HAWESVILLE - Thomas E. Keown, 80, of Hawesville died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at Oakwood Health Care in Tell City, Ind. He was born in Ohio County on Nov. 28, 1924, to the late Fred and Rose Newton Keown. He was of the Baptist faith, a farmer and member of Boilermakers Local 40. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Bivins and Martha Keown; and three brothers, Les Keown, Cecil Keown and Leo Keown.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Vivian Keown; a daughter, Cheryl Wroe and her husband, Denny; a son, Tommy Keown and his wife, Debbie; five grandchildren, Dwayne Wroe, Renae Pierrard, Mike Keown, Greg Keown and Brad Keown; seven great-grandchildren, Mycah Wroe, Trevor Pierrard, Taylor Wroe, Shayla Pierrard, Preslee Keown, Kade Thomas Keown and Kendra Keown; a sister, Jewell Banks of Hawesville; and a brother, Ray Keown of Hawesville.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville with the Rev. Jim McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Hancock County Athletic Scholarship Fund in memory of Thomas E. Keown. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or can be taken to the Hancock Bank.

HARDINSBURG - Mabel Kiper Frank, 90, of Westview died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Hayes and Sue Pile; and a brother, James R. Kiper.

Lena Mae Crabtree

Lena Mae Crabtree, 87, of Owensboro died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born June 21, 1918, in Daviess County to the late Otto Sosh and Commie Crabtree Sosh. She was a homemaker and a member and pianist at Little Flock Holiness Church near Panther. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Crabtree, on Sept. 16, 1983; a daughter, Patsy Crabtree; a sister, Bessie Knight; and a brother, Clifford Waltrip.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Angela Sue and her husband, Larry McLaughlin, of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., and Rebecca Crabtree of Owensboro; two granddaughters, Lindsey Crabtree and Keitha Joy Mannifield; a grandson, Bryan McLaughlin; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Brackett of Calhoun and Bernice Belcher of Pleasant Ridge; a brother, Carlin "T Boy" Waltrip of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 2 p.m. today at Little Flock Holiness Church near Panther with the Rev. Anthony Broadley and Brother Mike Brown officiating. Burial will be in Little Flock Holiness Church cemetery near Panther. Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the church. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville is in charge of arrangements. Annie Frances Dennis, 56, of 2436 Strickland Drive, Owensboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at her home. She was born June 1, 1949, to the late Hunter Lee and Ida May McCombs Horton in Hart County. She was a member of the Baptist faith, a homemaker and enjoyed hunting ginseng, fishing and traveling. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Misty Gail Dennis, in 1978; and a brother-in-law, Jack Dennis, in 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Lee Dennis Jr. (Dee-Dee) and Terry Lee Dennis; two daughters, Geraldine Mayfield (Warren) and Melissa Ann Keown and fiancé Michael Martin, all of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren, Michael and Eric Maysey, Christopher Leach, Summer Dennis, Steven Riley, Audrey and Mariah Mayfield, Kaylyn and Larry Keown, Kelsie and Dylan Martin, Lila Renee White, Matthew Leach and Hunter Lee Sharp; her friend Jerry Fentress of Owensboro; and friend and father of the children, Roy Dennis Sr.; three brothers, Sam (Ginger), Alvin (Dorothy) and Robert Horton, all of Munfordville; two sisters, Dorothy (Billy) Cook of Searcy, Ark., and Mary Ann Horton of Munfordville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Glenn Bilbrey, Bubby and Jean Dennis and Kenneth Dennis, all of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Center Point cemetery in Munfordville. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Harvey 'Leon' Hargis

Harvey "Leon" Hargis, 69, of 219 Stockton Drive, Owensboro, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at his home. He was born June 12, 1936, in Henderson. He retired from the Air Force as a technical sergeant after 23 years. He was a life member of VFW and a Kentucky Colonel and a member of AMVETS John C. Pearl Post No. 119 and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He enjoyed NASCAR and was a UK basketball fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stokes Hargis and Mary Louise Green Hargis; and a brother, John Hargis.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Wanda Williams Hargis.
Private services are at 11 a.m. today at Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. There is no visitation. The Rev. John Meredith will officiate. Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Doris E. Ward

