Timothy Cook of Taylorville, Ill.; two daughters, Laquita Spizner of Flora, Ill., and Kay Givens of Tovey, Ill.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
David S. Ferrell

HOPKINSVILLE -- David S. Ferrell, 87, of Hopkinsville, formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville after a brief illness. The Sebree native was owner and operator of Ferrell's Snappy Service in Hopkinsville and a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Cecil Doris Ferrell; a son, Phillip W. Ferrell of Madisonville; a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Fitzpatrick of Hopkinsville; five grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Monday at Riverside cemetery in Hopkinsville. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a favorite charity.

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. -- Jacqueline Iversen, 71, of Hendersonville, formerly of Cannelton, Ind., died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House in Hendersonville of leukemia. The Cannelton native was a 1948 graduate of Cannelton High School and worked in public administration in California for 21 years. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and studied music at Blue Ridge Community College. She was an avid singer and fine classical pianist. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold W. Truempy, in 1964; her second husband, Martin Iversen, in 1992; and a daughter, Deborah Dalton.
Survivors include four sons, Randy Truempy of Hendersonville, Eric Truempy of Rutherfordton, N.C., Gregory Truempy of Asheville, N.C., and Paul Iversen of Washingtonville, N.Y.; a daughter, Lisa Iversen of Simi Valley, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, John Minto of Hendersonville; and a sister, Mary Nell Plane of Indianapolis.
Memorial services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cliff cemetery in Cannelton. Huber Funeral Home in Cannelton is handling arrangements.
Jane Sullivan Cahalan

Jane Sullivan Cahalan, 80, of 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at the Carmel Home. The Houston native was a homemaker, artist and card shark. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Women of the Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered for the Wendell Foster Center and was an Elder and Deacon for First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Davis Sullivan; and her second husband, John Francis Cahalan Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Rob Sullivan of Houston and Rick Sullivan of Trinity, N.C.; two daughters, Shelby Shackelford of Sand Springs, Okla., and Sister Sharon Sullivan of Owensboro; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Glenn A. Hicks, 69, of Natchitoches, formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Natchitoches Parrish Hospital. The Knott County native was a retired letter carrier, member of Hall Street Baptist Church and a Korean War veteran. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed playing country western and gospel music on his guitar.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Glenn Hicks and Timothy Wayne Hicks, both of Owensboro; a daughter, Sharon Hicks Atherton of Owensboro; five grandchildren; his mother, Knonah Hicks of Florence; two brothers, Charles Hicks of Covington and Lloyd Hicks of Bellevue, Ohio; and a sister, Ruth Schroth of Fort Wright.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

POWDERLY -- Clifton N. Abbott, 83, of Powderly died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Butler County native retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority as a machinist. He was a Baptist and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Whittinghill Abbott; two sons, Danny Abbott of Central City and Larry Abbott of Chicago; three daughters, Julia Green of Elizabethtown, Tressa Cullen of Madisonville and Penny Buckingham of Seymour, Ind.; two stepsons, Harold Adler and David Adler, both of Indianapolis; three stepdaughters, Barbara Everly of Central City, Nancy Clark of Indianapolis and Judy Croxton of Drakesboro; seven grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, James Abbott of Newburgh, Ind.; and two sisters, Ava Jenkins of Morgantown and Irene Abbott of Indianapolis.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in Butler County. Visitation is after 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Floydia M. Henry Bell, 72, of Owensboro died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Owensboro native was a Baptist and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Victor Bell; four sons, Barry Johnson of Rockport, Ind., Victor Johnson, Henry Johnson and Tracy Johnson, all of Owensboro; three daughters, Blenda Johnson Board and Angela Johnson, both of Owensboro, and Kathy Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Forrest "Buck" Henry of Louisville; two sisters, Barbara Buckner and Melvina Tolliver, both of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Zion Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McFarland Funeral Home in Owensboro.

DUNMOR -- J.I. Whitaker, 64, of Dunmor died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Penrod native worked at Supervalu as a supervisor and was a member of Dunmor Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patty DeArmond Whitaker; a son, Terry Dwayne Whitaker of Dunmor; and five sisters, Carrie Bailey and Betty Hunt, both of Lewisburg, Dora Crawford of Lebanon, Tenn., Beulah Gibson of Penrod and Rena Milspaugh of California.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home Inc. in Lewisburg. Burial will be in Dunmor cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary Alice Allen

Mary Alice Allen, 79, of 25 River Road, Owensboro, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at her home. The Daviess County native retired from Medleys Distillery and Ahrons Strawberry Nursery in Huntingburg, Ind., and was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, Elizabeth Munday Senior Citizens, Sacred Heart and St. Jude. Her husband, Earl Allen, died in January 1977.
Survivors include three sons, James Earl Allen of Owensboro, Joseph Lee Allen of Hawesville and William Edward Allen of Owensboro; two daughters, Margaret Jolly of Sorgho and Patricia Deno of Huntingburg, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Paul Roberts of Jacksonville, Fla.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10:30 Wednesday at Haley McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home.
