Edith Vanover

Edith Vanover, 71, of 4817 Farmview Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at her residence. She was born Sept. 27, 1933, to the late Harry and Myrtle Cornett Crawford in Harlan County. She had worked at many different jobs, but was most proud of being a brick mason. She attended The Fountain, helped serve food at the Daniel Pitino Shelter and loved playing bingo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Vanover, who died Nov. 10, 1985; and her son, Darrell Joseph Vanover, who died May 14, 1974.
Survivors include three sons, Carl and Bill Vanover, both of Owensboro and Terry Vanover of Crittenden; two daughters, Eldora Bryant of Owensboro and Pam Richards of Glencole; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; one brother, Chris Crawford of Tennessee; two sisters, Nell Roberts and Allie Baker, both of Walton; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at The Fountain Church, friends may call at the church at 1 p.m. Monday. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Underwood

Kenneth Underwood, 94, of 521 Eastwood Drive, Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at his home. He was born in Tyler County, W.Va., to the late Homer C. and Clealea Smith Underwood. He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ and was the retired owner and operator of the American Gliseran Co. which did oil well shooting. He loved the West, especially hunting and horseback riding in Colorado and Wyoming. He enjoyed fishing with his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madge Underwood on Aug. 16, 1996.
He is survived by his son and his wife, Sterling and Evelyn Underwood of Lanesville, Ind.; six stepgrandchildren; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with entombment following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Barbara Jean Hamilton

Barbara Hamilton, 56, of Camarillo, Calif., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in Camarillo of cancer.
Barbara was born July 23, 1948, in Owensboro to the late Margie and Logusta Poole. She was the youngest of four children. She was sister to Rosa Marsh of Owensboro, Betty (husband Bob) Chapman of Sorrento, Fla., James (wife Betty) Poole of Philpot and Roy Gene (wife Shirley) Poole of Owensboro. Barbara graduated from Owensboro High School in 1966.
She met and married
Dennis L. Hamilton of Owensboro on Nov. 10, 1966. The couple moved to Oxnard, Calif., in September 1967 and in 1974, relocated to Camarillo, where they raised their three daughters, Carlene DesJardin of Aurora, Colo., Sabrina Jayne Hamilton of Camarillo and Lacy J. Garrison (husband Joe) of Lakewood, Colo. Barbara befriended a young teenager, Sonia Garza of Camarillo, in 1980 and took her into her home as one of their own. Sonia and her son, Nick, remain a part of the Hamilton family. Barbara went to Oxnard Beauty College and passed the California State Bar for cosmetology in 1973. She was employed at the Luv Bug Hair Salon until she opened her own business, Shear Talent Hair and Nail Salon. Barbara owned and operated Shear Talent for 16 years. Prior to her diagnosis of bone cancer, she was employed at Auntie Sue's Salon in Camarillo for the past three years. Barbara was an experienced pilot.
She and Dennis flew their private airplane across the United States numerous times. She loved to tell of the many experiences of flying into various airfields and meeting people on their travels. Barbara loved to travel and play golf. She was active in the Las Posas Country Club Ladies League.
She played golf at all major courses in Southern California with her lady golfing friends. Barbara and her husband traveled to Scotland and Ireland on vacation to play the great courses of Europe. Those vacations were her favorite of all. Barbara was a great beautician. She had customers whom she obtained after graduating from Oxnard Beauty College and who followed her to each salon that she worked in until she retired in November 2003. Not only will she be remembered for her creative haircuts, styles and colors, but more for the relationships she held so dearly with her clients.
She will also be remembered for her charity work with the ladies of the Meadowlark League of Camarillo. She was kind, generous and always had a smile on her face. Everyone who knew her loved her. Regina Camilla Burch

Regina Camilla Burch, 80, of Whitesville died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Orvel Edge and Protase Burch.
She is survived by one daughter, Wanda Durbin of Cleveland, Tenn.; three sons, James Orvel Edge of Philpot, Cletus Burch of Derby, Ind., and Dennis Burch of Knottsville; one sister, Katie Howard of Whitesville; and three brothers, Buddy Boarman of Whitesville, Arthur (Dick) Boarman of Philpot and Donald Boarman of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today at Cecil Funeral Home and again after 11 a.m. Sunday. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Wanda Jane Simpson, 78, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at her home. She was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Owensboro. She was a real estate broker and a member of First Baptist Church St. Bethlehem and Montgomery County Republican Women. She was preceded in death by her father, John William Long; her mother, Stella Long; and her husband, Al Simpson.
Survivors include a son, Dan Ralston of Clarksville; a brother, William A. Long of Owensboro; sisters Margie Harreld of Owensboro and Gladys Loving of Delphi, Ind.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are at 11 a.m. today at Sango cemetery in Clarksville with the Rev. Jeff Burris officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home in Clarksville. Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church St. Bethlehem, Building Fund, 2232 Wilma Rudolph Blvd., Clarksville, TN 37040.

BROWDER - Richard Riley, 74, of Browder died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at his home. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Riley; a daughter, Wanda Riley; a stepdaughter, Marlene Taylor Riley; a foster daughter, Pat Davis; a brother, Inis Lee Riley Sr.; and three sisters, Stella Larson, Goldie Sutton and Rachel Sexton.

Velma P. Pruden

Velma P. Pruden, 77, of 6460 Highway 56, Owensboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born on April 11, 1927, in Magoffin County to the late Warren and Elizabeth (Bailey) Prater. She retired after 41 years of employment at Westinghouse Corp. She was a member of Third Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, the Rev. Norbitt Pruden; by two brothers, James Prater of Salyersville and Winfrey Prater of Newark, Ohio; and by two sisters, Venus Ingram of Shelby, Ohio, and Lillie Goetz of Owensboro.
Services are at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home.
