Anna Koetting, devoted life to family
Anna Koetting was always looking after a house-full of children - even after she had raised her own.
She baby-sat her grandchildren, nieces and nephews until she was in her 60s. Caring for family was her life's role, beginning from the time she was a young girl, third in a line of 12 brothers and sisters.
"She really loved children more than anything," said her son, James Koetting of Camp Springs. "My brother's kids and my kids, they all went to her after school and she took care of them until we came home from work."
Mrs. Koetting died at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. The Camp Springs resident was 83.
She was born and raised in Camp Springs, and she helped support her siblings by working on the family farm.
"She always said she was born a country girl," said daughter-in-law Martha Koetting. "Even with all her brothers and sisters, she said they never fought at home."
In 1939, she married Michael Koetting, with whom she grew up in Camp Springs. His house was on the same road as her family's and the two walked together to school every day.
They were married 50 years. Mr. Koetting died in 1989.
The couple had two children.
"The things she enjoyed were taking of children, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews - and cooking," Martha Koetting said.
She also was a member of St. Joseph Church in Camp Springs and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Camp Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
Sunday mornings at Mrs. Koetting's was a family tradition, Mr. Koetting said. After church, she would make a great country breakfast.
"To her, taking care of her family wasn't work," Martha Koetting said. "To her it was the most important thing she could do."
Other survivors include son Thomas Koetting of Camp Springs; a brother, Albert Leick of Camp Springs; sisters, Alma Ruschman and Gertrude Leick, both of Camp Springs, Dorothy Cryer of California, Christine Greis of Ft. Thomas, Coletta Bucher of Bellevue, Rose Dunckley and Lucille Seibert, both of Newport; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
