Kirk Bradley
30 January 2001

Kirk Bradley, 85, of Utica died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Bozeman, Mont., native was a retired electrician and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Utica Masonic Lodge, Acacia Eastern Star and Owensboro White Shrine of Jerusalem. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 1701, Green River Valley and Kentucky Bee Association. His wife, Ruby Bradley, died Dec. 16, 1990, and a son, Anthony Bradley, died March 8, 1999.

Survivors include a companion, Cova Hale; a daughter, Marceil Arnold of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; three grandchildren; a sister, Mary Alice Caudill of South Point, Ohio; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic services are at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association, 1941 Bishop Lane, Suite 110, Louisville, KY 40218 or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 120 Wall St., New York, NY 10005.

Bella Allison

GREENVILLE -- Bella Allison, 84, of Greenville died there Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Belle Meade Nursing Home. She was a Gary, Ind., native. Her husband, Oscar David Allison, died April 27, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Ramsey of Jacksonville, Fla., and John Sarafin of Hammond, Ind.; a daughter, Lynne Bosley of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Millie Elibasich of Merrillville, Ind.

Services will be private. There is no visitation. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a favorite charity.

Anna E. 'Dolly' Martin
30 January 2001

BEAVER DAM -- Anna E. "Dolly" Martin, 79, of Beaver Dam died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. The Ohio County native retired from Beaver Dam Deposit Bank and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Her husband, William Maurice "Mossy" Martin, died June 11, 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Martin Walters of Beaver Dam; a grandchild; and a sister, Bess Caudle of Hopkinsville.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Ohio County.

Mary Ozetta Kessinger
29 January 2001

Mary Ozetta Kessinger, 85, 1751 E. 26th St., Owensboro, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Daviess County native retired from the bottling department at Glenmore Distillery after 36 years and was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. A son, William Sherman Pickrell, died in 1995.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gova "Eddie" Kessinger; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph William Montgomery of Whitesville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at noon Tuesday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret Mays
29 January 2001

Margaret Mays, 85, of Owensboro died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at her home. The Owensboro native was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the senior Bible study group and Nurses Guild. She was a former member of the senior choir and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Mays, on May 5, 1990, and two sons, Robert Kelly in 1996 and Godfrey Kelly in 1997.

Survivors include two sons, David Kelly and Phillip Kelly, both of Owensboro; three daughters, Deborah Hogg, Geneva Tyler and Reva Hanley, all of Owensboro; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Florence Perkins of Cincinnati and Roberta Woodard of Kansas City, Mo.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fourth Street Baptist Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. McFarland Funeral Home in Owensboro is handling arrangements.

William A. 'Bill' McSpedden
20 February 2001

GREENVILLE -- William A. "Bill" McSpedden, 84, of Greenville died there Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a brief illness. The Nashville native was a veteran of World War II. He was a manager of Palace Theater from 1945 to 1961 and worked for Greenville Fire Department from 1961 to 1979. He retired as a fire chief and was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church and Pond River Masonic Lodge 244, F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Edna McSpedden; three daughters, Donna Richardson and Helen Chappell, both Greenville, and Bee "Billie Jean" Ewing of Madisonville; four grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Greenville United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Shane Michael Akers
1 March 2001

Shane Michael Akers, 17, of 2928 Strawbridge Place, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System after an automobile accident. The Owensboro native was a senior at Owensboro High School and worked part time at Pepsi Cola in Owensboro. He was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church and enjoyed music, electronics and spending time with friends.

Survivors include his parents, Warren Stephen and Leisha Smith Akers of Owensboro; his paternal grandparents, Pauline and Wendell Reeks of Owensboro; his maternal grandparents, Charles E. Smith and Carlene M. Smith, both of Owensboro; a brother, Jacob Wesley Akers at home; several uncles and aunts; and cousins.

Arrangements are pending at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association.

Barbara Lee Smiley

CENTRAL CITY -- Barbara Lee Smiley, 52, of Central City died there Saturday, April 21, 2001, at her home. The Muhlenberg County native was a special education teacher's aide at Muhlenberg South High School. She was a member of Belton Beechmont Baptist Church and enjoyed family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Nolen Steve Smiley; two sons, Steven Wayne Smiley of Central City and Timothy Mark Smiley of Lucas; a grandson; her mother, Verda Jameson of Hartford; a brother, Freddie Wayne Jameson of Henderson; two sisters, Patricia Smiley of Hartford and Kathy Chambers of Greenville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will be in Bells Run cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Rev. Francis Aloysius Mastrovito
7 May 2001

CENTRAL CITY -- The Rev. Francis Aloysius Mastrovito, 76, of Central City died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the hospital in Greenville. The Indiana, Penn., native entered the Franciscan Community on Sept. 5, 1939, professed his vows on Sept. 23, 1943 and was ordained June 5, 1951. He had served as pastor at St. Joseph in Mayfield, S.S. Peter and Paul in Hopkinsville and was serving at St. Joseph Church in Central City.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church in Central City. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Altoona, Pa. Burial will be in St. Bernardins cemetery in Hollidaysburg, Pa. Visitation is at 5 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Joseph Parish in Central City or Franciscan Fathers at 806 11th St., Altoona, PA 16602.

Harry Powers
13 May 2001

MORGANFIELD -- Harry Powers, 79, of Morganfield died Friday, May 11, 2001, at V.A. Hospital in Marion, Ill., from complications of diabetes. He was a member of Operation Union Local 181, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past commander of VFW Post 5563.

Survivors include two sons, Harry Michael Powers of Clay and Kenneth Joseph Powers of Raleigh, N.C.; three daughters, Phyllis Hartley of Clay, Brenda Becerra of Wake Forest, N.C., and Judy Dreher of Medina, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Tom Powers of Cleveland, Hazel Powers of Morganfield, Jerry Powers of Louisville and Walter Powers of Owensboro; and eight sisters, Ozetta Huff, Odessa Lane, Omagean Powell, Betty McGrew and Jane Byrnes, all of Owensboro, Bertha Ralph of Utica, Evelyn Marquis of Macedonia, Ill., and Nancy Caplinn of Casper, Wyo.

Services are at 9 a.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Burial will be in Odd Fellow cemetery in Morganfield. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to VFW or American Diabetes Foundation.

Alta I. Arnold
17 May 2001

HARTFORD -- Alta I. Arnold, 62, of Hartford died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at her home. The Ohio County native retired from Cowden Manufacturing Co. in Beaver Dam. Her husband, Victor C. Arnold, died Aug. 29, 1972.

Survivors include her companion, Mike Gough of Maceo; a son, James Ivan Arnold of Owensboro; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Ivan Geary of Leitchfield; and three sisters, Phyllis Neighbors of Bowling Green, Veda Arnold of Louisville and Merida Beasley of Morgantown.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Ohio County.
