DRAKESBORO - Dorothy Elizabeth Buchanan, 73, of Drakesboro died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Wayne Buchanan, Billy Ray Buchanan and David Neil Buchanan; two daughters, Barbara Price and Debbie Baynes; a stepson, William Henry Buchanan; and two brothers, Donald Wood and James Wood.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial: Wyatts Chapel cemetery in Beech Creek. Visitation: After 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Junious A. 'Junie' Newton

HAWESVILLE - Junious A. "Junie" Newton, 69, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at his home in Skillman. He was born April 25, 1935, near Weber to the late Raymond A. and Elizabeth Bolin Newton. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church and a retired farmer and millwright. He was an Army veteran and served in Korea and Germany. While stationed in Germany, he played on an Army baseball team that traveled around Europe playing different military teams.
Survivors include two sisters, Clara Jean Craig and Mary Douglas Spencer, both of Indianapolis; three brothers, L.T. Newton of Hawesville, Carlos Newton of Lewisport and Harold Wayne Newton of Hawesville; two stepdaughters, Sheila Poole and Barbara Mayfield, both of Tell City, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Serenity Hills in Hawesville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either New Life Baptist Church Building Fund or Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children.
Ernest Calvin 'Bub' Young

Ernest Calvin "Bub" Young, 76, of Owensboro died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home. Born Nov. 23, 1928, in Daviess County, he was the son of the late Rudy and Ilene Quinn Young. Mr. Young was a member of the Precious Blood Catholic Church and was retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. where he worked in the delivery department. He was also a farmer. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 756 and enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Atlanta Braves baseball, University of Kentucky basketball, the San Francisco 49'ers, his dog Scooter and was a horse player and handicapper. He was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Stephen Young in 1996; and a sister, Alice Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Regina "Peggy" Aud Young; four sons, Mark Young and Larry Young, both of Owensboro, Greg "Honda" Young of Poole and Mike and his wife Karen Young of Knottsville; two daughters, Cindy and her husband Kenny Bertram of Owensboro and Regina Hagan and her husband Gary of Stanley; 13 grandchildren; and five sisters, Eva Jarboe of Buffalo, Ind., Margaret Goins and Dorothy Thomas of Owensboro, Lou Muncy of Philpot and Mary Brooks of Fulton, N.Y.
Funeral services are at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, at Precious Blood Catholic Church with burial in St. Peter cemetery in Stanley. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday with prayers at 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice, St. Jude Hospital or Precious Blood Catholic Church.
Mary Helen Woodburn Vanover

SACRAMENTO - Mary Helen Woodburn Vanover, 92, of Box 260, Sacramento, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. She was born Nov. 30, 1912, in McLean County, was a homemaker and a member of Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Woodburn; and her second husband, Dilous Vanover.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Faye Woodburn Cabbage of Sacramento; grandchildren, Jerry (Peggy Newsom) Cabbage, Sharon Cabbage (Kevin) Miller and James (Melonie Moore) Cabbage; and great-grandchildren, Tiffany Miller Jernigan, Cindy Cabbage Darr, Kari Beth Cabbage, Adam Miller, Kellie Cabbage, Hollie Cabbage, Patrick Cabbage and Blake Cabbage.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Steve Delaschmit officiating and assisted by the Rev. John Butler. Burial will be in Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Joseph Harold 'Tom' Allen

MADISONVILLE - Joseph Harold "Tom" Allen, 78, of 1505 Island Ford Road, Madisonville, formerly of Weir, died Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2005, at 4:45 p.m. in the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 29. 1926, in Weir, the son of Carl Edward Allen and Hazel Marie Crick Allen. He was a retired farmer and member of Cave Springs Baptist Church in Greenville. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Eddie Allen, in 1966; a daughter, Judy Darlene Allen, in 1966; and a grandson, James Allen.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Verda Powell Allen of Madisonville; a son, Mark "Lee" Allen of Madisonville; three grandchildren, Andrew Louis Allen, Emily Marie Allen and Belinda Allen; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Verna Mae Dukes and Betty Lee, both of Greenville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, April 26, at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville, by Dr. Thomas Branson. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery in Greenville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, April 25, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

SOUTH CARROLLTON - Bobby J. Rager, 67, of South Carrollton died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at his home. He worked in maintenance at Calhoun Hospital.
Survivors include five sisters, Nancy Eply, Edna Heady, Wanda Revelett, Barbara Frakes and Mary Jane Geary.

