Betty Ruark
UNIONTOWN — Betty Doerr Ruark, 78, died of complications of a stroke Friday, March 23, 2001, at Union County Methodist Hospital.
She was a member of Uniontown Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Jacki Ruark of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, Mel of Garland, Texas, and Jerry of Morganfield; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, “Poochie, ” died in 1997, and a daughter, Donna Sherlock, in 2000.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home Morganfield Chapel, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery in Morganfield.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Uniontown Baptist Church.
John ‘J. C.’ Carter
HENDERSON — John Clayton “J. C.” Carter, 62, died of complications of diabetes Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Community Methodist Hospital.
He was a member of National Rifle Association.
Surviving are two stepsons, Orville Carter of Washington, Ind., and Kim Allen Carter of Indianapolis; five sisters, Lola White of Spottsville, Lillian Downing of Taylor Mill, Leola Henderson of Covington, Florene Stewart of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Margaret Dossett of Henderson; and a brother, Thomas of Reed. His wife, Clodean, died in 1997.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Mount Zion cemetery in Reed.

Anthony Jackson
OWENSBORO — Anthony “Tony” Jackson, 52, died of cancer Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health Systems.
He worked at Barton Brands Distillery. He was a member of Roseville Baptist Church in Hancock County and an assistant coach for the 14-Year-Old Babe Ruth League.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda (Frailey); a daughter, Mishele Jackson of Newburgh; two sons, David of Falls of the Rough and Junior of Owensboro; three sisters, Becky Gardner of Dunmore, Kathy Durbin of Lexington and Sonia Carlisle of Owensboro; and a brother, Ray of Owensboro.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes Calhoun Chapel, with burial in Calhoun cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to 14-Year-Old Babe Ruth League.
Shelby Gibson
PROVIDENCE — Shelby Jean Gibson, 63, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville of a heart condition.
She was a member of Providence General Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Dorris Eugene; a daughter, Pamela Newsome of Providence; a son, Kenneth of Providence; a sister, Shirley Sullivan of Dyer, Tenn.; four brothers, James Kirby of Henderson, Edward Kirby of East Tawas, Mich., Frank Kirby of Taylor, Mich., and Donald Kirby of Wyandotte, Mich.; three grandchildren, Tonya Clark, Daniel Gibson and Holly Rogers; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home, with burial in Shelton cemetery in Webster County.

Wilburn Branson
CLAY — Wilburn “Bish” Branson, 66, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.
He was a welder.
Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Jo Pinter of Maggie Valley, N.C., and Janie Gibson of Providence; a son, Eddie of Dixon; his mother, Opal Hughes of Providence; a sister, Viola Melton of Providence; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Jackie Bennett
OWENSBORO — Jackie Lee Bennett, 42, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his home. The Davies County coroner is determining the cause of death.
He was a truck driver.
He was a Vietnam War veteran and member of Life Revival Center.
Surviving are two daughters, Racheal and Jacqueline Bennett; his parents, Francis and Loryene Litton of Owensboro; two sisters, Robin Sue Sutherland of Alaska, and Nancy Sue Miller of Hagerstown, Md.; and a niece and nephew.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Rosehill cemetery.

CALHOUN — Mary Elma Hayden, 74, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System of congestive heart failure.
She was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Charles E.; two daughters, Linda Dant of Calhoun and Shirley Donahoo of Owensboro; a son, Charles L. of Calhoun; a sister, Florence Christie of Owensboro; a brother, Robert Ladd of Owensboro; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

HENDERSON — Charles McCullen McCauley, 85, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his home in Zion.
He was an interior decorator and operated Charlie’s Saw Shop.
He was a Navy veteran.
He was Pentecostal.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Magdalene; a daughter, Nadine Shock of Owensboro; a son, Jack of Shelbyville, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson.

MADISONVILLE — Myrtle Elizabeth Combs, 73, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center of liver failure.
She was a beautician.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a sister-in-law who cared for her, Jackie Combs; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Elbert Emerson Sr.
NORTONVILLE — Elbert V. Emerson Sr., 83, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Madisonville Medical Center.
He was a truck driver.
He was an Army veteran.
Surviving are three daughters, Reida Ann Tolliver of Arkansas, Betty Virge of Earlington and Vickie Jenkins of Sebree; six sons, William Wayne of Nortonville, Elbert V. Jr. of Gary, Ind., Clifford of Central City, Bryan of Lake Station, Ind., and Ricky and Charles, both of Madisonville; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. His wife, Betty, and a son, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bandy Funeral Home, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Madisonville.

MARION — Verble Mae Woodside, 89, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Crittenden County Convalescent Center.
She was a member of Cave Springs General Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Roy Hazzard of Marion; a niece and nephews. Her husband, Bethel, preceded her in death.

James Minton Jr.
NORTONVILLE — James Henry Minton Jr., 84, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.
He retired as a miner at the Cimarron Coal Co.
He was a World War II Army veteran and member of Lighthouse The Greater United Pentecostal Church.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie Mae (Green); five daughters, Dorothy Rhye and Mary Newkirk, both of Madisonville, Edna Adams of Nortonville, Susie McNiely of Hopkinsville and Betty Adcock of Dawson Springs; four sons, Bobby Joe and James Michael, both of Madisonville, Paul Thomas of Nortonville and Jesse David of Princeton, W.Va.; a sister, Edna Mae Thompson of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Jodie Lee of Clarksville, Tenn., and William Lewis of Wilmington, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Concord cemetery in White Plains, with military rites.
