Sharon May-Johnson

Sharon May-Johnson, 47, of 3331 Meadowland Drive, Owensboro, met her heavenly Father on the evening of Oct. 30, 2004, after a valiant struggle following a sudden and unexpected medical event. She was surrounded by family, friends and colleagues. Sharon was born one of twin daughters to J.C. and Geneva Rowan May, in Daviess County on Jan. 2, 1957. Sharon was a graduate of Apollo High School class of 1975. She received her bachelor of arts degree at Western Kentucky University, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority and student government affairs. She received her juris doctorate degree from Salmon P. Chase School of Law.
Throughout her legal career, she was engaged in private practice and was a Jefferson County public defender. She was employed by the Daviess County Public School System at Deer Park Elementary School. She was an active member of the Democratic Party, Daviess County Bar Association and the Kentucky Bar Association. She was also a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Surviving are her two sons, who were the greatest joy of her life, Paul James "P.J." May-Johnson, 11, and Charles Edward May-Johnson, 9; her parents, James Charles and Geneva Ann May of Owensboro; and three sisters, Deborah Nunley and her husband, Marvin, of Owensboro, Susan Taylor-Drach and her husband, Keith, of Lexington and twin sister, Karon May Greenwell and her husband, Patrick, of Owensboro. Also important in Sharon's life was her cousin, Linda Gibson Henning of Crossville, Ill. In addition there are numerous adoring nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, with burial following in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Boy Scouts of America, Troop No. 24, c/o Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 E. 4th St., Owensboro, KY 42301.
Paul Franklin Parker

CLEATON - Paul Franklin Parker, 47, of Cleaton died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Georgetta Parker; three sons, Tyrone Ray Wilson, Terry Wilson and Kirk Wilson; a daughter, Jamesetta Nash; his mother, Georgia Parker Walton; his father, Paul F. Boyd; his stepfather, Allen Walton Sr.; four brothers, Jerry Boyd, David Boyd, Charles Boyd and Allen Walton; and four sisters, Earlene Suggs, Susie Gott, Debra Mitchell and Gina Bowman.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Cleaton. Burial: West End cemetery in Greenville. Visitation: From 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Bibbs' Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
William F. 'Billy' Powers Jr.

HAWESVILLE - William F. "Billy" Powers Jr., 59, of Hawesville died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at his home. He was born in Owensboro and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Hawesville. He was a 38-year employee of Commonwealth Aluminum, where he was receiving manager of south casting. He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Powers Sr.; grandparents, Effie and Joseph Gray and Frances and Albert Powers. He enjoyed farming, camping, boating and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Judy Estes Powers; five daughters, Lori A. and Keith Slaughter of Bowling Green, Helena "Lynn" F. and Mark Johnson of Lewisport, Virginia "Ginny" G. and Kevin McManaway, Jamie M. Powers and Shannon M. Powers, all of Hawesville; a son, William "Billy" W. and Meriah Powers of Fayetteville, N.C.; his mother, Nellie Gray Powers of Hawesville; 14 grandchildren, Ashley L. and Lauren M. Slaughter, Mallory C., Mackenzie R. and Macey A. Johnson, Emalee S., Bailey R. and Devyn M. Powers, Jonathan "Lucas" and Dylan M. McManaway, McKenna B. Powers and Kiera N. Duncan, Andrew F. and Adalyn M. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Immaculate Conception Church conducted by Father David Kennedy. Burial will be at Mount Calvary cemetery in Hawesville. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville. Prayers will be said at 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. William Adral Shaw

ROCKPORT, Ky. - William Adral Shaw, 90, of Greenville died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include a daughter, Kandi Brown; three brothers, Jerry Singleton, Donald Singleton and Bobby Singleton; and three sisters, Carrie Devine, Sylvia Bratcher and Wilda McCord.

Charles 'Red' Adams

RICHMOND - Charles "Red" Adams, 80, of Curtis Pike died suddenly Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at his home. He was born March 26, 1924, was a native of Madison County and son of the late John Will and Katherine Pigg Adams. He was a tobacco and cattle farmer in Madison County. He graduated from Madison High School and was a member of Kirksville Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Park Adams; two daughters, Betty Adams (Cliff) Worthington of Goldsboro, N.C., and Lura Adams Neukam (Roy) Locher of Philpot; a son, Charles Thomas Adams Jr. of Richmond; two granddaughters, Kara Worthington of Atlanta and Valerie Worthington of Richmond, Va.; and a grandson, Joshua Neukam of Philpot. He is also survived by a brother, William E. Adams of Richmond, and was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar L. Adams.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. EST at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Dr. J. Donald Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Alan Bundy, David Pigg, William L. Long, William D. Adams, Gordon Adams, Winifred Starnes, Carl Turner and Jud Patterson. Honorary bearers are Cecil Tussey, Bill Hagan and Stanley Wylie.
Troy C. Bybee