Rose Bailey Slack

Rose Bailey Slack, 94, of Owensboro died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born near Thruston on Jan. 14, 1911, attended Owensboro public schools and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1933 when it was located in Winchester.
Following graduation Mrs. Slack taught elementary school and retired from Owensboro Independent School System in 1972 after 34 years of service. She was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, Owensboro Retired Teacher's Association, Kentucky Teacher's Association and the National Education Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Slack in 1965; her parents, George Bailey and Verda Duke Bailey; and two brothers, George B. Bailey Jr. and Lee C. Truman.
She is survived by a niece, Susan R. Bailey of Atlanta; and a nephew, Lee Truman Jr. of Bowling Green.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, at Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Glenn Funeral Home is handling arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

HUDSON - Ellen Piercy, 77, of Hudson died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sons, William Piercy, Robert Piercy, Garland Piercy and Fred Piercy; a daughter, Mildred Dennison; and three sisters, Alene Nottingham, Annie Carman and Monnie Gootee.

Kathleen M. Gaddis

Kathleen M. Gaddis, 82, formerly of 521 Jeff Place, Owensboro, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro. She was born on Aug. 10, 1922, in West Hartlepool Burham, England, to the late John George and Mary Alice (Wilson) Egglestone. She retired from General Electric Co. with 34 years of service and was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church. She served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. She loved to read. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Gaddis, on June 22, 1995.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David J. and Frances Gaddis of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Jody (Trish) Gaddis and Sherry (Keith) Krampe, both of Owensboro; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Allison and Natalie Krampe and Dylan Gaddis; a sister, Winnie Foley of England; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2005, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and after 9 a.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Dallas Allen Toomey

Dallas Allen Toomey, 89, of Owensboro was born May 31, 1915, in Penrod and died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System at 2:20 p.m. He was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Owensboro. He was a 42-year member of the Travelers Protective Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Annie Toomey of Penrod; two brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Nell Gaston Toomey, whom he married
in 1948; a son, Lanny David Toomey of Owensboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynette Dawn (Toomey) and Jeff Johnson of Owensboro; two brothers, Delbert Toomey of Owensboro and Wilbur Toomey of Greenville; and a sister, Clara Davis of Owensboro.
He was a decorated World War II U.S. Army veteran, who had served in Normandy, Nothern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe with the 3596th QM Truck Company. He hauled supplies, ammunition, rations and personnel over improvised roads under combat conditions and blackouts. He received numerous decorations including the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal World War II. He was a former business partner in Western Plating Co. in Owensboro and a former partner, with his son Lanny, in Auto Paint and Supply Co. Inc. He enjoyed various hobbies including bowling, watching baseball games and traveling with his family.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday, April 25, at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro and from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday there will be visitation and burial at Hortons Chapel Church of Christ cemetery in Muhlenberg County.

GREENVILLE - Retha Mae Coombs, 84, of 246 N. Cherry St., Greenville, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at 10:41 p.m. at home. She was born May 10, 1920, in Muhlenberg County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Missionary Baptist Prospect.
Survivors include a son, Freddie Wayne (Diane) Coombs of Central City; two daughters, Carole Sue (Donald) Rice of Greenville and Ima Jewell Sadler of Greenville; grandchildren, Timothy O. Rice, Dwight Alan (Robin) Rice, Kimberly J. (Michael) Slinker, Vanessa S. (Randall) Rose, Tracey L. (Brent) Burris, Shannon (Becky) Coombs and Keri Rogers; great-grandchildren, Michael and Nathan Rice, Leslye, Derek and Holly Rice, Kala Slinker, Eric Rose, Kelsey and Will Burris, Danielle and Taylor Rogers and Conner and Emma Coombs; and brothers and sisters, Eual Rice of Greenville, Roy Rice Jr. of Greenville, Edwin "Shorty" Rice of Greenville, Louise Blakeman of Dayton, Ohio, and Joyce Ann Doolin of Dayton.
