Charles Dukes
MADISONVILLE — Charles E. Dukes, 71, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He retired in 1996 as a federal mine inspector and became a private consultant.
He was a licensed private pilot, Kentucky Colonel and a former Mason.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ruth Ellen (Toll); two daughters, Beverly Crick of Greenville and Dianne P’Pool Coleman of Madisonville; a son, David of Madisonville; a brother, Bennie of Montgomery, Ala.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Betty King
MARION — Betty Mae King, 56, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Crittenden County Convalescent Center of heart failure.
Surviving are three daughters, Vanessa, Trudy and Tammy Howard, all of Marion; a son, Tony Howard of Chicago; a sister, Melba Ekwaczneck of Chicago; a brother, Earl McCarty of Tennessee; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial in Mexico cemetery.
Ed Markwell
UTICA — Ed Markwell, 70, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System of cancer.
He worked out of the Midwest Operating Engineers Local 150 as a heavy equipment operator.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Loretta; a daughter, Bonnie Antelek of Chicago; a son, Shelby of Utica; a brother, Bill of Central City; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Private service are pending. Muster Funeral Homes Livermore Chapel is handling arrangements.
William Brake
HENDERSON — William T. Brake, 66, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at his home. The Henderson County coroner is determining the cause of death.
He was a member of the Watson Lane Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Opal N.; three daughters, Rebecca Tapp, Ginny A. Johnson and Billie Jean Gray, all of Morganfield; two sisters, Mary Rochwick of Powderly and Alma Jean Guy of Lenwood, Ill.; two brothers, John W. of Powderly and Jimmy R. of Chicago; a half brother, Harold Ewing of Wisconsin; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Benton Glunt Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery in Morganfield.

R.C. Cobb
HENDERSON — R.C. Cobb, 77, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at his home. The Henderson County coroner is determining the cause of death.
He retired from General Foods after more than 43 years.
He was a member, served as an usher and was active in the Men’s Club at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Association, a Kentucky Colonel, involved with the RCIA and a member of St. Vincent De Paul.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Alice; a daughter, Mary Alice Woodson of Henderson; a son, Tommy of Spottsville; a sister, Grethel Odom of Dixon; two brothers, Charlie of Sebree and Leroy of Henderson; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm. today, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.
Eldon Willett
PRIDE — Eldon D. Willett, 82, died Sunday at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.
He had been a farmer and a carpenter.
He was a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Laura Wilson of Eddyville; a son, Tom of Pride; a sister, Burnell Vaughn of Paducah; two brothers, Gayle of Pride and Mason of Evansville; and four grandchildren, Scott Thorton and Dailey, Allen and Lee Wilson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Thorton, in 1978.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, with burial in Pride-Bordley cemetery.

Vera Beauchamp
HENDERSON — Vera Lillian Dills Beauchamp, 94, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Red Banks Towers.
She had worked at the Betty Maid and Dixie Lou Frocks dress factories and during World War II had worked in the Chrysler Plant in Evansville.
She was a 60-year member and served as secretary of her Sunday school class at Audubon Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Zion Homemakers Club and a volunteer for the Henderson Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, James C. of Evansville and the Rev. Eugene of Selvin, Ind.; a sister, Pauline Cope of St. Louis; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coston J., in 1970, a daughter, Barbara B. Strahle, in 1986 and a son, Arthur Newton Beauchamp, in 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Audubon Baptist Church, with burial in Fernwood cemetery.

Bessie Romain
HENDERSON — Bessie Ann Romain, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree.
Surviving are two sons, Clifford E. of Corydon and Everett of Jackson, Mich.; a half sister, Elsie Westerman of Henderson; 10 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George E., in 1964, and two sons, William Alexander, in 1966, and Irby Thomas, in 1979.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tapp Funeral Home, with burial in Corydon cemetery.

Forest Babbs
STURGIS — Forest L. Babbs, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson.
He had been a farmer and was a World War II veteran.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Cindy Gray of Smith Mills; four stepsons, Harlan Belt of Marion, Wilborn Belt of Sturgis, Jerry Belt of Riverton, Ill., and Ricky Belt of San Diego; three sisters, Dorothy Moses of Baton Rouge, La., and Ethel Babbs and Jewell Miller, both of Sturgis; three brothers, Henry of Pacific, Mo., John of Gary, Ind., and Curtis of Henderson; 11 step grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery in Clay.

Jewell Downing
MADISONVILLE — Jewell “Baby” Downing, 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center.
He retired after 40 years with the Island Creek Fies Mine as a coal miner.
He was a member of the New Beginnings Church.
Surviving are his wife, Drunell; two daughters, Sue Bennett Gibson and Connie Downing, both of Madisonville; a son, Darrel of Madisonville; two brothers, Ralph of Boonville, Ind., and Lester Earl of Morganfield; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Lucy Prowse
MADISONVILLE — Lucy Prowse, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at her home.
She was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Martin of Madisonville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Jewell, died in 1986.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in New Salem cemetery in Nortonville.
