Ila Griffin

HENDERSON - Ila D. 'Pert' Griffin, 76, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Select Specialty Hospital of congestive heart failure.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, where he was on the Baptism Committee.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Dottie Griffin; two daughters, Katherine Carter and Carla Haynes, both of Henderson; two sons, John S. 'Steve' Griffin of Henderson and Kenneth Griffin of Tracyton, Wash.; a brother, Paul 'Felix' Griffin of Henderson; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Dr. Eddie Davis officiating, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, with military rites.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Baptist Church.

Edwin Nichols

PRINCETON - Edwin Nichols, 85, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Caldwell County Hospital.

He was a retired postal worker.

He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member and deacon at Northside Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lois; a daughter, JoAnn Mitchell of Prospect; two sons, Gary of Hopkinsville, and Kenneth of Ellicott City, Md.; a sister, Mary Beth Heaton of Princeton; three brothers, Fred and Bill Nichols, both of Princeton, and Jack Nichols of Caldwell County; four grandchildren, David and Elizabeth Mitchell and Josh and Megan Nichols; a great-grandson, Evan Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Morgan's Funeral Home, the Rev. Tommy Tackett officiating, with burial in Cedar Hill cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pennyroyal Hospice.

Claude Peay

OWENSBORO - Claude E. Peay, 87, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.

He farmed for Kuegel Brothers Farms.

He was a member of Rushing Wind Church of God and played the guitar.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Frances (Wallace); four daughters, Mary Frances Kellems, Carolyn Kaye Dillon, Pamela Faye Keller and Norma Jean Outlaw, all of Owensboro; two sons, Claude Randall and William Ray, both of West Louisville; a sister, Eva Mae 'Evy' Birkett of Evansville; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Peay.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Infant Angelica Hambrick

BREMEN - Angelica Amy Jo Hambrick, daughter of Manda Meinert and Darrin Hambrick of Bremen, died shortly after birth Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.

Also surviving are her grandparents, Debra Neal, Scott Meinert, Betty Hambrick and Donnie Hambrick.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Rose Hill cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home in Central City is handling arrangements.

Maurice Robertson

HENDERSON - Maurice Robertson, 73, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at his home. The Henderson County coroner is determining the cause of death.

He was a truck driver.

Surviving are a brother, Ernest of Henderson; and Mary Johnson, who cared for him.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, with burial pending.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Osborne Funeral Home in Evansville is handling arrangements.

Ernest Verne Jr.

MADISONVILLE - Ernest Raymond Verne Jr., 71, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center of respiratory failure.

He had been a heavy-equipment mechanic, Korean War Air Force veteran and member of Corner Stone Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Ernest R. III of Nebo and Lee G. of Madisonville; two sisters, Dorene Cluck of Farmers Branch, Texas, and Nancy Kelin of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a brother, George W. of Hudson, Ill.; three grandchildren, Katie Helwig and Cory Lee and Jesse Lee Verne; nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, Pat Stewart.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Corner Stone Baptist Church in Madisonville, with burial in North Shore Garden of Memories in Waukegan, Ill.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the church. Harris Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Louis Sandefur

CALHOUN - Louis C. Sandefur, 69, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System of a heart attack.

He retired from AT&T; of St. Louis, was a Korean War Air Force veteran and member of the Calhoun Christian Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Jenkins of Canon City, Colo., and Dora Epley of Calhoun; a brother, George of Canon City; and nieces and nephews. His wife, Elsie Mae, died in 2000.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Muster Funeral Homes Calhoun Chapel, with burial in Calhoun cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calhoun Christian Church building fund.

Elizabeth Crafton

HENDERSON - Elizabeth E. Crafton, 96, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Methodist Hospital. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and the Anthoston Homemakers Club, past president of the Henderson County Homemakers Club and former secretary of the Henderson County Farm Bureau.

Surviving are a daughter, Corinne Crafton of Henderson; and a grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Fernwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church music department.

Charles Miles Jr.

HENDERSON - Charles Miles Jr., 80, of Mattoon, Ill., died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Douglas Care & Rehabilitation Center in Mattoon.

He retired as a millwright from the Carpenter's Local 347 and had owned and operated an auto repair service in Mattoon.

He was a World War II Army veteran and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles.

Surviving are his wife, Donna L. (Morris); two daughters, Joyce Lindsay and Jackie Miles, both of Mattoon; two sons, Jerry Wood of Louisville and Donald Wood of Albion, Ill.; a brother, Doris of Henderson; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Arrangements were handled by Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon, with military rites, burial is pending.

Ava Robertson

OWENSBORO - Ava Lee Robertson, 89, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Caldwell County Memorial Hospital in Princeton.

She had co-owned and was vice president of the Robertson Lumber Co. in Owensboro, Fordsville, Cloverport and in Cannelton, Ind.

She was a member of the Third Baptist Church, Fidilis Sunday school class, Mary Brown Missionary Circle and had worked in the church nursery.

Surviving are three daughters, Bobbie Lee Robertson of Owensboro, JoAnn McCaslin of Princeton and Jackie Napper of Philpot; and four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, Robert Louis, died in 1991.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Elmwood cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at the church.

William Sibley Sr.

MORGANFIELD - William Roosevelt Sibley Sr., 96, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Union County.

He was an Army veteran. He was a Mason and member of Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Earthene Sibley of Henderson, Jewel and Vivian Sibley, both of Morganfield, Lenora Smith of Atlanta and Sylvia Helmus of Dallas; four sons, Ronald of Dallas, Freeman of Morganfield, Archie of Dayton, Ohio, and Lemuel of Indianapolis; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

His wife, Martella, died in 2000 and a son, William Roosevelt Jr., died in 1983.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Friends may call 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Whitsell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