FRANKFORT - Services for Troy C. Bybee, 59, of Frankfort were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Good Shepherd Church on Leestown Road. He died Friday, Oct. 29, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens. A native of Harlan, he was a retired placement manager for the Department of Corrections and was a member of Good Shepherd Church.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Bybee; four daughters, Jenny Smith of Tennessee, Pam Stephenson of Arkansas, Belinda Zander of Mississippi and Melissa Bybee-Fields of Frankfort; a son, Stephen Bybee of Frankfort; a brother, David Bybee, M.D. of Louisville; and 13 grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Troy C. Bybee Sr. and Eunice Smith Bybee. Father Pat Stewart officiated. Casketbearers were the members of Knights of Columbus. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home on Versailles Road.
Marcus Golden Cockerell

RINEYVILLE - Marcus Golden Cockerell, 17, of Rineyville passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Rineyville. He was a native of Daviess County, a student at Central Hardin High School and attended Grace Heartland Church.
He is survived by his mother, Tonya and James Ashley of Rineyville; his father, David Cockerell of Owensboro; two brothers, Jacob Cockerell of Owensboro and Dakota Ashley of Rineyville; eight sisters, Naomi Ashley of Rineyville, Bethany Ashley, Tabitha Ashley and Jade Ashley, all of Leitchfield, Marissa Devins, Breanna Cockerell, Kaylea Cockerell and Destiny Cockerell, all of Owensboro; his maternal grandmother, Susan and Wayne Payne of Owensboro; his maternal grandfather, Jerald Morris of Owensboro; and his paternal grandmother, Aliene Cockerell of Caneyville.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, Nov. 2, at noon EST at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, with the Rev. David Waddle and Clark Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 1, from 2 to 8 p.m. and will continue Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

DENVER, Colo. - Mrs. Shirley Lambert Dodge, 82, of Denver died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in Denver. She was born June 27, 1922, to the late Ike and Frostie Graves Lambert in Daviess County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Dodge; three sons, Scotty, Sammy and Ronnie Dodge; and a daughter, Pam Dodge.
Survivors include a sister, Nancy Lambert Jones of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services were held in Denver. Glenn Funeral Home is helping with arrangements.

CENTERTOWN - Mikel R. Grider, 50, of Centertown died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at his home. He was a farmer and member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Veteto Grider; a son, John Mikel Grider; his parents, Joe and Bertha Allen Grider; a daughter, Katelyn Grider; and two brothers, Joe Brent Grider and Dennie Lee Grider.

Frances Rosa (Murphy) Head

Frances Rosa (Murphy) Head, 85, of Owensboro died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at her home. She was born July 30, 1919, in Daviess County to Joseph Thomas Murphy and Mary Augusta Bickwermert Murphy. She was a homemaker and member of Immaculate Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard F. Head, who died in 2002.
Survivors include a son, Herman and Maxine Head of Stanley; a daughter, Sister Julia Head, OSU, of Owensboro; four stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Murphy of Newman and Lawrence Murphy of Owensboro; three sisters, Mary Emma Blair of Owensboro, Mildred Allender of Evansville and Regina Lewis of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at noon Monday, Nov. 1, at Immaculate Catholic Church. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 5 p.m. today. Burial will be in St. Peters cemetery. The Rev. Timothy Sweeney will officiate. Linda Sue Pass

NEWBURGH, Ind. - Linda Sue Pass, 44, of Newburgh died at her home Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, from complications of breast cancer. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Elizabeth Ministry. Linda was also a member of the Daughters of the King Bible study. Linda had previously worked at the Evansville Courier and was marketing director for Action Pest Control. She loved decorating, planning children's activities, annual Easter egg hunts and enjoyed creative writing.
Linda is survived by her husband of 11 years, Kevin Pass of Newburgh; a son, Samuel Pass of Newburgh; a daughter, Sheridan Pass of Newburgh; a stepdaughter, Rachael Pass of Louisville; her parents, Tom and Ella Ludlam of Newburgh; two brothers, Tom Ludlam Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Columbus, Ohio, and Tim Ludlam and wife, Jennifer, of Indianapolis; two nephews, Holtz and Jack Ludlam; a niece, Kim Ludlam; and several aunts and uncles.
Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Joseph Ziliak, with entombment at Park Lawn Mausoleum at a later date. Friends may call today, Oct. 31, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel and Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Walther Cancer Institute for Breast Cancer Research.