Doris E. Ward, 67, of Philpot passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on Dec. 22, 1937, in Ohio County. She retired from Cigar Factory and the Whitesville Pantry. She was a member of Deanfield Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, birdwatching, cooking, family get-togethers and wintering in Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Ward, in November 2000; her father and mother, Richard and Orbra Carmon; two sisters, Wilma Dean Morris and Laura Elizabeth; and a brother, George Wesley.
She is survived by two sons, Wendell (Sheila) Ward and Randall (Cindy) Ward, both of Philpot; two daughters, Naomi (Gary) Johnson and Karen (Curt) Bowlin, both of Owensboro; four brothers, Richard Junior Carmon of Owensboro, Fon and Donnie Carmon, both of Philpot, and Melvin Carmon of Utica; five sisters, Eva Mae Ratliff of Calhoun, Nina Howard of Stanley, Marcella Faye White of Louisville, Wanda Joe Jackson of Reynolds Station and Brenda Vogle of Hayesville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Valerie Thren, Christy Basham, Melanie Calloway, Scott Westerfield, Robert Bowlin, and Colt, Jessie, Wesley, Aaron, Blake and Dylan Ward; 11 great-grandchildren, Allison and Olivia Thren, Reagen, Isaac, Simon and Lilly Calloway, Maceala and Ethan Basham, Myka Rose and Darin Ward and Kimberly Westerfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice.

On Sept. 26, 2005, James Harold Keelin, 83, of Owensboro went home to heaven where his loved ones are waiting. He was born on Sept. 25, 1922, in Pueblo, Colo., to the late James Arvin and Birdie (Berry) Keelin. He was a retired construction worker for Barron Homes and a member of Southside Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed woodworking, singing and reading the Bible. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Tom Keelin.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, L. Pearl Keelin; two stepsons, Johnnie McNeely and wife Margaret of Owensboro, and Michael McNeely and wife Katrina of Wilmore; seven grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Taylor of Owensboro and Mildred Saunders and her husband, Bill, of Holmes Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Aubrey Michelle Clark, 22, of Owensboro died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at her home. She was born on Dec. 21, 1982, in Owensboro.
She is survived by her parents, Darriel and Marilyn (Goode) Clark of Whitesville; a brother, Ben Clark of Louisville; a sister, Erica Clark of Whitesville; her paternal grandfather, George Clark of Owensboro; her maternal grandmother, Donna Jo Price of Owensboro; and her maternal grandfather, William A. Goode and his wife, June Ann, of Browns Valley.

Orvil Glenn Muffett Sr.

LEWISPORT - Orvil Glenn Muffett Sr., 87, of Lewisport died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005 at the Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. Born Jan. 18, 1918, Mr. Muffett was the son of the late James Lewis and Sena Winkler Muffett. He was a farmer and member of the Mount Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Crystabelle Goodall Muffett, in 1991; a brother, Delbert Muffett; and a sister, Ruby Lambert Ward.
Mr. Muffett is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn Jr. and Joyce Muffett of Lewisport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sena and Charles Schaefer of Columbia and Cappie and Tony Howard of Spottsville; several grandchildren, including, Nikki, Daniel and Matthew Howard, Jason Muffett, and Courtney and Geoffrey Schaefer; a brother, Charles Kennard Muffett of Owensboro; and two sisters, Marcella Niceley of Owensboro and Rachel Estes of Lewisport.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Barbee Arnold "B.A." Mercer

The Rev. Barbee Arnold "B.A." Mercer, 80, of Greenville died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was born in Muhlenberg County on March 29, 1925, the son of Jesse Darrell Mercer and Lucy Audrey Roland. He lived on Duvall's Chapel Lane in Greenville and served in the Navy during World War II. He began preaching in March 1948, and he preached 5,800 sermons and 150 revivals. He was ordained in Union Association and pastored churches in both Union and Long Creek associations. His highlight of ministry was pastoring his home church, Duvall's Chapel, for 15 years. He made two missionary trips to Jamaica, ministering in revival and youth camps. He was a published songwriter and had approximately 15 songs recorded by top artists in gospel music, including the late Gov. Jimmie Davis of Louisiana. He was preceded in death by three brothers, R.T. Mercer, Alna Mercer and Benjamin Courtland Mercer; three sisters, June Jernigan, Lorene Thompson and Clarice Evitts; and a grandchild, Allen Carver.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Mercer of Greenville; two daughters, Carol Paulette (David) Carver of Greenville and Peggy (Larry) Evitts of Greenville; two grandsons, Marlin (Tracy) Evitts and Jody (Terri) Carver; one granddaughter, Shannon (Kelly) Richey; and four great-grandchildren, Carson Richey, Clay Richey, Tyler Carver and Paige Carver.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at 2 p.m. from Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church by the Rev. Arvil Oakley and assisted by Pastor Ken Miller, the Rev. Buck Rambo and the Rev. Harry Baldwin. Burial will be held in Old Bethel cemetery. Friends may call between 3 and 8 p.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
